My biggest problem with the ATITD2 beta is the lack of instructions. I played ATITD for a bit so I understand the premise of the game, but i still got lost after a couple of minutes. The UI is not very intuitive, either to a newbie or to someone used to other MMOGs. And the method of progression is completely unknown to new players. I got lucky enough to start near a guild (or whatever) building that offered membership and access to tools if you just went and gathered a few things for them... but I had no idea where to get the things. Sand, ok, easy. Grass, again, easy. Wood, a little harder, but I figured out you could click on the trees so that wasnt too tough. But slate? where tf do i get slate?

no, you wouldnt. if someone accepts LOAF-ish emails only, you would simply have to have a mutual friend who DOES use LOAF. If you are bob's friend, and bob is tom's friend, then tom's master LOAF hash will include all of bob's hashes, which will include your email address.

  8. Re:Spam blocking uses? on LOAF - Distributed Social Networking Over Email · · Score: 3, Informative

There is no central list. The concept is that you append a list of YOUR friends to the end of each email you send. No one can read the list alone, but they can check if specific addresses are in it. So when someone new emails you, you check their address against all the known-good LOAF hashes youve recieved, this will tell you if they are a friend of a friend of yours.

What money is "real" then? There are currency exchanges where you can convert one virtual currency for another, and sites where you can buy/sell virtual currency for "real" currency. Its as much a commodity as any other currency.

As to the law applying, its a matter of PRECEDENT. I didnt say they would pass a new law. They dont have to. As soon as a judge rules that scamming virtual currency is against EXISTING fraud laws then what this guy did becomes illegal, in a somewhat retroactive fashion. Precedent doesnt have to pre-date the crime, it only has to pre-date the day its applied again in court. This is why you sometimes hear of a court postponing a decision until a [higher profile / more important] case in a [higher] court is decided which will affect the outcome.
