The only logical choice was cassette

No, the only logical choice was a CD (/MP3?) player with a nice set of inputs. Unless you have thousands of cassettes that you bought before 1985 and don't have the time to archive them to CD, a cassette player in a car is a silly idea. My CD player is a few years old and does not support MP3, but the inputs on the back allow me to plug in any device I choose (such as a portable MP3 player, or even a cassette player - except that I haven't touched a cassette for almost 10 years).

Do the raid controllers emulate being scsi hosts, run off OS drivers (=likely windows ones), etc?

Yes. As far as the OS is concerned, each raid controller is one big giant SCSI disk. There are no master/slave disks, each controller has 8 ports for 8 drives - again, only one drive per channel, no master/slave.

The IDE RAID controller is the thing that makes this work. It takes care of all the issues you mentioned (drive limitations, booting, speed issues, etc). But since you can only have 8 drives on a single controller, you put in multiple controllers. With 3 controllers, you can get 24 drives. At 120GB a pop, that's 2880GB. You'll lose some of that to RAID but you're still looking at close to 2TB. Then you do a software raid 0 on the 3 drives (as far as the OS is concerned, you have three huge scsi disks) and you can create one giant partition with very acceptable performance.

These prices are available at almost every online retailer, Costco, usually Best Buy & Circuit City for a week or so after release, etc. Out of the 100 some odd DVDs I own, I paid an average of $15-$16 a piece.

DVDs, IMHO, are in their perfect price range. As long as I can always buy new releases for less than $20, I'll stay a happy camper.

Other than the fact that they've had problems with their upstream providers (they've switched a couple of times and bandwidth has suffered), it works great. A little expensive, but I run all of my servers over it with no problems.

Maybe Earthlink will buy these guys out and put a real backbone behind it. It would be nice to get my full 1Mbps (most of the time I get 500-800Kb), assuming they'll offer a faster return path - 128k doesn't cut it when you're hosting web sites.

A friend of mine has two teenage daughters. They went out and bought a bunch of CDs with explicit lyrics about a year ago. A few months later he found out about them and took a dozen CDs as well as his daughters down to the store in the mall to demand a refund. They refused, claiming the CDs had been opened, and besides, he didn't have receipts for any of them. He raised his voice, told them he wasn't leaving until every last penny was refunded, and also said if they gave him any more shit he would have them prosecuted for selling these CDs to his minor children.

This is a blatent violation of everything the USA stands for, and that's why we're so up in arms over it. We've got rulings on the books now that say it's illegal to simply link to DeCSS, and that ruling was UPHELD on appeal. Talk about freedom of speech violations.

1 full cup of blue liquid has been put into the red container. At this point, the blue is more pure because the red has been contaminated.

After stirring the red up, one cup is transferred back into the blue container. This cup that is being transferred contains ~95% red and ~5% blue (percentages will change based on the amount of original liquid, but you get the idea).

So while the red had been contaminated with 100% of 1 cup, the blue has only been contaminated with 95% of the same volume. Thus, there is more blue liquid in the red bucket than there is red liquid in the blue bucket.

So the answer is, the blue is more pure.

Sorry, no-can-do. After using the remote starter, you still cannot drive the car without inserting the key and turning it to "on". If you press the brake or shift into gear, the system kills the engine. Reproducing the remote starter's signal would do you zero good; you'd still have to break into the vehicle traditionally and hotwire/etc.

You know nothing about remote starters. They start the car but leave the doors LOCKED. If you attempt to put the car into gear or otherwise touch the brakes without inserting the key and turning the ignition on, the system will shut the engine off. Again, the car will start remotely but cannot be driven without the key (unless you hotwire it, in which case it's no less safe than a car without a remote starter).

The problem here is with these new ignitions, you have to buy a special module to install in your car and stick a spare key in that module. Then, the thief just has to reach under the dash, grab the key and he's good to go. Bad idea.
