If you want to know about the SIMS than you need to go to (or read about) a different Game Developers Conference session such as the conversation between Will Wright and Scott McCloud.
There is some excellent coverage at gamasutra, free registration is required but it is worth it. Here's a fair use excerpt:
Wright touched on the "phase space" of games, which could also be described as the size of the game universe, or how free a player is to go off track and explore. Decades ago, most games were linear, driving players from goal A to goal B and onward, constraining the player to a single course of conduct along the way. Games have evolved to include branching storylines, or to make use of disposable storylines. An example of the latter would be Grand Theft Auto 3, which lets you progress from challenge to challenge in the game, or bypass the story and go off and explore, steal cars, beat people up, get arrested, and cause mayhem. That game, Wright noted, had a large phase space which impressed him with its potential.
I was at this session and I remember a lot that you didn't write down. You could probably reconstruct more of the meaning behind what they were saying (like a reporter does), not just snippets of conversation, based on your notes and the fact that you were there.
I also have a link from there to a petition that I would appreciate signatures by anyone against the use of the DMCA by Blizzard (Vivendi Universal Games) in this case (even if you don't plan on boycotting).
Modal behavior is a bad idea when it comes to user interface design. See Jef Raskin's book "The Humane Interface" (pun intended). There are many ways the write/erase system could have been made non-modal. I don't think you should laugh at people who can't figure out bad designs.
As of about 10 seconds ago I have uploaded the first index.html of boycottblizzard.org. Here goes nothin'. Boycottblizzard.org is an anti-dmca protest site, for the actions of Blizzard shutting down bnetd.

It doesn't have an engine but it has two electric motors per wheel (4 total). Each wheel is independent so it can turn on a dime (no axel). Also, if one motor goes out the thing can still work with just the other one. It also has redundant "sisterboards". Also, the gyroscopes/accelerometers (5) are redundant in that their results are checked against each other.

Why can't anyone see the implications of this?

You say it is "just a scooter". That is like calling the automobile just a "horseless carriage." It's just the closest concept you have to fit. As far as hype, Kamen tried to downplay the "hype" none of which was advertisement, but statements "taken out of context" from the likes of Jobs and Metcalfe (you know the guy who said linux would "fade away"). Can't you see that a vehicle which uses Dynamic Stability to be driven as an extension of your own body movements is a great innovation? What the hell happened to Slashdot, where putting linux on the dreamcast is cool, just because it can be done, yet the Segway is "just a scooter." What the hell?
1. boot diskless system from CDROM which contains image of operating system and encryption software, and your password protected private key
2. physically connect system to network
3. copy encrypted email messages to system
4. physically disconnect from network5. decrypt email
6. shutdown system

I see some complaints about RMS's speaking out. I found ESR to be much worse, especially considering the fact that ESR didn't even take 24 hours to take political advantage of the situation.

That's the first time I've ever heard a non-American say they like American food.
That's because most non-USians think American food = McDonald's.
Virtual I-O's "i-Glasses" have stereo vision and head tracking - why haven't any first-person games been tweaked to support this???
You mean like these?
When I view page source of slate.msn.com, in Mozilla 0.9.5, right now begins with:
html xmlns:render="#local" mlns:edit="http://tempuri.org"><head>

That is, they don't even have a beginning < sign!
When I view page source in IE the < is there!
If you are using DHCP you don't need to set manually the DNS and gateway. You're supposed to get that from DHCP, correct?
Even if the terrorists did use encryption, doesn't the DMCA make it illegal to circumvent it?
