  1. Re:No Profits / Flamebait on Stan Lee Sues Marvel Comics · · Score: 1
How could the idea for Coming to America be "stolen?" It's based on the story of Buddah which is most certainly public domain..

  2. Re:is this possible with the white iBook? on TiBook Wi-Fi Range Hack: New Card · · Score: 1

Thank you both for the prompt answers. I figured as much. Woe to those who trim prices on big purchases with regret.

  3. is this possible with the white iBook? on TiBook Wi-Fi Range Hack: New Card · · Score: 1
I've wanted to get a wireless card for my white iBook for awhile, but find the $99 Airport cards a bit steep. Is it possible to install any other manufacturer's cards internally within the iBook, as described in this TiBook-related article? I'm not yet familar with the innards of my iBook, so am unsure if it is a standard slot, or Apple-hardware only.

  4. Re:the music of the rings on New Trailer For The Two Towers · · Score: 1

and nor was it said that the soundtrack was James Horner. I did liken it to that crap though.

  5. the music of the rings on New Trailer For The Two Towers · · Score: 1

Now, if only the score /was/ composed by the Kronos Quartet.. or anyone besides the composer of the first movie. If I had one movie I'd nominate for worst musical score last year, it would have been the Lord of the Rings. Typical, manipulative quasi-classical James Horner crap.

What? The audience is to feel panic and relief within a few frames? Let's swell the strings, let everybody know that things are going to be ok.

Peter Jackson should have known better. He's used the best in the past (Danny Elfman, The Frighteners), and I can't understand why he'd settle for such blandness in the present.

Speaking universal truths can be the path of the weak minded. No truth is universal, including the truth that no truth is universal. Mileage will vary, and you my friend might be wrong.

  7. Re:"The Wizard" (1989) with Fred Savage on Linux Kernel Module For Nintendo Powerglove · · Score: 1
Why don't they make heartwarming movies about exploiting autistic savants anymore? The Wizard, Rain Man... is that the end of the genre?

I hear Adam Sandler is still making movies, if you'll count that.

Don't know of any exact similar programs, but there's always DosEMU, which runs under linux and could quite possibly run IT.

  9. goooooood news. on Reborn 1.0 And The State of Linux Audio · · Score: 1
This is probably the best linux news I've read in a long, long time. About time we started having some neat audio toys for the musicians out there. Now what we need is a programmable midi-capable sample-based VSTi-compatible song organizer. (FreeFruit?)

  10. possibilities of the form on IMAX Develops Movie Transfer Technology · · Score: 1
What I'd like to see is more usage of the extreme possibilities available in experimental film. Very rarely do we see the total psychedelic freak out that the medium begs for. Music composed for surround systems that operate in ways to manipulate brain chemistry and sensory feeelings.. video image and sound becomming one, essentially Fantasia for the more experimentally minded. What needs to happen is that the tools to create such revolutionary art need to ber put in the hands of the right people to make it, without concern for financial/economic gain. The possibilities are endless, and no one even begins to touch what is possible. Madness can be reproduced. Think Autechre or Tortoise meets the more incredible sound effects a visual feasts of the Pod Race in episode 1, or Derek Jarman's the Queen is Dead video for The Smiths.

Beyond that, I'd love to see Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense in an IMAX theater, Dark City, Felini's Juliette of the Spirits, and the Garbage Pail Kids movie....

  12. Salvia Divinorum and Australia on Australia's Censored URL List Remains Hidden · · Score: 1

Many people here are probably not aware of the fact that Australia recently became the first country to outlaw the use and possession of Salvia Divinorum, a psychedelic plant unrelated to any other in known existence (its active component is Salvinorin-A) -- What's to stop them adding sites like sagewisdom and Erowid in an effort to prevent the free flow of information as well? The reasons of its illegality in Australia are somewhat unknown, as the plant itself is not habit forming, or destructive (at least not known to be), and rather singular in its reality modifiying effects... Restricting information on these topics would only do more to prevent the safe usage of such enthegenic substances.

  13. What course of action would a writer take? on Designing Multiplayer Game Engines? · · Score: 1

I am a writer who constructs abstract representations of unfamiliar realities, worlds that I desire to contain into a multiplayer role playing game. Unfort, I am not a programmer. I am a world creator, from words and mind and want to be part of creating something that is unlike anything previous to it. Something that has an effect on the human mind in almost questionable ways. Also, as a music composer I am wondering how to go about trying to sell my compositional services to a game company?

  14. Re:Takeover on Finale for Final Fantasy Studio · · Score: 1

It looks like you here are still confusing issues. You say "plot and story comes first" and then "Gaia and those ghosts simply sound too New Agee to me." The two things are unrelated. Just because you allow things to hold imprints within your mind, allowing the basic underlying theory to be written off, and thus the plot by simple cultural misprogramming is absurd. Your first statement is true, but the 2nd has only anything to do with your personal opinion.

And the music for Shrek sucked.

  16. Re:E-Prime on Yo - Pay Attention! · · Score: 1

e-prime may appeal to those who find the isness of being unsuitable and incongrous to percieved pure thought, unobstructed by false foundations of essence. some of those people may or may not act/participate in the world as communists-- I wouldn't know, I've never known of anyone else who even knew anything about E-prime.... I think it would appeal to almost anyone, if it were ingrained at an early age that nothing is anything, and that we can only approximate it, and its best (to prevent perhaps, insanity) to utilize language with a sense of both function and beauty...

  17. E-Prime on Yo - Pay Attention! · · Score: 1

It seems to me that Mr. Katz needs to learn E-Prime.. he makes many encompassing statements that prove idiotic in their absolutness. It used to be simple to know what we were supposed to pay attention to. could be... It used to seem simple to know what we were supposed to pay attention to, from the prospective of now, with all its apparent limitations and my own interpreted limitations as a human being. There are no absolutes.. only observations made from particular vantage points....

  18. temporary motor control......... on Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome A Hoax? · · Score: 1

i am 21 years old. about three months ago my wrists, fingers, up to my forearms began to hurt excruciatingly. all the time. idle positions, typing positions. i can't lift a bag of groceries without wincing and calling out now. it's real. and it sucks a whole lot. i haven't even written my best stuff yet. i can't use a pencil or pen anymore. i nearly fail finals in school because i begin to abbreviate things to quicken the process. i've yet to go to a doctor, but will be soon. for now i wear proflex by ergodyne on each hand. seems to help a bit, but the pain is still getting worse in idle positions every day. is it carpal tunnel syndrome? i don't know. but it hurts like hell, and i feel devestated that my life may be compromised just because I like to type. i have a feeling those new mouse wheels don't help much either.......
