    Well, I agree for the most part, but you have to agree that RealPlayer sucks ass. RealPlayer has low framerates, crashes randomly, and can't seek through a partially downloaded media file. All in all, lame. And each successive version of realplayer gets bigger and bigger. I think RP8 was what, 14mb?

    Here's an example: I decide that I don't like you very much, so I sit on the sidewalk or lawn in front of your house, holding a sign saying "THIS MAN IS A CHILD MOLESTOR" and screaming to every passersby that you rape children. Now, am I 100% protected by free speech, or am I breaking some laws? Am I entitled to sit on YOUR lawn, YOUR property, and scream out that you're a child molestor? Free speech doesn't mean you can break laws.

    Yeah, I have that problem... I'm out in the middle of nowhere, so I'm stuck paying over $50 a month for DSL service that only works 75% of the time, and is slow as hell. I have friends in other cities who pay $40 for 8mbps cable modem connections, and I pay $50 for 384kbps DSL. Plus, I had to pay $200 for a router because the internal modem they gave me wouldn't work.

    The joy of citizens communications.

    Windows has done that since NT4 and 95.
    Also, Windows XP added a little 'cd' icon that appears next to the mouse cursor when it's reading your CD-rom drive or loading an autoplay app, solving another usability problem... for some reason, it doesn't let you CHANGE that cursor, though. :(

    Uplink is one of the best games I have ever played.. $25 US well spent. I purchased it about 2 days after I heard about it on Penny-Arcade, and I haven't regretted it once. Even if you only play through it once, it's a highly enjoyable experience, plus free of all that violence and nudity that parents don't like. Nothing beats altering a criminal record to bear the name of one of your friends, adding tons of offenses, and sending them a picture... Fun for the whole family! :)

    Anyway, there ARE people who watch DVDs on their computers, and on HDTV's, buddy. Just because most people won't experience the improved quality doesn't make it worthless.

    Heh, no hardware imcompatibilities or driver problems? Like hell.

    Haven't you ever seen the N64 kiosks way back when, running rogue squadron? Every time i walked by one of those, it was jammed/frozen/crashed. And then there's the stories of the XBox crashing... and of course, there's always going to be third-party addons for consoles that DON'T WORK RIGHT.

    More seriously, I can't understand what nintendo is thinking. They have a console that would have been impressive hardware-wise about 1-2 years ago, and a set of games that is for the most part, unimpressive. (I admit that Zelda/Metroid are pretty nice though.) They can't rely on Mario and Pokemon to keep them alive anymore, and it shows - Most of the games people are looking forward to for gamecube are 3rd party games, with the exception of a select few.

    Honestly, I bet a majority of the parents out there who aren't half-assed drunken idiots would be glad to know that words like 'fuck' and 'niggar' won't show up in Word while their children are typing papers.

    Anyway, Slashdot does even worse - The lameness filter. You're saying that removing words from your thesaurus is censoring, but removing posts that appear to be spam, is not?

    Here at our office of CalTrans (the calif. dept of transportation), almost all of our machines are having the same problem: None of the Office 2000 applications will run. They sit for about 5 minutes in the background, taking up 2mb of ram and 0% of the cpu, and then start... and give strange errors about corrupted files when you try to open something.

    Related? My pc right here works fine, but it seems almost everyone else can't use office 2000.

    There's a lot to be said for the fact that he actually has BOTHERED to write all this shit. He could easily be working for some company and getting paid big bucks, no matter how lame-ass you claim his code is. You people are lucky Rob even made slash's code free open source in the first place.

    Personally I think a lot of the people in the open source community are idiots, and this is why.

    Why will people want to share their code if all they get is attacks on their character like this, all based around small fragments of code?

    Go find some child to molest or something. I'm sure you'll enjoy it more anyway.

    A bunch of 14 and 15-year-olds get all their CDs, rip them, and upload them to every free fileservice they can find, post the URLs all over the web, along with their email addresses, names, phone numbers, and home addresses, and wait for the lawyers. Then the lawyers can waste thousands of dollars trying to sue kids for giving away their music. :)
