Windows 2000 is one of their best platforms. It performs ok, and is more stable than anything they have previously put out. The only reason they would stop support for it is so that they can FORCE people to make unnecessary upgrades, and get more money.
The fact that usage has only dropped by 4% shows that their customers still want to use it. I would think they would do a better job of doing what their clients want.
Every time I leave the US. they shut off my card for "unusual activity". They do this despite the fact that there is nothing unusual about me being out of the country. It just takes a phone call to turn it back on, but it is still a hassle due to the time difference.
Yes, I learned a long time ago that the best approach is to make my signature a completely uninteligable squiggle.
It's hard to duplicate, and no one can ever tell me that I didn't sign my entire name. the first time a purchased a home, I had a legible signature and they made me sign MY FULL NAME like eleventy billion times.
Now, I just squiggle, and if they say that isn't my full name, I say, "yes it is... Can't you read?"
I completely agree. I've been modding funny things as interesting. When the admins took away the karma for funny, they should have at the very least, removed the possibility to lose the karma at the same time..
Personally, I think that funny counts, and that it should still count as sometimes we all enjoy a good laugh about things... I suspect that what was happening is that people gathered lots of karma posting nonsense in the polls, and then created problems in the actual discussions..
I think that a better solution might have been to leave funny mods as counting towards karma, but only in the actual discussions, and not in the stupid polls....
When I opened a Best Buy account, (just to take advantage of their 0 interest program), the form had a option to also ask for a Household Mastercard, which I declined. I checked NO on the box to decline it, and the sales person protested, saying that it was a great card t have. I again said that I didn't want one.
They opened a Mastercard acount for me anyway, and sent me a card, which I never activated, because I never applied for one.
Then, a few months later, they sent me a letter saying they were closing my account for either 1. bad history on my credit (which there is none), or 2. for Overuse of other credit lines (which isn't there either.).
I wanted to contact them, and explain that I never even applied for a Mastercard account, and to tell them to remove that from my credit report, as it now shows up as and opened and then closed account. They didn't include a phone number on the letter, and I never bothered to mail them anything, as I don't think having it opened and then closed actually damages my credit history.
STill it's annoying, as they never should have sent me a Mastercard in the first place.
They used to sell their own anti-virus software, but then they left that market because they felt it was best to focus on their core products, and that other companies who specialized in anti-virus software were better equipped to sell that kind of software.
What has changed since then to make them want to get back in the game?
$450,000 is only the base price. Apparently, these things are quite scaleable, and many of them will likely cost much more than 450k.
I don't know what their profit margin is. I'd like to know. But more than 10% wouldn't surprise me.

Wiring a Neighborhood?

· Score: 2, Interesting
There wasn't anything in his original post that said that Canadians weren't americans.
That being said, I'd agree that Holland is a great country. It was a lot prettier than I imagined, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that it "would be the envy of all Americans". The weather kind of sucks most of the year for starters.
There are lots of nice countries in the Americas, and there are lots of nice countries in Europe. Each one has something different to offer.
Interestingly, I found France to be the most wired country I've visited. EVERYTHING in France is online. It's amazing. Holland might be similar, but I never lived there.
I wish that this wiring entire neighborhoods concept would take hold in other developing countries where they are building the infrastructure right now. It doesn't cost much more to do it right at the onset. It costs a fortune to come back and do it later..
I have a followup question on this. Hopefully this isn't offtopic.
I've just bought a house 10 houses down from a family member who has a Cable internet connection, and wifi in the house.
Obviously, I'm out of range at 10 houses down. Does anyone know of a cheap and easy way to extend that range down a bit so that I can share the same internet connection?
Due to a curve in the street and some trees, I don't have "Line of sight". The distance is less than 100 meters.
I had two routers go missing from a transport room, which should have less people in and out. My name and phone number was all over the cabinet and the routers.
To be fair, I hadn't connected them yet, so they were just in the cabinet not powered up, and I was going to bring them up the next time I returned to that location, which was going to be in about 3 months. All to often, in a production environment, when there is an emergency, anything not powered up is often considered fair game. I'm sure that the routers are still in use at the company, I just can't find them.
Most colo space in our company is pretty secure. You'd have a pretty tough time getting in if you weren't supposed to be there. Even if you did get in to the colo space, most customers keep the stuff that they manage themselves in locked cages, inside the already secured colo space. Perhaps it was Verizon employees just trying to screw over Sprint. Or perhaps Sprint didn't secure their stuff properly.

This seems like a bad move.
I can't think of a good reason to embedd a video clip into Word. I didn't even realize this possible.
My credit card company does that too.
Bank of America.

Besides, it should have been Teh Internets
They can really dedicate this spare time to teach some third country children to correct spell English.
AND
But hey, not all third countries have big oil reserves.
I think you mean to say "Third World Countries".
For example: What third world country are you from?
(Technically, I think there is a problem with that sentence too. Something about ending a sentence with a preposition or something...)
So, Anyway, What third world country are you from?
do you by any chance know how to configure an Avaya Definity G3 to do that? I have one, and I can't seem to configure the caller id.
I thought drug use carried the death penalty in China? Is that true?

Warren Batty?
WTF?
Buffet perhaps?
or Beatty, the actor?
My broker, Bank of America Investments, has SCOX available to short.

Because they make huge amounts of money off the service plans that don't get used. In fact, that is the only thing that makes them so profitable.
If everyone got refunds for the unused plans, the stores wouldn't even offer them.
What if you bought it with your Best Buy card?
That would leave you without the option to dispute it wouldn't it?

They cannot mine it from your email, because doing so implicates the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (18 USC 2701-11)
Implicates?? What?
I should have mentioned that after you are at that site, you have to click on Callejero Fotografico. Then enter addresses..
Madrid and Bercelona are alaready online, and most buildings have multiple views.
check it out here. However the site seems to be running very slow at the moment.
For some sample addresses, you can use Calle Serrano 75, or Francisco Silvela 20

------Can you hear me now?.
I office in a big room with 30 or so Servers, and a lot more routers. The whole room resonates with this nice soothing hum.
People are always asking me "How can you work in here? Doesn't that noise drive you Nuts?" I tell them: If the noise stops is when I'd go nuts!
That said, I'm obviously not working in a recording studio.
