We should also sue the electric company, for without their power they couldnt play the game. And oh yea, lets not leave out the TV maufacturer. Maybe we should even sue the person we bought the house from, since this is where they played the game.
Seriously, give me a break. How about parents stop blaming everyone but THEMSELVES for their kids actions.
When we, the technologicaly elite, make our OWN network, based on encrypted tunnels on the existing infrastructure - then we can choose what level of certification is required to interact with peers.
Ok, all the other comments have well covered the debate of is it stealing, is it not, etc etc.
But, does this violate your AUP? I don't know many isp's who say you can't run pirated software on your systems. So, since the AUP is not violated, basically this company is spamming the abuse channels.
Can this thing just end already? When is the US Government, or a federal judge/court system actually going to step in? This just keeps getting more and more rediculous.
Yes, but the list of files is typically available publically to anyone on the channel in which you are serving. Doesnt take much after that to find out who you are.
You really have no idea what you are talking about. IRC is about as simple as it gets.First off, mIRC is simply *one* irc client, and has no bearing on this topic at all. and the IRC "protocol" is simply plain text. Unfortunatley, for those who use IRC for such things, it's just as easy, if not easier to track such activities on IRC
Spam would stop if nobody bought anything from spammers. SOMEBODY out there must be buying the generic viagra and paying for memberships at hoochiemamma's webcam site. Likely it's nobody that reads or at least is an active participant in sites like this, but THAT's the message that needs to get out. "Don't want spam? Don't buy any of these things". Spammers need money to send spam email. If we don't buy their product they either go out of business or learn that they are losing money by sending spam.
Now, I want and can think of many uses for some X-10 hardware - But I won't buy it because of spam. I have a dog that takes heartworm prevention pills - but i'll pay the extra price to get it from the vet instead of getting from the cheaper online dealer, who, spammed me.
The message needs to get out: "If you spam me, I won't buy your product, even if I do want it."
If they want to act like babies - ok fine. More business for Cable providers and this leaves plenty of room for development of power line and other forms of broadband
And when someone sends a "restricted" email to me from outlook 2k3, and I open it in Mozilla Mail, or another non-MS mail client either > It won't open, or The restrictions are gone. Either way - This limits the sender to sending the message only to people with Outlook 2k3 - Seems like MS is up to it's same ole tricks - forcing users to use it's software.
Make sure to write your representatives. It's the only recourse we have left in this 'democracy' that has gone afoul - The only reason it has gone afoul is that WE (American Citizens, not slashdotters) have allowed it to but NOT writing our representatives. Their title 'REPRESENTative' should say it all. Their SOLE purpose is to represent YOUR opinion to the people that make the laws that govern how our lives are lived. If you don't write - LAWS WON'T CHANGE. The EFF has made this task incredibally easy - They've even written a nice letter and will auto-lookup your representative based on your address. Get your opinion out there. It's our only chance to change the laws of the land we live in.
I'll give you the link again in case you missed it the first time.
The problem with your logic here though is that it's not slander if it's a true statement. From what the article says all the feedback leaver said was that the magazines arrived late and in wrose condition then advertised. Arriving late could have been due to a bunch of circumstances and the condition of them is likely open to the interpretation of buyer and seller.
"alleging in the online forum that the magazines he bought had arrived late and in a worse condition than advertised"
It's not like he said anything all that bad - They probably did arrive late, which could be blamed on the shipping company or any other factor, And the part about them being in worse condition then advertised was also probably true, but that is open to interpretation.
Why do people have to be such whining little babies these days? so someone left you bad feedback, which, was more then likely true. EBay gives you a chance to publicly reply to feedback - simply reply there stating your own side of the story and leave it at that. If a user has to worry about being dragged into court for leaving negative feedback, then nobody is going to leave feedback and the system is going to be ruined.
And where does he get these figures?
"In his lawsuit, Grace demands $2.5 million in punitive damages from eBay and $100,000 from Neeley." I'd like to see him prove that one bad feedback is going to cost him that much.
A vehicle that can move you along at about 15 mph without making you sweat while in a suit and tie...or whetever work clothing you are wearing.
So what do you do with this thing when you get to work? Are they going to have a parking lot for them? Ride it into the office? Will the HR department enforce a 2mph speed limit in the hallway? Will part of your pay be the electricity to recharge your unit on the company electric circuit?
(imagine your favorite HR person standing in the hall of your office with a radar gun.) ha.

This one hits it on the head. In our line of work, many of us may have to crawl around on a server room floor, under desks, etc. If you sit at your desk all day and there is no chance you are going to get up from it, then maybe a suit would be appropriate, but, if they want me to crawl around on the ground in a nice suit, they better be paying me enough to afford buying a new suit every week.
I hope they remember all the small people that were involved in the programming of this thing from the beginning. Fanning has been the only name really associated with Napster, but there weere many people involved in getting this thing going back in the early days. Even something as simple as a reference to their IRC nick would be nice
"they are completely voluntary and cannot be used to scan without a person's knowledge"..So is the brethalyzer test, but go ahead and try to NOT take one.
Wow. This is not some 'oh yea this looks like that game pitfall from the 80s' - no, this is the REAL pitfall that we (at least the ones old enough to remember) played way back when. This is so good.
"The FBI is now telling companies that, if they see the chalk marks outside their offices, they should check the security of wireless networks and ensure they remain closed to outsiders. "
Hey, how about you do this even if you DONT see chalk marks?
If this thing weighs only 11 lbs, including fuel, I'd venture to say it only has 1 to 1.5 gallons of fuel in it, MAX. Now, I don't know much about model aviation and how efficient their engines are, but even with the very light weight, thats quite a distance for that amount of fuel..

Would you mind it if a bunch of slashdoters came over and slashdoted your private property?
I can just imagine the 4 guys peeing on your lawn, in the shape of the letters "FP"

We have something similar in Connecticut
This is a Java applet that shows average speed of vehicles in the Hartford area.

It's hard to argue with this.. it does seem to be pretty blatant... hopefully they can come to an agreement...
