Honda have spent millions on research and development of their humanoid robot and nasa start from scratch again with what looks like an inferior product ?, Honda was at robonauts development status years ago , it seems a shame to ignore it and try to re-invent it, dont forget that they probably has more practical experience of robots in the commercial workplace than nasa do (car factories)
why dont they collaborate with people such as Honda instead of starting from scratch and wasting millions of dollars in the process ?
i presume Honda's goals are similar to Nasa's in regards to putting robots in hostile enviroments, i think its about time people took humanoid robots a bit more seriously than some do and start putting them to practical uses, sure there is the argument that they are not suited to those enviroments but hey we havent done to bad with 10 fingers 2 hands, legs and a torso and these research groups would probably agree.

is there any way to find out all of the subdomains at microsoft.com (or msn.com) ? ie: sa.microsoft.com windowsmedia.microsoft.c om msid.msn.com
or can they create subdomains that are completly secret (until found out) as i would like a list of every microsoft subdomain (and msn domains) so i can add them to the Host file project so they can be selectivly blocked ?
any help would be apreciated as i already have an extensive list of MS domains but i would really like to grab them all (and any future ones):)
Speaking as a experienced webdeveloper they could cut the bandwidth usage here at least in half by using stylesheets, removing whitespace in the source, and adhering to w3c standards in the html code , it would be quite trivial to convert and the time spent would == cash saved for the effort (and it would still work in lynx:)
we are always bashing people about standards , so why dont we take a leaf out of our own book and make this site/code/browsers use the technology available to us ?, it is 2002 after all not 1992.

This guy is actually a blind programmer !, not exactly Quake but big respect to him for not only creating games for the blind but programming them without being able to see his code!.
Its good to see people are exploring other avenues of our senses why restrict these games to sighted people
i mean why does visual gaming have such a priority over audio/tactile ?,why is it we like games without sound, yet without visual feedback is unthinkable ?
This is a neat intro [needs flash & v4 browser & Sound up] that won awards for creativness, giving you a insight into how blind people "see" the web, good example of provoking thought.
i went there and i wanted to see their privacy policy before i used the engine, but i had to actually use their search engine before able to see a link, this was after the site had tried to place 2 cookies on my system, one from teoma and one from a 1x1 gif webbug from askcm.com, after performing a search the webbug transmitted what i had searched for and a GUID to the askcm.com address as well in the form of a hash. nearly every way of tracking your behaviour has been implemented on their site.
Of course it does finaly provide (after using) it mentions they will take if they can personally identifying info and they share it with 3rd partys (with permission) (yeah right like yahoo/hotmail did)
On using Internet Explorers "privacy report" feature (which uses the webstandards w3c p3p privacy method) it came up as not supporting that either
pretty un-professional if i cant view a privacy policy before using their service, isnt that what its for ?
not that google is any different of course as it too doesnt support the w3c privacy standard and tries to set a cookie, but it doesnt use webbugs to thirdparty sites and set 2 cookies so i guess thats an improvement.
Looking at the toolbar they offer i have to agree to the the same terms as their website!, which seems strange as they expect me to install software without a explanation of what its gonna do to my system (spyware anyone ?).
Teoma (ask) is yet another classic venture of YOU are the product not the search engine so selling you to the highest bidder takes more importance than the technology ever will.
Teuma is not so much PITA (pain in the ass) to submit to but more of a CITH (cash in the hand) method of inclusion, meaning no cash = no listing
basically charging people to fill Teuma's database for them, not a lot of difference from those awful search sites you find , you know, when you happen to mispell a well known url and find yourself at a domain squatters site with popups and a search engine with "finance" and "loans" the most prominent links (as they are the most desperate they tend to pay the most) and when looking at the submission process it directs you offsite to a paypal https:// payment method paying some holdings company $29.99 in Guyana
Teuma is doomed for failure as soon as the cash runs out, and seeing that its a joint venture of ask.com (who no-one uses willingly) and themselves , it just seems a re-branding exercise for ask.com and a chance to promote their lame marketing tactics
The video or though not visible on the streamcast but visible on my TV (BBC) are overlayed with a fine transparent Airscan text logo which a quick google turned turned up a "Airborne Surveillance Security" company based in Murrell Road, Rockledge, FLorida
presumably its their equipment/responsibility/fault as they seem to be a 3rd party contractor for the US Army/Security, below is taken from their About page _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ AirScan was created in 1989 to provide airborne surveillance security for US Air Force launch facilities. During seven years of surveillance missions, AirScan supported every mission on time. AirScan has in-depth knowledge of the space launch program and the vital service airborne surveillance provides in supporting this program. Sensor aircraft equipped with infrared, TV, LIDAR, and multispectral and hyperspectral sensors operated by experienced crews using innovative tactics combine to form a responsive, dedicated airborne surveillance operation. The result is proven capability based on operational expertise, thorough planning, and carefully chosen mission objectives.
Over the years, AirScan has greatly expanded its capabilities to perform a wide range of airborne surveillance missions. We are currently conducting surveillance and remote sensing missions in Africa, Europe, and throughout the US in support of diverse governmental and private projects. We also remain under contract to NASA and the US Air Force in support of the space and missile programs. AirScan is under contract to the National Response Corporation to respond to any major oil spill in US inland or coastal waters. We also conduct maritime surveillance, ground security, wildlife surveys, research and development, and aircraft modifications and systems integration. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Why is this these computer cases are all looking more-or-less the same ? are these "case designers" that narrow-minded as to think i actually want a case like what they offer ?
It seems that attention to asthetics has not been ignored by some rack server manufacturers, making some cool looking 19" rack stuff (usually hidden from view) but they seem to think the regular consumer wants an ugly oblong box in a _____ colour that makes a lot of noise under my desk !
I would love a case that looks like a piece of hi-fi, something i could place in my component stack (as a media/coms device) and it wouldnt look out of place,my dvd, amp,cd,video, console etc are not in big ugly boxes so why should my computer be any different ?
At least Apple are trying to think "outside the box" and redefine how we see computers visually now why cant the pc-case manufacturers take a leaf out of their book and try and innovate case design instaed of churning out the same visual styles for 15 years
This is great news if there is water on Mars but i believe one of the major stumbling blocks on a manned mission to Mars and sustaining him isn't so much water but getting people there alive.
Astronauts just on the journey (180 days each way + 550 days for return journey planetary alignment) would be exposed to lethal doses of radiation meaning when they got to Mars they would already be too ill and poisoned to be of any use to science let alone come home, i don't really feel that comfortable in sending (volunteers) to die a horrible slow death from radiation sickness under the guise of "research"
NASA have did do some research in 1998 on using dirt for shielding on any base but this doesnt answer the journey time radiation exposure problem
I think we forget in our own insignificance that the ISS and the shuttle fly close enough to the Earth's magnetic field and our atmostphere to be protected from the worst effects of our Sun (radiation, flares, magnetic bursts,uv, etc) but once we leave for Mars we will be exposed to the Suns full destructivness and we still havent developed protective materials/shields (short of 6ft thick lead) that will protect us long enough not to kill us in the 915 day exposure of such a mission.
I am still suprised that we think we can send people there after water when so far all we have sent is a glorified "remote control car" instead of an advanced humanoid type robots like this into space,so maybe we could get a better idea of how we might perform if/when we get to the surface to mine this water.
because he took a photo of the landing strip he had made so that the rescue plane would have some idea of what condition the landing area they had to land on
