How about a program installing all its files in a single directory and registering on a central database which shared libraries it contains, when another program is installed it checks the database to see if there's already an app with the library it needs and creates a hard link to that file.
That way, you can remove the directory where the app is installed, effectively removing all it's files, with no garbage lying around, and since the other app had a hard link to the library, it doesn't lose it.
I know this could work on linux, not sure if there are hard links on windows.
I'd love something like this, so you can copy your software freely and you know it'll work on another computer.. just copy the directory (which could itself have a default execute action instead of opening the directory an listing the files in it, it would run it's default executable file). you'd install my apps on a flash drive and I'll have them ready to run wherever you go, configuration should also be stored in the same directory.

If the cats don't succeed eating them, they will eventually grow bored of the moice and stop paying attention to them (that's how cats are) and you'll end up with a pair of super mice roaming around your house.:)
I was unimpressed by those sites, I find http://computadora.de/ interesting, even though it is written in flash and not javascript, it is more of a remote desktop, it has a some useful applications, all of them use the website storage.
It's in spanish, I don't know if there are similar sites in english.
The thing is, that when a story is brought up and doesn't explain throughly the subject, we get lots of post saying "at least it would be nice if you introduced the subject for us who don't know"
I, personally, knew what AJAX is but and I'm not offended by the verbosity of the information, it doesn't hurt anybody to actually provide people with information on the story text.
No one would ever bother using lynx if they were trying to use a non-dominant browser, the obvious choice is telnet on port 80, I render html in my head, yeah!
Windows wasn't an operating system 20 years ago, it was only a DOSShell, it turned into an operating system in 1995 (not really an operating system but it got bigger, but still a layer on top of DOS)
There are MSN messenger patches available to do just that, run two (or more) MSN messengers at the same time with different accounts, it's called the polygamy patch.
Well, I havent played the game, but I have read it has a multiplayer mode, in which up to four players can play together and control one or two characters (maybe more?), it doesnt have a multiplayer campaign, but instead the multiplayer mode is played inside the single player world, so they could focus on developing a huge world instead of two separate worlds.
In the single player mode, you can play up to 6 characters, but that's not available until you finish the game twice (first run, you can only have 4)
The other day I was thinking about a dynamic programable password, instead of a plain static password, so you can create a password that would change everyday based on the output of some tasks, for example, you could create a password using the current time, date, temperature, number of apps open, a boolean comparison (whether or not some app is currently running) or stuff like that, people would have to crack the pattern cause even if they sniffed your password, the second they try it, it wouldnt match.
Underwood, 39, said he will offer animal hunting as soon as he gets a fast Internet connection to his remote ranch that will enable hunters to aim the rifle quickly at passing animals.
I can imagine it now... accounting for tirgger lag when you're hunting online. This would probably just plain suck on 56K.
You posted the same thing twice, i think slashdotters need a third one.
Would somebody give me a clue about solving the level 5 unknown quest of arcanum.co.nz?
It's about making the script think you're really from new zealand, spoofing headers, using proxies and such. I haven't been able to solve that one, i already got all the other 3 from the level 5.
I learned a lot about encryption in that website, they used the ceasear cypher, xor encryption, and some other methods I didnt know back then. It was fun.
Is some of you from new zealand? I could also use a hand from somebody who has a.nz hostname.:)
I dont know a lot about search engines, but maybe somebody else can update my comment.
Google uses an advanced indexing algorith based on words and coordinates, some hashes here and around and you get the relevant results, they could add a few characters to their valid-word-chars list, but trying to get something more exact would need a new algorithm.
You should try reading a technical document about search algorithms, just for kicks:)
there will always be conflict about those... I understand them both and I'm ok with them.. some people want you to use THEIR plural, I don't really care.:)

It is funny to think he might actually be serious :)
I meant "then it's not unstoppable" obviously
Have to remember previewing first.
if you stop it, then it's not stoppable, is it?
:)
otherwise, you would need to make it stoppable first.
