I spent some time in a small town in Mexico that has no traffic signs or stop lights. It is called Puente de Ixtla, and all the traffic is controlled by a well thought out series of giant humps in the road. It seemed to work surprisingly well.
I saw this movie! Harrison Ford was in it, and lots of people were talking about how stupid it was, except he used the MP3 wired to a fax machine to "read" the numbers off the screen, which was pretty stupid.
It's too bad they didn't think up something more plausible like what this guy did.
Some friends of mine were setting up a new computer and asked for my help. I created usernames for all 3 of them (Mom, Dad, and kid), that way when the log in, they get their own mail, their own IM accounts, etc.. It was all working fine.
Then I came back a couple weeks later, and they had deleted the other accounts, and were using only 1 account. They said it was too complicated to use their own account.
Now when the log in, they have to change the username of the last person who logged into IM, Mail, etc.. It looks far more complicated to me doing it how they are than using their own accounts. It makes no sense to me. And yet there are probably a lot of people like that.
This is very disturbing as ReiserFS is a very important part of SUSE. Perhaps he will get a lighter sentence so that he can continue work on this project.
I'm paying 69 euros a month for my crappy 2MB DSL connection in Spain. It is from Telefonica, and granted, some portion of that is actually for the phone line, which I don't need or want, but is required for them to sell me DSL.
That should work out to about 80 US dollars a month, which doesn't sound very cheap to me..
I have never had a job where the Internet access was filtered or restricted. I had jobs before businesses were connected to the internet but since Internet connectivity has become the norm, I haven't had a job where it was restricted. I don't even know anyone who has had such a job. I don't think there are many employers out there who are doing this.
I was just surprised to see them on the list. It's not like I hate yahoo or anything. And clearly you are a big fan. That is great. I can't argue with either of your points.
Yahoo has a really nice currency converter, which I have used for years.
I have never been on napster.com, but I see why it made the list.
I have never heard of either "blogger.com" or "friendsreunited.com"
slashdot.org - Yay!
salon.com - What? How did this crappy website change the world?
google.com - Duh.. Why isn't this number 1?
yahoo.com - Really? Yahoo?
15. easyjet.com (Budget airline) -- And out of nowhere. Easyjet? Man, I love Easyjet. I fly them everywhere I can. But I don't see how they changed the world or even influenced any other sites very much. This was a really wierd one to be on this list.
Well, we will all sure sleep better with him off the streets. Maybe they will lock him up with David Carruthers and throw away the key. Do YOU feel safer?/It really seems like the FBI is more interested in publicity than public saftey sometimes..
I run mine wide open because that is they way I want it. I secure my machine of course, but if someone is within range and wants to use my connection, I don't have a problem with that. Hell, my SID is actually "WideOpen".
I used my neighbor's DSL for over a year, but I eventually got my own. There is no reason every house on a block should purchase their own Internet connection, and wireless network. Apartment buildings are in an even better situation. All that money that people are spending on individual connections could purchase a lot higher speed connection for everyone and still save money.
Some say that good managers should not be technical at all.
Those people are idiots.

That "article" is nothing more than a commercial for using their data recovery service.

Didn't someeone just say that you would have to be nuts to purchase youtube? Because they will get sued as soon as they have any money? Who was that?
That is just silly. That would be a great article for April 1st.. /especially since google likes to announce new stuff on April 1st.
Holy crap, that is clever. Where do they think this stuff up? What a great way to get people to work for them for free.
I wish Google would hire me.
Visual Studio 2005 just rocks.. I only wish there was something remotely similar for Linux.

It is even cheaper than all 3 sites already mentioned at Nerdbooks.com
I buy almost all my books from them. They have great prices and a great selection.
Have you not been on the internet very long!?
quite a while. Longer than yahoo.
I was just surprised to see them on the list. It's not like I hate yahoo or anything. And clearly you are a big fan. That is great. I can't argue with either of your points.

We agree that Salon.com sucks though, right?
I mostly agree with them.

Why was that supposed to be funny?
Are we all hating John Dvorak now? Because I guess i didn't get that memo.
I have a hard time believing that someone at Microsoft said that. It really doesn't make any sense.
And do they even have a corporate search product? I know google does, but I've never heard of a corporate search Microsoft product.
Civil Offense.
Not Criminal.
I'd guess that Microsoft may soon add google.com to the list of blocked URL's on their intranet."
Says someone who knows squat about Microsoft.
Wow, Ground corneas!! The military gets all the good stuff..
Unpossible
