The powerful message coming out of the film was that we (and by "we" it's clear GNN means "the west", not america alone) are in a position to do something about the dangerous cycle of violence that is threatening what we have come to know as free civilisation.

So, when we're attacked, it's up to us to "do something" to "end the cycle of violence and revenge?" What "something" are we supposed to do, just let it slide, wave it off as "just one of those things we deserve?"

I enjoyed the "House" series very much. Far more interesting than anything in the original series after "Dune Messiah." I know the /. crowd is supposed to be universally negative about things that are popular, but the reaction to the Brian Herbert/Kevin Anderson team is just ludicrous. It reminds me of a cage full of monkeys tearing at the one thrown in who was dyed pink.

I guess it's just my quirk, I can read a novel without searching for "flaws" that I can later post about to justify my place in the naysaying herd.

Regardless of whether's there's an ice age in Britain, there's STILL A FUCKING systemic increase in temperature. It's getting hotter where the ice is, sport. Thus, more polar ice melts, not less.

Therefore, there won't be another "little ice age," if it's "getting hotter where the ice is." Correct?

"Refactoring" from FORTRAN to C is not hard, if you use a tool like "f2c" to process the FORTRAN source. I did that on a contract, and converted about 100 F77 legacy modules into C functions. The biggest problem I had was that they had written really bad FORTRAN, and it was faithfully translated into bad C code. There were lots of places where they were doing things like copying 55 characters into a 30 byte character array, which required me to do some rewriting of the generated C, but overall converting and repairing the code only took about 2 months total.

f2c is also good to use since the terms of use for their FORTRAN I/O workalike libraries is very very open.
