I saw your comment and attempted to raise the parent's mod up a bit, but oddly enough accidentally choose "Overrated" sinking it further into the depths of Slash. Just ignore this comment. I'm using it to get rid of my unfortunate moderation.
I brought my DS with me before getting surgery last Tuesday for a pilonidal cyst and honestly it didn't do anything to calm my nerves. Even while playing I couldn't get the painful future recovery out of my mind. In my case I could look more into the future then kids despite distractions.
That's a good point, but I wonder if companies which sell projectors use the before or after lumens when marketing them. I would have to hazard a guess that they rate them with the bulb strength before the LCD. If that's the case this DIY would still crank much more through the panel.
The best, but a bit costly solution is to buy a TIVO just for her. That way you don't have to worry about her show selection poisoning your TIVO selections. You can then output one on coax chn 3 or 4 and pipe the other one through a modulator (to give some channel seperation to prevent crosstalk) and out on say channel 20. Pipe both coaxes through a splitter turned backwards (combiner) and then split off to each TV in the house. You'll be able to watch either Tivo anywhere in the house regardless of what the other one is doing, perfect if you want to watch something other then "Who wants to marry a millionare". You may need to pick up a pair of IR/RF repeater pyramids to remotely control them.
I could see someone purchasing a single 6800 then after the price drops buying another for SLI on the cheap to get the speed of the new model cards that are coming out for $$$. I have to say that it looks like a pretty smart move from Nvidia to influence people to buy another Nvidia based card in the future.
One of the sticky aspects of the boosted flight is keeping the ship flying straight after passing mach one. It's a much more stable configuration then jet fighters but the lack of fly-by-wire makes it tricky to keep up. Certainly not impossible but probably a bit stressful for the pilots.
They were very luck during one of the tests. Apparently a trim surface stuck in a bad position and had they not been able to get it to move before re-entry the ship would have probably corkscrewed itself to pieces.
While it's much less of an issue now since there is so much of a demand for rides I wonder how cheap the flights can actually get. There are a lot of expenses involved... Pilot time, fuel for both ships, etc. I can't help but wonder if it will be decades before an average guy like me can afford it.
This has been bothering me for some time since I can't seem to find the story anymore but a long time ago someone posted a story link about a sole survivor of an orbiting shuttle or space station accident who used an Apollo-esk reentry shield to return to Earth. I don't remember the details apart from him up curling into a ball behind the blast shield and using some form of propellent to decelerate it to reentry speed. He had a tough time keeping it balanced on the way down and I don't remember where he got the parachute for the final decent. Does anyone remember the details or better yet the link?
Floppy disks are a fairly convenient way to look at the sun. In my experience it usually looks like a dim red LED. (Assuming that you remember to slide the metal guard first!)
I would say that being able to digitally transfer video to my computer is the only thing I miss about my Tivo. It's obviously possible to transfer to VHS tape but I don't want to move backwards quality wise. Right now it is possible to transfer stuff but it takes a bit of modding (adding an ethernet card) and a lot of linux familiarity to get it to work, something most casual users don't care to do. Fight the good fight TIVO!
So will this mean the end of GB's nifty backwards compatibility streak? The DS will work with older games but what about DS games with future GBs? I don't imagine Nintendo using two screens for all future handhelds.
I'm getting a bit off topic but.... Try adding some modulators to your mix. I've got 2 video sources in my living room (2x DirecTivo) that are piped throughout the house on different channels. Having both sources in the same living room lets me focus on having the best picture/audio in one place instead of spending big bucks throughout the house. You would only need 2 modulators even though you have 3 sources. Just use the built in modulator on one source to chn3 or 4. Make sure to seperate the output channels on the modulator by at least 5 to prevent cross interferance. Output each modulated source to a combiner (splitter run backwards) and pipe the cable to each TV in the house using a splitter. Once set up you can watch any of the sources at any of the TVs in the house at any time regardless of what the others are doing. All you have to do is turn the channel of the TV to match the modulated one. Since the TVs are likely in seperate rooms you will need a couple of IR-RF transmitters which can be had for around $40 a set for the pyramid shaped ones. Apart from the flexibility of watching any source on any TV, this makes it much easier to set up extra equipment like a security system.... Modulate the camera output onto say, channel 60 and you can tune into the security channel from anywhere in the house.
I hate to go off on a tangent, but one feature/bug about BF1942 that I really like is that if you hit the chat button while holding a movement button you can continue to move while typing a message. That really cuts down on boredom when running long distances and gives you a decent opportunity to strategize while otherwise doing nothing but run. It also makes you a slightly tougher target then while standing still!
My take on the best way to preserve data is keep uploading it into new formats (Tape->CD->DVD->?) to take advantage of larger storage capacities which will be necessary as stuff accumulates. Keep the old formats in a safe place so that you will have something to go back to if the older technologies last longer. When I buy a new harddrive, I copy everything from the old one and stash it intact in a safe place.
I've been playing BF1942 for over a year now. Most of the big problems I've seen with people (Team killing or blowing up a vehicle because you got to it first) have been with the mod versions of the game like Desert Combat and the like. I'm not sure why this is but ever since I started playing on Co-op servers I've rarely had any problems. People just seem to be more mature on the classic version.
I can see how trying to make this into a spectator sport is going to be tough just as it is with paintball. Many players want to be able to watch PB matches but this type of action just isn't formatted to be watched comfortably. Most popular sports have one main focus, the ball. In CS or paintball the action is all over the place and very difficult to get a good viewing angle on. If I were to watch either one (PB or CS), I would want to see it from the ground level slightly behind a player. That way it would be possible to see the strategy involved in shootouts verses an aireal view of people just plinking at each other. When the action jumps from one player to another it's very jarring and it takes a while to refocus on what is going on. I guess about the only way I could truely enjoy watching either PB or CS is to have a head-cam on each player and view the game splitscreen with enemies on each side. Even doing this it would still be necessary to watch the same game several time to see what was going on with other players throughout the field.

They must have crawled into Slashdot's -1 threshold cache.

Sacrifice enough people, or even just one in a high publicity service such as this one and it will affect the bottom line. :)

Glitches indeed!
It'll certainly burn more rubber then OJ Simpson.

Where are the windows? Maybe it's just me but I would like to see the planet I'm orbiting.
If they outlaw them only criminals will carry lasers!

I have the same problem with my 1st gen Philips TIVO. Hitting the Tivo button fixes it in my case.
You nailed it. Even my TIVO had a hard time keeping up. I had to micromanage it to ensure that all the eps were recorded.

The phrase is originaly from Night Court. A Russian fellow by the name of Yackov Smearnof was known for saying it all the time back in 1984.

That's an aweful large round up to $100. From the numbers in the article I got a difference of $67.06 between the cheapest and the most costly.
