I'm Irish too man, and I have to say most of our fellow citizens that I know would find this a bit extreme. Yes, it grates on our ears to hear the islands called the British Isles, but I don't think many would dispute that that's common usage. Who cares? We've had independence for, what, 85 years now? It's not a big deal.
I had one of those too, LOVED that machine. Now have an MBP 2.0GHz, I occasionally hear a very, very low whine if it's running hot and the room is VERY quiet -- but it is barely audible. Then again, I'm 38 so my hearing's probably going or something.
Seriously, are the frames of Japanese comics meant to be read right to left? Does the language work that way too? (I know Arabic and some others are like that...) For some reason, (although it should) it surprises me if that's the case.
You know, earlier you were complaining about not being able to find good work for a while... maybe this ugly, stupid attitude and your cheap-ass looking website combine to present a less than favorable impression? Just saying.
This is quite contrary to my experience over 5 years with three different laptops from Apple. The most recent incident; was using my MBP 2.0GHz one Saturday a couple of months after I bought it, and the airport died, then disappeared! About this Mac said none was installed... uh-oh. Then the same happened to the audio hardware. So I took it to the Genius Bar at the West County Mall in Des Peres, MO, the "genius" poked around with it, booted from an external drive, etc. No avail, service required, so he took my details and my MBP.
I was contacted a few days later by Apple to inform me that the failure was due to spill damage... I was ticked. I knew I hadn't spilled anything on it, and I live alone (no kids, separated), and I RARELY have people over and hadn't since the Mac was bought. I escalated the complaint to Customer Relations, and they emailed me photos of the spill damage. I argued that that could have happened while it was in their custody, they held fast to their position. I asked how much the repairs would cost... just shy of $1000. I asked if they could do anything to reduce the cost, and the CR lady agreed to charge me 66% of the repair. I wasn't happy, but what can you do? I needed the machine back.
I got my machine back this Monday. They had replaced the lower case, the upper case, the keyboard, the inverter, the main logic board and sundry sensors. Basically, a brand-new machine, containing a few of the parts from my MBP... why do many parts replaced? Then I noticed that they said it was a covered repair, meaning I don't pay -- and they haven't charged my card.
I am guessing that upon further investigation / tech work, they found that the spill damage was just a small part of a bigger issue, and replaced all of the bad parts, and accepted that it was a warranty issue... they could still have charged me the agreed-upon $650, but didn't, even though I would have been none the wiser.
That restored my faith in Apple. And it's consistent with previous interactions with AppleCare.
Zimbabwe was quite a developed economy, until the glorious leader there went on a rampage of forced wealth redistribution and wrecked the economy. I understand that the supposed rationale was the righting of wrongs committed during colonial and post-colonial rule by the white "overclass", but the practical result of the half-assed way this was carried out (squatters, mob rule) meant that it was an utter disaster. I feel sorry for the average Zimbabwean, regardless of race or origin, because it isn't pretty for them right now.
Yeah, seriously... I'll take a Volvo over my 9-year old Chevy Blazer with dents and scratches any day. If being a Mac user means I drive a Volvo, where the heck is my Volvo!
I never said there was anything wrong with being a Kiwi, I merely encouraged you to examine some of the nastier episodes from the past if you're going to drag the French spies/Rainbow Warrior attack up.
>buy the way, Microsoft in Eirope uses Irland as a proxy, therefore not paying ANY taxes as company.
Uses Ireland as a proxy in the sense that they based most of their European business there. Somehow I think you're more concerned with our undercutting taxes whereever you're from (I'm guessing one of the high-tax countries). Ireland certainly does not wander around cheerleading for MS in the EU Parliament or Commission. Your attitude suggests you disagree with our policy of low taxation (12.5%). Low taxation is not no taxation. I suppose MS uses Ireland as a "proxy" in the same way that Siemens uses Germany or ABB uses Sweden. Of course, I disagree with high taxation, since we already tried that in Ireland and it lead to 18% unemployment in the mid-80s.
Sidebar; I sent an email to the French President a couple of years ago (just some small commentary on a position he had taken in some pan-European debate) and received a very formal, hand-written response from his office. Given that the comment didn't really warrant a response, I was very pleasantly surprised. Bear in mind that I'm neither a French citizen (I'm Irish), nor was I resident in France at the time (I'm in the USA).
I'm from Ireland, living in the US for 8 years now, and have to agree. Although salaries in Ireland appear to be much higher on the face of it, in Purchasing Power Parity they certainly are not. Housing costs and indirect taxation being the killers in Ireland, plus ridiculously high costs for services... Rip-Off Ireland is alive and well.

Glad we provided the tiny population to allow you to use it. :-) It's a good one.
Just as soon as you all stop interfering with us, we'll do that. Thanks so much.
Another whinging pom down under, you mean? :-) Good move. I'm a paddy myself, spent a year in Sydney and would LOVE to live in the lucky country again.
Because you're an atrocious cowpat, I will take your word for this.

Good post, ObsessiveMathFreak... just wanted to mention that the population of "l'Hexagon" is in fact around the 60 million mark, though.

Ceci n'est pas une signature...
Actually, you're more of a lunatic. Seriously, get some help.

US citizens don't require a visa from the US government to work abroad... the government of the country the person wants to work in might, though.
No. They asked for my credit card details to cover the repair cost, and specifically said it not covered by warranty.

Sraid is Irish (or "gaelic", as English speakers insist on calling it) for "street".

Best. Sig. EVER!

And both of those are "major" in terms of complexity, mission-critical use (TIBCO), performance...
Quest JProbe. The TIBCO suite of tools. Both commercial, both excellent, both written in Java.
Get over it, Kiwi. Criticize your own people for their treatment of the indigenous population if you're so focussed on history.
