If the rocket blew up in our atmosphere, we would have had some serious issues to deal with. If there was a safe way to power the lander, you'd think they would have used it.
It helps companies plan for downtime and patching. Right now they give you a three day notice and this only tells you "something is coming in three days" and maybe the severity. If you can plan it out it makes for a smoother fix process.
Burning corn in our cars is a terrible idea. This causes the price of corn to rise, which means the poor and hungry people in troubled countries won't be able to afford corn. They probably meant well, but it turned out so wrong.
Those of you haters out there should actually read the book. You're all quick to judge something you know nothing about.
I've seen the author speak about this book, and I have read the book. It's an excellent book about cybercriminals and a huge takedown of a russian botnet.
I hear he is speaking at Defcon and Blackhat in Vegas. I recommend going to see his talks, they will be one that you don't want to miss.
You're more likely to get infected via a driveby attack anyway. Plenty of well known sites are being hacked through SQL injections. Malware is then served to you through the attacked sites. Malware/Virus writers have the upper hand at the moment, but I see this changing in the coming months.
Also: It is well known that AV is an outdated and obsolete technology. Malware changes so often (once a day or faster in some cases) that AV companies can't keep up with their signatures. Malware is now written to evade detection from AV products. There is no one paid or free AV/anti-malware that will keep you safe. There is also no way to keep your windows box tuned to be completely secure. cyber criminals make big money off of 0-day IE, FF, Acrobat, and Flash vulnerabilities... so you can bet they are using them.
For now, you can use a mac:) but we will see how long that holds true. The more popular macs become. the more attacks will start showing up.
This is one product that gives me hope that we can someday fight off malware: http://www.fireeye.com/products/4xx0/index.html "FireEye security appliances detect modern malware using real-time, multi-protocol content analysis within virtual machines." (and no, I don't work for them;))
And yes, you are going to get a virus/malware, unless you disable all USB ports, ethernet ports, modems, cd rom drives, etc.
I love weird stuff. A visit there always brings back so many memories. It's nice to live so close to it. The guys who work there are awesome also.
One time my friend went in there looking for some odd ball proprietary power supply for a HP pavilion. The guys from the back emerged with the exact powersupply within 5 minutes, and had tested it for us even.
Remove the battery, but leave the a/c adapter and cable. This way you will have a machine waiting for you to extract the data at a later date.
I would recommend saving a copy of the photos on the hard drive, a dvd copy, a cd copy, and also a usb thumb drive. that way all of your bases are covered.
If the founding fathers of our country were still here today to see what America has become, they would jump on their horses and ride away. far far away.
Just because the packets are coming from China doesnt mean they did it. That would have been an excellent cover up if someone was to compromise specific Chinese systems, and then route their attacks to the US sourced from China.
Also, if China did this... why the hell would they admit to it? That is laughable.
"lacking skills" that is also laughable. Every high school in the world has one or two (maybe a lot more even) capable "hackers" (I hate that name)in it.
You seem like a smart guy. You don't belong working for geek squad. Find yourself an IT computer support job at any office and you will be much happier. I worked for CompUSA for 3 months... it was a harsh 3 months let me tell you. The pay is horrible and the management is bad as well. I quit my job at CompUSA and started an IT support position for a local telephone company. It was basically the same work, but I didn't have to deal with annoying customers or managers as much for almost double the pay. It also allowed me to work my way up inside the company. I only worked in IT for 11 months before I became a network admin. two years after that I was a network engineer.. and its been only getting better since then. Now I work at a large networking company and when my PC breaks I call someone to come fix it:) (if I dont have the means to fix it myself of course:))
Start searching www.dice.com and www.craigslist.org for some new opportunities. You'll be much happier soon, keep your head up.
Bill Gates needs to pull his head out of his ass. One of these days he needs to accept he can be beat, has been beat, and to learn how to take his competition seriously.
Get a 10 gbit intel server nic, get two servers, each server should have 2 ultra 320 raid cards (each with 128+mb cache), four disks per controller, striped raid 0+1 (raid 0+10?) create a ram drive, and then write a script that copies a dvd (5+gbyte) from one pc's ram, across the network, to the other computers ram disk. see how many copies back and fourth you can do in a hour. then do the same test over 100mbit, and show them the dfference.
Yesterday I rebuilt my sisters windows 2000 machine. I installed gaim for her, and also ad aware then let her install whatever other apps she wanted.. The funny thing is, she called me later last night asking where she could download firebird because she hates internet explorer. I thought to myself, wow, how the tides have changed.
Creative Criticism: The DHTML or whatever is used to give the advanced editing features of Exchange 2000 web mail, msn hotmail, yahoo mail, and the geocities web site editor don't work in Firebird; If they did my sister, my mom and many other web users would never use IE again.

The secret is to out-crazy the crazy girl.
Facebook adds a stalker too? Seriously? apparently someone didn't get the memo.. Facebook is one huge stalker tool to begin with.

Someone should download the entire site and post it on bit torrent... then email this guy so he can put the bit torrent link on his site.
I feel bad for his poor server.. its about to get quite a few hits since this is now on slashdot.
This sounds like an easy way to get out of your contract lol. Thanks AT&T.

They wont need to install a root kit on our systems..... Our systems will come pre-loaded.
no joke.

What's a Zune? :)
Why does Slashdot taste like day old bread bought from the register.co.uk so often?

Windows has always had the advantage of having more drivers than Linux.
So I ask, why not create code that would allow you to use Windows drivers on Linux?
Now someone figure out how to install/program games onto the Ipod.. THAT will be very cool.
Today is the day our digital rights go completely downhill. If they aren't already gone.
Woohooo now someone can finally port win2k over to *nix.. oh wait.. nevermind.
