We use the DTVPal, which was a DVR/Digital set-top box that was originally put out by Echostar. Now it's a Channelmaster product, but it is a stand-alone DVR that can record OTA on one channel and do live pause on another, or record 2 channels at once.
No external connections, no subscription. Only drawback is the guide if you don't have TV Guide On-Screen service on your TV, it just pulls the generic PSIP data from the signal. But still... it's been very nice to have.
AFAIK, they are checking the Flash version contained on these boxes, which is not a "regular" version found on desktops and other devices, so changing the user-agent in the browser isn't the solution. But I've yet to find a way to spoof the flash version (without recompiling)
My account's been working for a week.. I have a feeling they haven't been able to keep up with the demand.
It was working as of this morning, but now... I'm sure it's going to be toast for a bit.
Plus remember, they are racing against time. Wasn't the original goal for the million bucks was to get to the finish line in under 10 hours? So even if there was one team racing, in order to *really* win, they'd have to move at a pretty good pace anyways.
The first episode is commercial free. I remember reading how long a full season of "24" actually is, but I can't remember it. I'll have to look at the DVD set I got my parents of the first season.
It's not that hard. When I worked for a *major* DSL provider, well, I mean I worked for a company that had a contract to do tech support for a *major* DSL provider. It would be insanely easy to trick a customer into hanging up.. Just have them pull the DSL filter out of the wall with the phone they were using connected to it.
Not that I did that, but I know techs that would use that ploy to get a customer off the line.
Average Handle Times were about 19 minutes I believe.
Do I? hehe. I remember it was November 1990. And I recall that our high school had calls out to local farmers who were to report any suspicious behaviour in their animals and let school officials know, so they could cancel school if things were looking strange. A couple of friends of mine wore hard hats and brought video cameras to school that day. Ah memories.
Right!
Who is this, really? :) Love that album.

We watch what we want OTA from the networks, and with the help of an OTA DVR (DTVPal DVR) we "tape" what we can, and use Hulu for the rest.
I wouldn't worry about Blockbuster much longer. According to MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35910863/ns/business-us_business/ I'd be surprised if they've got a year left in the movie rental business.
This should have been in reply to an earlier thread higher up. Sorry.
It seemed to work for the Druuge in Star Control, right?

The download is still available. Both Mac and Windows versions are available.
Just downloaded it at 1:20 pm Central.
Myth had this mode back in 97-98.... It's not new.
I seem to remember around the mid 90's a funny site called Mirsky's Worst of the Web.
They would have links to odd and badly composed websites... Used to be my required reading when I went to the college library to surf the web.
I always enjoyed DJing at college a few years ago. I'm in the StL area, how do I get ahold of you?
That reminds me... I need to change the combination on my luggage.
Let's cross-pollinate something!

Star Trek: TI (Temporal Investigations)
A team of dedicated agents try to correct time anamolies in the lab and out in the field.
Where Bruckheimer when you need him?
Actually, they are based in St. Louis, MO.

AFAIK, it's always been "Wash-u" here in St. Louis. I guess this story has opened that particular abbreviation to the rest of the world. :)
