    1) Get a degree (obvious). Night school or whatever.

    2) Never leave your current job (also obvious, but not really under your control)

    3) Network. A lot. Without a degree, in this job market, your only chances for landing another job are to a) already know the person, have an 'in', or b) impress the hell out of the interviewer. b) is possible in smaller companies, but if the interview's being conducted by HR, you can just forget it. So that leaves a); gets lots of people who know you, and are willing to hire you if you get canned.

    I've never used Forte, but common sense would say that it contain some way to filter by IP address (from the NNTP-Posting-Host header). Worst case scenario is you have to filter each troll individually, but even that shouldn't be a problem if it gets you peace and quiet afterwards.

    Chrisd put up a slashdot story talking about how the Lone Gunmen (from the X-Files) were killed off in an episode here, before the episode had aired for a number of slashdot readers. The caption of the story was even "The Lone Gunmen Are Dead", negating any possibility that someone visiting slashdot could avoid the spoiler.

    Lots of folks quite upset.

    For instance, is there a way to switch between tabs, using the keyboard?

    Ctrl-PageUp and Ctrl-PageDown.

    And, just in case, you can use Ctrl-L to jump to the address bar (this is mentioned in the help, just hard to find); useful for those who got used to Alt-D in IE.

    I don't know about the rest of you but for me Doom was the action orientated gameplay, where for example often you had to take on over a dozen imps with a mere shotgun. It would be great to relive that experience all over again in a 3D fully environment powered by a cutting engine.

    Have you tried Serious Sam? It sounds like just what you're looking for; arcade style action galore.

    Now the logic here is that he may very well be a threat to society and the government must protect the lives of other citizens. I'm not saying that that's wrong I'm just saying that it completely contradicts the "inncocent until proven guilty" clause.

    Ah, literalness. "Innocent until proven guilty" does not mean that people cannot assume that you are guilty unless proven otherwise (for purposes of getting warrants, locking you up until trial, etc). What it means is that in a trial, it is not up to you to prove your innocence; it is up to the prosecution to prove your guilt. Ie, Robert Blake does not need to prove that he did not kill his wife; he simply needs to make sure the prosecution cannot prove that he did.

    Can anyone explain this odd trend? Has anyone else noticed it? Or has it always been happening and I've just been oblivious until recently?

    TNT (or TNN? I always get the two confused) has been doing this for many years; most of their shows are offset by 5 minutes or so. The reasoning, as I was led to understand it, was that if you're watching their show, and their show ends at 9:05, you are more likely to watch whatever is on next, which is just starting, rather than to watch something on another channel which is already in progress, where you missed the beginning.

    The thing that caught my eye more than the graphics and the new HUD look was the message at the bottom of the shot saying "You have the ball, deliver it to the enemy base!" I don't know if this is a mod that's already out there, but it seems like it's based on sports like football, soccer (the other white football), and games like it.

    Team Fortress Classic (for Half-Life) had a map called 'Push'. Instead of having two flags, you had one soccer ball, and the point was to take it to the goal in the other team's base.

    I've never, ever seen a webbrowser that automatically installs stuff.

    IE will happily install stuff without prompting if that's the way the security is set up; eg, if you set the "Internet Zone" (or whatever) to "Low" security, it will automatically download any signed ActiveX control.

    Brown bread has always been known to be better for you. Even considering "enriched" white bread, and I use the term loosely, brown bread contains more nutrients and more fiber than white bread, and has a lower glycemic index to boot.
