"Oh Lord, forgive the errata"
Let me deconstruct this post.
First of all, ok you got me, I meant month.
Gee, I FUCKED UP.
Will not be the first time, will not be the last.
There you have it, in print no less, or in type, whatever you want to call it,
would not want to be wrong whilst correcting myself.
Second, since when is real life not interesting to/.ers??
Third, lighten up, you can't live life being serious all the time.
On that same token, I am sick of all these/.ers correcting people when the poster obviously meant his or her post to be taken in jest, this has happened to me thrice in as many days .
First Lynne Thigpen, now Adam Osbourne. But seriously, I, and I am sure many other slashdotters would love to hear stories from some of the "old-timers" around here about their experiences working with Mr. Osbourne. Hopefully nobody told him about the afterlife, would probably make life less worth living.
Well, what I am trying to say is when users find out that they cant play that DVD or CD they just bought on their PC, they will not stand for it. You can take away peoples rights, you can suspend constitutional protections, but you dare not mess with a persons mind-numbing entertainment, or his or her E-Mail for that matter. Once people notice control over the computer they just paid serious coin for going out the Window, so to speak, they wil get seriously pissed off. DRM is bad, bad bad bad bad bad, just so we do not misunderstand each other, but, i believe that it will: A) Never see the light of day B) Will hit, and the backlash will be so huge that it is abandoned. C) Will hit the market, and our economy being how it is, people will switch to something better, like Mac OS X or Linux.
Most people are not sheep, they just need a little education, using small words. I have found this in my experience. users are not as stupid as you or i may think they are, they just need a little guidance. Part of our "jobs" as geeks is to try to bring others into the fold, it may just start out by explaining how E-Mail works, or what really happens when you defrag a hdd. You may just whet someones appetite for learning something new. A certain amount of social skills are needed, I have never been in a computer environment devoid of people, never. It just does not happen. I respect your opinion, hell, it may just be the correct one, but it would seem to defeat conventional logic, even CNN picks up on tech stories, if they were to run one story about this, the shit-storm would be so huge, that MS would be lucky not to get lynched, but of course no news outlet would run a story on this, because they are just the people who have the most to "gain" from being in bed with MS on this one. How can the proverbial little guy, without Congress in his pocket, combat such evil? I have no idea.
ok, this is one retailer, one that, quite frankly, not too many people use for their software needs, if this "drm" "secure computing" bullshit continues, which i very very seriously doubt it will, many people will make the switch to mac os, or linux, i know i will if it comes down to it. im already very high on mac osx, hell one of my friends has made the switch and is amazed how everything just "works", amazing isnt it? make a product that works, and people will like it.
to save "taxpayer" dollars, why dont they just instead, pull down the stickers upon their discovery, im sure most of these "businessmen" are using prepaid, hence disposable cell-phones and are not stupid enough to turn themselves in. the chinese government really is kooky. why do they not just put these cell phone numbers into "411", or post them on internet forums, i think that would get the point across better than any annoyance factor the police may be able to bring upon them.:)
i went to a local gamestop and they said they were allocated 8. let me repeat that. 8. which, of course were all pre ordered, which seems to be the trend these days, unless you pre-order, take the release date and add a month. but anyways, they only got 8, then next week 8 more, pre ordered, while the wal marts of the world get more than they would ever need to sell to the slack-jawed yokels who just know their kid wants "yew gee owe". i would love to support the moms and pops, but unfortunately, they cant support my habit sometimes. my point is, wait, i dont have one. the moral of the story is, it appears that wal mart and the ilk are using their buying power to shaft yet another segment of our great free-market economy, the video game store. they have killed off pretty much any other kind of store there is. why stop there?
everyone makes fun of my GBA because it is pink, they call it "gay". that is why i will get the purple GBA SP. no one wants to borrow it, so more advance wars and castlevania for me. i can not wait to get my hands on one, but do not want to go to wal-mart. you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.(/geeky star wars reference)
