    Wow. 90% of the people born in the last 35 years can be diagnosed with ADHD. It's a new label for being "creative, energetic, and impulsive."

    The only thing that's really changed is now parents and teachers dope their kids up to keep them under control with minimal effort.

    Like several other posters, I have all the symptoms of ADHD. My parents refused to drug me despite requests by teachers that really don't want to have to expend the effort to deal with some kids.

    I turned out fine. I learned discipline to keep my focus. I learned there are consequences to being a flake and not finishing things.

    No, I can't focus as well as some people, and my mind darts all over the place. But damnit, I like it that way, and unlike some people I know, I don't use it as an excuse.

    Uhh... yeah.

    How about voting restrictions a lot more useful:

    If you're on public assistance, you can't vote.

    That way, politicians can no longer directly use my money to buy votes, ala "tax refunds" to people who never paid taxes (which we used to call Welfare).

    Yeah, there are plenty of things in government that need to be cut, but getting a bunch of people to agree on a list of which things those are is outright impossible. (Just try to talk about eliminating NASA around here...)

    It's long, but it's good. The down side is, you'll likely end up understanding all those freaky libertarians and objectivists. :)

    I guess that explains statements like the following, that display his keen insight into our system of government:

    Jackass, if you're reading:

    1) This is not a democracy. We're a democratic republic. There's a big difference.

    2) Forcing someone else to provide you a service is neither freedom, nor related to a democracy. In fact, that would be contrary to freedom.

    3) Claiming you're FORCED to forge email addresses because of "bullying tactics" is akin to claiming you were forced to break into my house and dump junk mail on my desk because I refused delivery.

    Apparently you think America is all about you, and that you somehow have a level of freedom that compels others to act according to your wishes.

    Rot in hell, dickhead.

    I see you've realized how idiotic your comment was, hence your need to personalize it and flame away.

    I do quite well as investing, have a rather large 401k, and have owned my own home for quite some time. I've never run a balance on a credit card, never taken a loan out for a car, and save what most people would consider an obscene percentage of my income.

    However, I'm aware enough of society to realize I'm in the minority. What's your problem? You don't venture out of your basement much?

    I'm not quite Libertarian. More conservative Republican. Libertarians (from my understanding) only want the government to be in charge of taxes and war. I think there's a benefit to interstates and having one currency (though I guess that could come under taxes) as well as interstate commerce.

    Yes, and the republicans want to control absolutely every aspect of your life including half your money - so you're willing to sacrifice that for toll-free interstate highways? :)

    I seriously doubt the interstate highway system is going toll - it's not exactly a priority in the grand scheme of things. ;)

    you think a philosophy degree will set you apart? You might be right, but not in a good way. :)

    Set your sites on a lower salary, get some experience. There are always places looking for cheap labor, if you can show you're smart and you'll work hard in exchange for mediocre pay but good experience.

    Well, resisting the temptation to make the usual slew of Candian jokes ... :)

    If Canada allowed people to own actual firearms, didn't have even higher tax rates than the US, and didn't force you into crappy socialized medicine, I might consider moving there to avoid the War on Drugs (80s), Save The Children (90s), and The War on Terrorism (00s).

    Until then, I'll keep voting Libertarian and writting my congress critters.

    I assume all of you bitching about the US don't vote republican or democrat, and thus aren't part of the problem, riiiiight ?

    PS: Since I know some Canucks will respond:

    1) Your total average tax rates are higher than ours, although it appears that by 2005, that might change.

    2) It's about being FORCED into your medical program. That's not freedom.

    3) We like guns. You guys used to.

    Income tax was originally outlawed in the U.S. It was deemed necessary at some point, but only the extremely wealthy had to pay so it was accepted. Now look where we are.

    That's okay, the democrats say only the rich pay income taxes or benefit from tax cuts, so you're OBVIOUSLY rich... =)

    I assume you've written your representative and asked them to support HR25, the Fair Tax Bill of 2003?

    And that you vote Libertarian? :)

    If someone has the smarts to earn the money, they have the smarts to manage their money. Just do some research and quit assuming the only way to win is to get rich quick.

    BTW I have degrees in Finance and MIS with Accounting and Economics being my hobby areas (I could have gotten degrees in both Accounting and Economics as well but I figured 2 degrees were enough). I am planning on getting a Masters in Economics next year (or the year after depending on my financial situation) just for fun.

    Ahh... well, I suppose your myriad of degrees explains how you can be so naive as to make an assinine comment like "If someone has the smarts to earn the money, they have the smarts to manage their money."

    I guess technically you didn't say "manage well" ...
