"We think narcotics are a societal and economic hazard...uh, and they help fund terrorism!"

"We think people [sharing] our [horribly overpriced] content is detrimental to our multi-billion dollar industry...uh, and they help fund terrorism!"

Granted, the motive behind some of these arguments are noble while others aren't quite so, but does anyone stop to think that *perhaps* cluttering up the concept of terrorism with so many periphery concerns is only going to hurt the "fight" against terrorism in the long run?

I don't agree with this. Why is it that smaller devices cost more $$$ than big ones?

Uh...if you were following the thread you'd notice that technically the "smaller" $600-$700 pda doesn't cost more than the "larger" $800 notebook (that's a little trick I like to call "math"). The comparison is made because the prices are similar and both aim to be light and portable.

Why not compare the $600-$700 with an equivalent desktop build? I bet I can make a LCD desktop with $800 and have stuff like a 2400+ AMD chip in it.

You'd probably not make that comparison for the same reason you don't carry around a desktop PC in your pocket, which, even if you could, you'd might not want to with a 2400+ AMD. ouch!

Actually, from the facts you mention it sounds more like comparing oranges and tangerines. An $800 subnotebook and a $600-$700 pda might have more incommon than you'd think.

The Segway is undeniably cool, but I've just never seen it having much of a future. 9. Kind of Funny Actually on Another Millionaire Spammer Story · · Score: 1

I'm continually surprised that so many people have problems with spam. I rarely receive spam. It's really not too hard to avoid if you follow a few simple rules.

First, pick a single e-mail address and designate this your master or primary address.

Second, register a few free e-mail addresses with forwarding capability (not too hard to find if you know where to look) and point them to your master address.

Third, whenever you give out your e-mail address, whether for a program registration, message board account, irc, whatever, always give one of these junk addresses, Never your master address. Naturally, if you can help it, don't give out your address at all or simply enter some random garbage.

Fourth, if perchance you do begin to receive spam from a particular address, simply delete or change the forwarding of the address you received spam on.

Pretty straight forward. To recap, use temp addresses forwarded to a single address and don't give out any address unless you need to. When spam happens, delete the temp address responsible.

Of course, there may still be other problems, such as with addresses posted on sites for strictly utilitarian reasons like a webmaster/help/info address. However, an e-mail form can be used to help cut down these types of abuse.

Oh yeah, and try not to buy too much stuff from spammers. Keep it below $50 if you manage.

To date, Debian is the only one to implement such a utility that doesn't force you to search for some discrete x11 file everytime kudzu makes a tweak. It still alludes me as to why no other distros have done the same. It's just such a small annoyance made larger by its simplicity.