if bioware had launched this straight out of the box, the game would have sold huge, due to the largely untapped "linux dork" gamer market, i personally know of people (okay, just one) who would have bought the game if it had a linux client in the box, hell even a mac client. it is still a big deal, but not a monumentous deal, but on the other hand, if the client is not being released until now, maybe it completely sucked ass when the game was released and is just now playable. who knows, all that matters is you can play nwn in linux now, yay.
okay, reading the salon article, it is basically a disagreement over, what else, money. if the fifth season is in the can, what is stopping some other enterprising network from snapping it up? with all the publicity, it would be a boon. every official reason has been debunked by whom? it is sad that the whole thing is a result of corporate greed and money. would not be the first time, and im sure will not be the last.
maybe there are other reasons behind the cancellation we do not know about, maybe cast wants more money, creative team wants to move on to other projects, actors want to move on. who knows, i do not. i seriously doubt that a niche station that finds a hit such as sci fi has with farscape would just cancel it for no good reason, it would seem like the most retarded thing since, well ever.
this all reminds me of a few years ago, when a show called "brookyln bridge", got cancelled, then everyone started bitching for it to be put back on the air, then they did put it back on the air, then no one watched it again, like before, and it got cancelled, again. the studios and stations know that this is the most likely scenario already, and as such i am sure they are ready to move on to the "next big thing", unfortunately. i watched a few episodes of the show, it is pretty cool, but I am not going to lose sleep over the fact that the show got cancelled. chalk it up to "the man trying to keep you down" or something. meanwhile, you can still watch reruns.
A. Jobs are really hard to come by these days, so I would just bite the bullet and let them do it. B. If you sign paperwork saying you will do it, and you don't you have no foot to stand on. C. If it is a company-wide policy that does not discriminate, and there is no law against it, then you can cry "right to privacy!" from the unemployment line, or better yet, I'll take the job. D. Companies are evil, life sucks, get used to it.
Sorry to get a little "Jerry Seinfeld", but, what is the deal with all these so-called pundits making completely retarded assertions. Yet the ploy works, again and again, as shown in the posting of articles and replies to the articles, jesus christ, my brain wants to explode reading some of this drivel, such as, "Linux is too much like Windows" where is this article published like Dumbass Digest or something? As someone who has used both Windows and Linux, I can tell you, Linux is almost nothing like windows, what, both run on hardware, wow, ooh big similarity, STFU. Next week I am going to submit an article to/. entitled "How a ball of yarn is too similar to a bowl of Campbell's reduced sodium tomato soup" God damnit, like the article a few months ago about how software development is dead, shut up no it isn't is how my summation of the article would read, and that would be even on a slow news day. If my post sounds ranty and disconnected, forgive me, it is like four in the morning. But my position remains the same.
but arent most distros pretty much lightweight in the first place, its is mostly during the install that you can choose whether or not to install bloat
dude i hate to be a fucker but you misspelled "there", you must have been tired, it is not the usefullness that counts, its the fucking "cool" factor, like running doom on a pda, why you ask? because you can, quake in java, why? just cuz..
If you did, then I would not be ordering you RAM online, would I?

that too, would be an excellent idea, slashdotting phones, i think that this is probably not too far off.

but the question remains, how fast can you download pr0n??
and one of my friends was just bitching about the lack of tabbed browsing in safari, oh well guess he is going to have to use Camino (tm) then.
everyone makes fun of my GBA because it is pink, they call it "gay". that is why i will get the purple GBA SP. no one wants to borrow it, so more advance wars and castlevania for me. i can not wait to get my hands on one, but do not want to go to wal-mart. you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.(/geeky star wars reference)

its called prepaid cellular, no one knows who you are, and if you value your privacy, its the only way to go.
my previous post was brought to you by the letters "J" and "K"
cool, now you can run xeyes in win2k.
