At my school, there is only CS. It is about the same as your CST. I am one year out of college and now am an IT Manager for a small company. How do I get by with just mathematical theories? (unfortunately, everyone thinks computer science means you know everything about computers) I learned everything i use on a daily basis (other than algorithms, etc) from personal projects, internships, low paid on campus jobs, etc. I knew the theroy alone wouldnt get me by, so i got a little extra knowledge. certainly didnt hurt
I've always wondered this myself. Now, I have a degree in CS, but I'm still concerned about my writing. People judge you by the way you speak and write. It kind of sucks, but I like to at least pretend I learned something in college.
Granted, its not the cohesive expirence of xbox live, and only system link games are supported, but services like xlink kai can be fun in a pinch. I played forza motorsport on xlink this weekend, and while getting 7 other drivers to race against in the class i wanted too a little bit, once we got together, it was a blast. 8 players, battling head to head on nurburg ring, that was great (too bad my integra didnt have enough ponies to win it down the last straightaway, but still was a refreshing expirence, not like YAFPS 2008)
well, lukily for you, san andreas is only about a month away for the ol xbox, and has more features (and purdy pictures) than the ps2 version. I have a ps2 ( a second hand one that needs some work, however) but im waiting for it to hit the xbox. Why? i prefer the controller. Thats basically it. (oh, and my ps2 doesnt, um, work)
obivously, everyone likes happy endings, but having voldemort get away or kill harry in the end would be a twist (almost) nobody would expect... I kinda like it:)
now theres the most insightful comment i think ive ever seen from an AC. Thank you, kind AC. I think ill specifically do that next system i load up:) didnt even think aboug cygwin
Agreed on that point. There are many things wrong with the "Booth babe" culture surrounding e3: treating women as objects, drawing attention away from games (maybe on purpose), as well as the general downward spiral the games industry (even more so on consoles) is currently undertaking. I dunno, maybe its time a small house came out with a less powerful system that had nothing but GREAT games on it, and gaming could be geeky again. Br sigh, i guess ill be getting more game information from mtv than current gaming websites soon.
Agreed. I am not a fan developing in Java myself, but appreciate the technology, being both a windows (work) and linux (home) user. People seem to complain about a language that makes alot of previously hard things easy.
I have lots of issues with java myself (antiquated JVMs on old platforms) and the speed of a heavy gui app written in java, however, there are tons of GREAT oss projects written in java. And i think thats great.
To me, the fact that sun paid for OO.o seems irrelevant. To me its just another OSS project that uses java. So what?
Ive had one WD drive go dead on me. The PC it was in was almost always on, got shut off overnight, next day afterwork, never started up again. Weird, i know. To be fair the drive was 3+ years old, and i put it through ALOT in that time. 3 different machines, many os installs, etc. I still have an old 2.5ish gb WD drive from circa 1996-7 that still works great. Its in an old machine, running routing software/firewall, but it still works well.
good point. Ive never been a radhat fan (im more of a debian man. I like my software like i like my women. Well aged. Heh)
I had forgotten about the centos thing. End result of this: No more purchases from tigerdirect (dont know if one bag of rj45 clips is going to hurt them that badly, but i would be curious to see their sales after this mess)
While im sure PR is some of this, I kinda see it as showing how completely rediculous this whole thing is. Licencing naming rights from a canadian football team? Sounds about as reasonable as suing apple over such a common word...
I wouldnt be a member of that gym for much longer (or, any gym, really). I wonder if i can copywright my fingerprints, and then charge royalties for anyone who requires a print? that would be sweeet.
Too bad all the console owners have mod points today and I dont. I personally own an xbox, but only play FPSs on the PC (have for years and years). You said everything ive been saying about halo2 et all. WTF is the big deal?! At the very worst, my argument is this:
UT2k4 does almost everything halo2 does, only with more vehicles, more players, more guns, more everyhing (hell, even more story in single player... BURRRN).
Im not a "pc gamer" or "console gamer", i play good games regardless of the system. Im not not intrigued by halo2. It seems derivitive too me.
and being a pc gamer, im used to like 102382387 maps avaiable to play. Keeps it interesting.
how much effort does it take you to keep your system clean/crash free? Im in the same boat at work (write windows apps, kind of have to run windows for that). I have linux/windows at home. For me, its just "something new" that i want to try. Hopefully i can save 500 bones in the next few months.
Not sure. There was a lot more companies around selling "cheap" domains when i registered mine back in 02, since then ive rarely touched their website (except to get the link to my mysql database manager). Their site seemed less cluttered back in the day. In my expirence, ive never said i am an IT manager, i have a degree in CS, anything that would set me off as non-techie to their customer support people. Ive never had them try to push anything on me. But then again, this is just one piece of evidence, theres millions of others im sure.
ill be sure to check out powweb out in the near future. If they support a larger feature set than godaddy, and good customer support i might send referrals that way. Thanks for the link.
As i posted elsewhere, my expirence with godaddy and their customer suppor was excellent. Im glad that i (finally) found a registrar and hosting company that doesnt, um, suck. Godaddy has my buisness, and i continue to refer friends who need cheap domain registration and hosting to them. Hey, a good company who treats their customers right deserves it.
They hook you with registering the domain, and have a bunch of other services you can get too (hosting, email, ecommerce, et al).
I personally have my domain registered through them and use one of their hosting plans, because im too cheap to pay for colo/dedicated plans.
godaddy has been good to me so far, their customer support spoke english(!) and was very helpful the few times ive had to call up (mostly about billing because im a deadbeat)
Thanks Winky, I have been casually searching for that (probably not hard enough) since the bowl. I have been a godaddy customer for 3 years now, love their service. have their cheapest hosting plan, and it works well for me, and that ad made me sure that godaddy was the type of company I want to do buisness with:)
Google exists to make money, like any other company. Simple as that, really.

Wish i had some mod points to make that +1 insightful

I know. I wish i had wget on my windows machines so i could get it on that first boot without using ie :)
Sadly, this is true. Even old AIW cards (like my original AIW Pro) have dodgy support, at best, and quite obivously, no mythTv support :(
for me, getting a nice hauppage is always 2 paychecks out.
seconded. And agree with the gp. however, i make my time back as a smoker :)

mine took my favorite deftones shirt. Its ok, its from 98 and doesnt quite fit this geek anymore.
but it was a cool shirt though.

Id say google already has that "coolness". Its like fight club, its on the tips of everybodys tongues, all they need to do is give it a name.
