I am not one to defend Corporate America, but if you were Eisner, wouldnt you do the same? If one of the cornerstones of your business were to all of a sudden become freely reproducible, wouldnt you try to stop that from happening?...
Will having "Steamboat Willie" (or any other equally old work) in the public domain really hurt the copyright holder? Is there really so much demand for Steamboat Willie tapes, DVDs, T-shirts, cereal, and whatnot that if it was freely available it would really affect their bottom line? Ok, I'm exaggerating slightly, but my point is some media company's (like Disney's) whole operation is not going to come crashing down if some near-100 year old work is in the public domain.

Yeah, it would be good for soldier folk and computer folk. Too bad it's useless to everyone else.
Um, lets see... truck drivers, pilots, police, just to name a few. Oh, and don't forget Quik-Stop clerks.
This is likely vaporware. The website hasn't changed in at least six months. I've been following this but I'm not optimistic. However, you say it comes out in April. Where did you see this?
Also, for me, in college, I knew two groups of people that tried to make their own cider. One guy had his explode, spraying apple chunks all over his apartment. The other batch din't blow up, and I got to drink some. It tasted ok, but I felt very strange the rest of the night... I wonder what was in it?
I'm rather tempted by the AlphaSmart Dana. Palm device with a real keyboard, 560x160 screen, ports, runs of AA batteries (which are even easier to come by than AAA)... Disclaimer: I've never seen one. They might be crap.
It's for real. Palm sells it themselves for $400.00. Not bad, actually... Look here.
hrm... I just realized that you are not doubting its existence, but rather its quality... that I cannot comment on.
heh, I remember that now. So much for my Starfleet Academy dreams.
btw, never mix Milwaukee's "Beast" Light (don't even ask) with Star Trek... hmm.. I wonder if the replicators know about the Beast in the 24th century, or if the computer just says "don't be a moron!" and gives you Sam Adams instead...
hmm... I think a 1:1 matter/antimatter ratio would destroy the ship (or at least burn out the warp core). With a 1:1 ratio, you'd get the most energy possible from such a reaction. With a 2:1 ratio, for example, all the antimatter would react and form energy, and 1/2 the regular matter would be left over... but maybe i'm wrong...
I believe the dilithium crystals are used for controlling the matter/antimatter reaction somehow, since they don't react to antimatter (something like that, but doesn't make much sense because I don't think anything can be "anti-matter agnostic", and Star Trek doesn't have much to do with the Real World anyway, heh).
I find the fact that the B-52 bomber has been in service for almost 50 years already pretty amazing. It first flew in 1954, and supposedly will still be in service well past 2045 (91 years... wow)
I have a Ricoh RDC-7 digital camera and it has a nifty document capture mode, where it takes pictures as B/W TIFFs. And with 3.3MP, you get a lot of detail. It takes decent regular pictures, too. Also does video.
You could probably send the document TIFFs thru an OCR, but I've never tried this myself.
Now anti-venom! Is there anything these miracle chickens can't do??
When they start crapping out caffeinated eggs, then we'll be on to something!
In SOVIET RUSSIA, the chicken venom is in YOU!!
And Bill Gates looks like such a nice guy. How can he be evil when he wants to save children in third world countries from AIDS?
Well, every AIDS victim saved is a potential Microsoft customer...
Guys, this thing isn't even for real. 1cm thick portable G4 system? I don't think so. Calm down.
"Serenity NOW!!!"

I mean, would could probably create ppl with 4 arms, or 2 kidneys right now, but we don't.
I don't know about you, but I have two kidneys already...
The students do not keep the computers, unless they finish two years in the honors program.
;-)
So this means that one would have a pretty good chance of getting someone's old iBook, full of pr0n and cached slashdot posts, right?
Maybe it would have been better, in the long run, to let them succeed... :-)

Time for a Natty Ice run methinks
:-P
*choke* *barf*

Isn't this redundant? Oi, my brain is entering an infinite loop thinking about this too much..
<CTRL-C>
that's better..
back to work
oops... Soviet Russia is already covered... I should read the entire post before replying :-)
missed another one:
- in Soviet Russia...
Seti@Home revisits YOU!
aliens scan YOU!
etc, etc...

I think mousemen are a great idea! The hot, stuffy Mickey Mouse suit would not be needed anymore. They could just hire a mouseman!
Now if they would only cross-breed humans and gophers, we could have a real Goldy Gopher...
whoops, misspelled 'ad' twice... I must have double-D's on the brain for some reason. Hey, it's Friday and almost quittin' time ;-)
It seems fitting that there is a Visual Studio .NET add on this page...

maybe I should have posted this AC... oh well

What good is Braille on ATMs anyway? (drive-in or otherwise). The screen is not Braille...
