  1. TV is dead on Battlestar Galactica to Return · · Score: 1

They have run out new ideas for TV programs already, in less than 100years, now all we have to look forward to are more re-runs of the same old (paid for) shows all because TV companies won't take risks on new material.

There are millions of talented writers, authors, actors, musicians etc etc all hungry for the chance at getting their work out to the public and yet TV firms still keep re-using the same old stock formulas/actors until we become sick of them

Oh how far we have travelled in 100years of TV/Cinema when even kids are sick to death of old reruns

Is there no ambition or willingness left in the television/film business to create new and inspiring shows/stories that people will replay in generations to come as examples of pioneering work ?

plus with all this reliance on magnetic based media is just an accident waiting to happen, you do realise that if one EMR pulse from the sun (or even a EMP weapon) ever reaches Earth were back to square 1, sure us as humans can survive the magnetic dose of energy but all our data/research is gone forever all cos we chose to store our knowledge on a magnet.

Thats the whole point of these debunking missions you can't see the lander on the moons surface or the rovers, even with modern telescopes the size relationship between the lander and any earth based telescope is just too small its like looking for a grain of sand from 100,000 miles away.

I believe Japan is launching a mission in 2003 to photograph the moon (called LUNAR-A) from a hi resolution camera on a low orbit satellite , also a californian company is doing the same with a mission called Trailblazer which also should prove/disprove that mankind was indeed on the moon.
In order to see if someone is lying you cannot ask the said lier to show evidence especially if fabrication of evidence was an issue in the first place , that is why its probably a better idea for a independant non connected 3rd party to verify the accused lier's claims.

Of course this still probably wont be enough for the hoax/conspiracy believers as they will say NASA skewed the results or "tainted" the 3rd party.

You must remember, we live in an age of liers and fraudsters and no one is untouchable even a established science agency such as NASA or members of the American goverment, after all no one thought Enron or AC would be one of the biggest frauds in history so it is somewhat understandable that people don't believe everything they see

But for the "ignorant" masses an independant investigation will go a long way to dispell any doubts, especially from one by a country independant from that of the said "fraudsters", plus with any luck they might be able to complete some worthy science along the way.

During the initial registration process, we request certain information, such as name, address, e-mail address, and education, about you and other persons who live with you or have the same mailing address as you (collectively, we call this your "Household"). After you register, our Network then collects additional information about your Household's Internet behavior and that of any other computers used by members of your Household that you have configured to use the e-Trends service. This information is then combined with other e-Trends member data and other information to create an aggregate view of Internet e-commerce. e-Trends monitors your surfing, essentially logging information about the web pages that you visit and the actions that you take, such as the purchases and transactions you make. e-Trends can only monitor the Internet behavior and activity of your Household's registered and configured computers. As a member, you therefore control which computers the e-Trends service is available on. e-Trends monitors both the normal web browsing you perform, and also the activity you may have through secure sessions, such as when filling a shopping basket or filling out an application form. e-Trend's proprietary and patent pending technology allows us to see the details of secure pages while protecting such content from parties other than the site to which you are connected. We monitor these connections so we can accurately and anonymously model not only the browsing habits of Internet users, but also their shopping, registration, and other interactions as well. Although we generally monitor your Internet behavior as part of this service, e-Trends does not examine, use nor keep any instant messages or examine or use the contents of any of your e-mail messages, except to perform specific functions necessary to provide you the e-Trends service (such as scanning your e-mails to effectively search for viruses), and as a quality assurance check against and method for verifying information on the surfing and buying behavior of e-Trends members.

Michael Gondry speaking about his video for white stripes in an interview with RES ....

"I really like the basic-ness of the music - one voice, one guitar, and one drum. I like this concept, and I thought it was very close to the primary color of the Lego blocks." On the video's creation: "We shot a very basic video of the band [in London], we edited it and then we had a program that pixelized the video, roughly the size of the Lego blocks and then we printed each frame [25 frames per second] on paper. Then we had an animation team building up Lego blocks to match each frame. Then we reshot each of those frames on a film camera. We didn't have enough Legos to do more than five frames at a time, so after five frames were shot [the Legos] were demolished to build the next five frames."
The imagery is kinetic and jubilant. Audio levels thump, people swim, a walk sign says "go!", and the candy cane-colored White Stripes jam out.
To acquire this job, Gondry didn't write a treatment. According to Meg, "One day he came to a restaurant and he had Jack's head in Lego." Jack: "You couldn't argue with that. When someone brings a Lego sculpture of your head to dinner and says this is what the video's going to be, you pretty much say, 'That's it, go ahead.' " (credit)
"I've seen 'Star Wars' build-ups and huge model displays, but this is the most intense creation that I've ever seen done in Lego, and definitely the most creative and original," said Roger Cameron, a senior designer at Lego. "It definitely has that retro feel, because they used just the basic colors and pieces from 30 years ago. They didn't even use green or orange." (credit)
The video has won many, mostly technical, awards, including an MVPA Award, and 3 MTV Video Music Awards. Jack and Meg accepted the MTV Breakthrough Video award on Michel's behalf.

Their media player was working fine on version 6 and with the advent of their "realone" it is merely now a device to get you to their website and subscribe to their services, nothing more nothing less, a very targeted webbrowser if you will, on Windows it actually uses the IE activeX control as a core browser part of the player (including alert dialogs) which is probably why we havent seen a linux version (thank goodness).

The battle of the players was won long ago, its now about "web services" , Microsoft took a leaf out of Real ones's book and with Windows Media Player 9 they are now no different,

I have 8 buttons on the front panel of WMP9, 3 of those directly lead to windowsmedia.com and what they and their "partners" offer, plugins ? sure i gotta pay for those (unlike winamp) track identification ? via cddb ? nope MS want to do that so they can match me (with their unique player id (selected on by default of course)) with my music tastes and help their partners sell to me (via the msn network), of course RealPlayer has a unique ID option and 70% of the buttons on RealOne lead to Reals website.

I installed RealOne free player and i had a hell of a time losing all the spyware crap and firewalling their encrypted communications to the Real mothership and iam a "power user" imagine the millions of poor users who have no idea whats going on behind the scenes with their imho "private" data, after firewalling Real off the player became severly crippled and most of the functions wouldnt work without me being pestered to "upgrade" (translation: pay money to see their partners adverts) upon every boot Real would try to contact the mothership with encrypted data, spyware in the truest sense of the word

This is why the actual protocol source isnt released its the only thing that forces people to download their player to see streams, sure give away the player shell and server app source for free and when the user hits the stream with their old Real player 6 they are forced to get a modern player which will be RealOne, job done .

give them the glass pipe for free but the rocks of crack you gotta pay for.

It hasnt been about the technicalities of producing a better more efficient media player that can actually help the user for a couple of years now, its about how Real/Microsoft and their "partners" can increase their ROI and make us much profit out of each customer/punter/mug any way they can.

A point on the periphery of the disc will be moving with 213 metres per second, slightly more than half the speed of sound. Can the disc take that?
The answer is no. A powerful no.

At about 52x, i.e. 27,500 rpm, most manufacturer's CDs blew up in a rain of plastic particles, leaving their marks on the premises. The result was a pile of shimmering plastic chips."
