It's too bad the G4 Cube never took off. That is what I would consider a living room toy.
Mine's in my living room connected to my Wega. They didn't take off because they were priced VERY close to a G4 tower at launch. People don't forgive Apple when they make a mistake, even if they correct it (lowered the price A LOT). I didn't care, the thing is modern art and I figured I had a chance at owning the next Colour Classic (I was right). I used it for 3 years until something better finally came out: the G5.
I myself cannot understand why a case manufacturer could not hire some design majors and clean up in the PC case market. It's not THAT hard to make an aesthetically pleasing computer case, Apple's been doing it for over 20 years, sgi for near that.
To read their news for free just for filling in some info seems like a generous trade
As opposed to reading it in the doctor's office, diner, Starbucks, etc for free without having to do anything? Print media survives solely on advertising. The price of most magazines/newspapers (at the newstand) just about covers the cost of the paper.
When I buy a $2 a week subscription for the NYT, they don't ask ANY of the information that they ask online. Why is it that discussing income on the job can get you fired, but giving it to the NYT is OK? CLEARLY the information can not be so important that they don't care to have it from their paying subscribers.
Apple includes a very good Bluetooth utility for browsing and transferring files on the phone.
I disagree on that. Bluetooth phones should mount on the desktop when connected and I should be able to browse it with a Finder window. I think the browser now is clunky at best.
FWIW only Verizon charges people to use hardware features.
The nature of cell phones these days is that they are basically free
They're only free in the US, which in the world of mobile phones is a pretty insignificant market when compared to the saturation of mobile phones in other countries. Because Americans won't pay for phones, we rarely see any of the good ones, or get outdated tech.
Most major handheld game consoles in North America used alkaline AA or AAA batteries.
Outside of Tiger Electronics' simple one-game handhelds, there's never been a "major" handheld game console ANYWHERE except Gameboy. I am assuming "major" would be relative to the leader, in which case there has never been another portable game system period besides Gameboy. Nintendo 0wnz portable gaming and has for, what, 15 years or so? They have obliterated all the competition and quite fairly when you look at how interesting Neo Geo pocket and Wonderswan Color are.
It's ALL about the games when it's portable. There is no whizz bang graphics. No one cares when they are trying to endure a boring flight or a long car ride or the time between classes if there are a million CGI scenes, they want to be entertained. Sony has no understanding of what portable gaming means. It means games designed around playing them 15-30 minutes at a time. Somehow, I can't see PS1 ports as filling that niche.
On to your comment about length of time away from an outlet. I may not be away from a power source for more than 3 hours, but am I at the next power source for an hour to charge the battery? I personally do not like being tethered while using a portable of any kind, whether it be an iPod, CD Player, laptop or game system.
rather than a say a Wiki that anyone with an axe to grind can distort
As I've stated before, Wikipedia has an excellent track record of freezing pages where the neutrality of the page is disputed, and they freeze it to the edit before the dispute (this is a rare occurence anyway).
I don't think a "real" encyclopaedia is any more accurate or neutral in general. Is there some sort of guarantee from Britannica or Microsoft that I get my money back if they get something wrong? Oh, I have the assurance of a corporation that it's correct. OK

The disturbing part is that the article doesn't mention this is a Windows-only phenomenon. Nowhere does it mention that these problems don't exist on Mac and Linux.
Apple has held onto their operating systems with a stranglehold. I doubt they'll ever sell of their desktop business, selling computers is what makes them money. They have the best margins in the industry.
With a thick black sharpie, you can even ad-block.
I have found that for the most part, print ads are better than commercials because you have to create a single instance. You get one moment in time to convey your product. I like that better than seeing some dumb commercial 50 times in the same program.
I have a friend who works for Time-Warner here in Cincinnati and he says that the HBO/Shotime/etc. on demand stations are used on their system much more than movies on demand, and the movies on demand are accessed more than pay-per-view (they're considering eliminating pay-per-view stations).
I think people would prefer a subscription to a station over piecemeal payments.
I totally disagree. Fight Club was MARKETED out of the theatre. They marketed the movie as a completely different idea than what the movie was actually about. None of the previews actually tell you anything about the movie except that there's a fight club and you don't talk about it. That is NOT what the movie was about.
So taking "the initiative in creating" something isn't inventing it? Am I unreasonable in thinking otherwise?
Pretty much, yeah. If I create a piece of art, I didn't invent art, or even that form of art. If I create a new television show, I didn't invent TV or even TV shows.
"Yes, I bought this Porsche and it does not accelerate fast enough, what are you going to do to fix it?"
Well, first off, cars come with a warranty. This is not a "my Palm doesn't browse the web fast enough" this is akin to "there's a problem with the transmission and it jerks when I shift gears".
Everyone's tastes are different and I rarely trust a reviewer for advice on anything subjective. I was told the T616 had great reception. Sure, if you're a reviewer in San Francisco or New York. It's GSM only, which is great now but sucked when I bought it as there wasn't a lot of coverage a year ago.
Some reviewers say the quality is "crisp", I say it's tinny. Some say it's muffled, I say it has good sound-cancelling. You never know what their opinion of "good" is.
That said it's pretty much impossible to get someone to let you try a phone before you buy it. I know, I've tried at both Sprint (work account) and Cingular (home account). Clearly there's an issue, like most glitches it may not pop up all the time, or it may not appear until after a fashion.
Really, what incentive would they have to sell you another PDA phone in two years if the one you have now works perfectly?
You must use Windows. How about better features/integration?
The "it" quite clearly refers to the method of presenting information and the response action. Since the discussion was in reference to the two differing methods.
Play dumb all you want, it was quite obvious what my reference was. You also avoided the challenge completely. Fitting.
They aren't verbs, they're _answers_. To the _question_ the dialog box just asked. The clue is in that little squiggly symbol "?" at the end of the sentence.
Explain to me how this is better. You've explained why it's broken, now tell me why it's better.
Nonstandard save dialogue that gives options "No" [space] "Yes" and "Cancel" with the default going to "Cancel."
This always makes me crazy. Buttons should be Verbs because they cause an action. A dialog should tell you what happened, why it happened, and what you can do.
This is the way it should be.
Except it doesn't work for me. Dual 2 Ghz G5 running 10.3.6 and I get all kinds of cosmetic glitches (black patches all over) and I can't use it. Are there supposed to be menus? Because I don't have any.
I've never had any luck with ABiWord, so I'm not surprised. Maybe Apple could use this as the basis for the next AppleWorks, of course I think KOffice would be a better fit.

The PS One is already pretty small and not all that much bigger than a gamepad. Main problem is CD media is BIG, both in size and storage capacity.
In most game systems what takes up the most space is poor design.

yeah, DRM sucks. Next time you'll take your asshat off before buying DRMed files.
Person B only has the choice of steak.
Which Person has the better option?
Well, all other reasons aside, looks like Nintendo may rake in the market share just by having better initial quality.

You've completely missed the point. The point being that there's no advantage to a "traditional" encyclopaedia.
As I've stated before, Wikipedia has an excellent track record of freezing pages where the neutrality of the page is disputed, and they freeze it to the edit before the dispute (this is a rare occurence anyway).

Because survival horror game players are a TOTALLY different base than first person shooters.

They're not similes.

More than likely this is something they'd add to the iPod. At this time I don't see Apple coming out with any more digital devices.
