There is no way commodity intel boxes are going to match the reliability of the DEC hardware built to run VMS.
Can't this same thing be said about MACs? Apple designs them, builds them, and codes the OS for that said machine.
Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to say that this is not only a good thing, but something that I have the feeling this exact thought is kicking around BillyG's and Monkey Boy's heads.
Prepare for a Win* exclusive machine to be released.

# Advanced Masking
# ================
#
# Gentoo is using a new masking system to allow for easier stability testing
# on packages. KEYWORDS are used in ebuilds to mask and unmask packages based
# on the platform they are set for. A special form has been added that
# indicates packages and revisions that are expected to work, but have not yet
# been approved for the stable set. '~arch' is a superset of 'arch' which
# includes the unstable, in testing, packages. Users of the 'x86' architecture
# would add '~x86' to ACCEPT_KEYWORDS to enable unstable/testing packages.
# '~ppc', '~sparc', '~sparc64' are the unstable KEYWORDS for their respective
# platforms. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING BUT YOUR SPECIFIC ~ARCHITECTURE IN THE LIST.
# IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR ARCH, OR THE IMPLICATIONS, DO NOT MODIFY THIS.

I honestly don't know how to reply to this other than to say:
(yes, yes, I know/. conformaty...) Yes, I really do use Gentoo. I have for about 2 years now. I used MDK before that for quite a while (3 or so years). Personally, I don't use the two distros you mention in your post. I got my teeth cut on RH, and I sunk the 80 bucks into the SuSE 8.0 Pro-Pack, but since I had decided to try Gentoo, I haven't looked back at anything (other than to suggest to n00bs MDK because of ease of use...).
Really, I know it sounds really cliche and all, but, I prefer to use the UNALTERED souce that the developers released. Sure it sucks rather large moose nards to take so damn long to get a box running (when you compile EVERYTHING from source - but the Gentoo 1.4 Live CD takes care of that part of it...:-) ), but I end up with a machine that is top notch. Hell it's even "designed" for *MY* machine.
When no vertical scrolling is sensible (like a wave editor) the scrollwheel should cause horizontal scrolling.
And to add to that the example posted above, a long list of files (in one of the ways Windows will display them). That is EXACTLY the way it works. If there is no possibility of vertical scrolling, it scrolls horizontally by default. (period)
Personally, I still fail to see the need for this. Take KDE's Window Manager for example. If you *can* scroll both ways, just rest your cursor on the scroll bar in the direction you want to go and start wheeling. Up, down, left, right. It'll do it. One wheel.
Perhaps MS should work on the funtionality of their OS before they start developing hardware to work around it's failings.
I strongly suspect that what RedHat is worried about is looking good now. It's quite possible, even likely, that SCO's FUD is making some of RedHat's customers worry about their legal position, and if that's true than RedHat really has to do something about it. A willingness to launch a lawsuit to protect their customers' interests is exactly the kind of thing that will reassure those customers.
This is so much true, it's frightening.
Personally I don't care for RH's distro all that much, but, I'll stand up and stand by them on this one. They are doing the right thing. This can only help us, even if it goes sour, this shows that we do really believe that we are entitled to the product that we are pushing.
You sir deserve a "Score: 1000, Actually Thinking" score.

I want some of whatever (non-existant) SCO is smoking. Must be some pretty good shit.
Ya know, I was thinking almost the exact same thing.
For some reason they are commiting Karmacide (esentailly).
I don't get it. They could've made a LOT of friends, but chose to shove us aside. Makes no sense to me.

I can promise you that the drivers for ATI's card on the X-Box2 will be very good.
You can? Do you work for ATI or M$?
Is this BillyG's or Monkey Boy's alias here?
I'd buy that for a dollar!

If there's any SCO code in there that MS bought from SCO...
one Q.. am I ill-informed for not including Clinton, or for the quotes... I can provide sources for all of them if you like ;)
:-) There's these things called "in jest" and "in context".
No, I was wrong in using the term "ill-informed". As NiceGeek points out, I was a bit off-base in what I was refering to.
As far as the quotes go, Toasty981 handeled some of that...
Just my opinion, I really don't want to get in a flame war here...
Because Clinton never made the commitment to serve. Bush did and then went AWOL.
OK, point made. Clinton just dodged it from the get-go.
Why I can't stand Bush.
Goes AWOL from military.
I don't see any mention of Mr. Clinton in you ill-informed rant.
