My 17 year old nephew 'distributes' some of his music on MP3.com. I've looked. It seems like lots of people in his category (kid with lots of energy, some talent, etc.) 'distribute' their music on MP3.com.
Most of it isn't very good.(emphasis mine)
*snip*
Most of the P2P is stuff recorded in studios by RIAA protected musicians. Please be real.
Most of the stuff recorded by RIAA "protected" musicians isn't very good either. What makes you think the RIAA "protects" (owns?) all the good musicans? Why can't good musicians do their own distribution (via mp3.com or otherwise)?
I just recently read a novel with with some interesting parallels to what's going on with today's space program. Titan by Stephen Baxter deals with using modern (Shuttle) and Apollo-era technology for a voyage to Titan. It was written in 1997 but most interestingly it all begins with the destruction of the Shuttle Columbia. It's kind of a depressing novel, but very good and worth the read.
In a dimly lit machine room, Donovan is overwhelmed by rows and rows of ancient computers, each running a different OS...
Donovan: I'm not a geek; I have no idea! Which one is it? Elsa: Let me choose. Donovan: Thank you, Doctor. Elsa: It's this one! Donovan: Oh, yes, its more beautiful than I ever imagined!
Donovan grabs the mouse, clicks on "Start". He quickly ages and rots away...
> SPAM is just a tin of processed meat of unknown origin.
The origin is obvious. Here is Hormel's (the producer of SPAM, if you didn't know) business plan:
1. Hire a bunch of yahoos (a Beowulf cluster???); give them bats and lead pipes 2. Have them beat a dead horse until it is good and pulpy 3. Package pulpy meat in small tins 4. ??? 5. PROFIT!!!
That is the origin of SPAM. Of course, in SOVIET RUSSIA, this is reversed. The dead horses beat the people to a pulp with bats. Russian SPAM is PEOPLE!!!!
That said, I for one welcome our undead SOVIET RUSSIAN horse masters.
I have an Intermec 6651 Handheld PC. It runs Windows CE 3.0 (HPC2000, same OS as the Jornada 720), and it's great for ebooks. Its keyboard folds around behind the screen, turning it into a tablet. This combined with Mobipocket reader makes a great ebook reader. I just flip the screen around, and touch the left or right side with my thumbs or finger to "turn pages".
The screen is awesome, 800x480x16bit active matrix. Very bright (but of course useless in the sun).
Google it for more info... I've seen them on eBay for $350 or so...
RTA:Although in most cases it owns the rights to the books it has published, O'Reilly will release books under the Founders' Copyright only with the author's permission. The company is in the process of soliciting that permission, and 80% of the authors who have responded to date have agreed to honor the Founders' Copyright. O'Reilly is also applying the Creative Commons Attribution license to hundreds of out-of-print books, pending author approval.
to summarize, they will only adopt the Founder's Copyright if the authors agree, even if O'Reilly itself owns the copyright.
Well, I can't think of anything creepy at the moment, but my Kyocera 6035 Smartphone will occasionally start vibrating for no reason. Sometimes it will vibrate once, like it does if I get a message in silent mode, and keep doing that every few minutes until I reset it. But there is no message! Messages from the dead, maybe?? And once it just started vibrating constantly and nothing I did would stop it. I had to reset it.
Don't you need a skill (Spirit Speak?) to understand ghosts? i.e., when you're running around dead telling ppl this guy is a PKer, they just see "oooOOOoOOOo" or something, don't they? Or have they changed this? I have't played UO in about two years. Also, I've never heard the term "griefer" before... how is a griefer different from any other PKer? I guess I can just google it...
Most of that stuff isn't so bad... amazon.com, rice, translators, etc... and the above is probably an MP3 search. A band called Drowning Pool has a song called Bodies (Hit the Floor) (or mebbe its just Bodies). Most stations stopped playing that song for a few weeks after 9/11...
You can use Saran wrap and a hot-air gun (maybe a hair dryer will work too) to re-shrinkwrap things. I did this once to exchange a VHS tape I got for Christmas one year for the DVD version. I found out after I opened the tape that a DVD version of that movie was available, and Best Buy won't take back tapes that are opened. (I opened it, but didn't watch it, so it was still new)
2. Use of the Software. You acknowledge and agree that you shall not... (b) attempt to disable the Licensed Software by any means or in any manner...
Also, Active desktop panel will be installed on the users desktop which will enable active desktops on the system for special promotions.
So, it seems they have a self-contradictory EULA. Section 15 gives an uninstall link, but that seems to conflict with section 2's prohibition on disabling the software. So what exactly does the uninstall utility do? It's an extra download too. Why can't it just be removed with Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel?
And most annoyingly, they seem to have the ability to set your desktop background to some ad...

er, Type-R, I mean. It's only Thursday, I haven't woken up yet. :)
R-Type is a fun game, though...
22 miles? Psh. Had he the foresight to put R-Type stickers on his wing/fin/thing, he would have made it to London, easy.

almost forgot...
this SOVIET RUSSIAN SPAM is best served with HOT GRITS by CowboyNeal in the presence of NATALIE PORTMAN.
Also, IANAL, so YMMV.

Biking on public roads while wearing headphones is not only illegal in most cities, it is a good way to win a Darwin Award.
I'm reading this instead of working!!

This is heavy.
I came out here to post something, but I forgot what it was....

Thank you, sir.
I didn't think it was possible, but my brain has tied itself into several knots, and is now leaking out my nose.

Everyone has already mentioned the altered home page, etc, but here's some more fun:
From their EULA:

And if it's not scottish...
it's POOP!!!
They're not getting their grubby hands on a single dime with no feedback...
Try fitting a 3" cube in your pocket.
If you'll look at the pictures, you'll notice its a square, not a cube. One inch thick when closed. 3"x3"x1" is not bad.
