We should try to extend this to music especially downloaded music. Why is it that I can sell a used CD but, in some coutries, I can't sell a used iPod full of legally downloaded music? I suppose that's a definitive advantage of buying the CD vs downloading (on top of the quality).
I would argue that prior knowledge of the test images doesn't change my perception of them unless I am trained to interpret the results. Also, where does a psychiatrist/psychologist turn to when he himself needs metal treatment?
I would be very surprised if North Korea cared at all about the Internet and US government sites.
N.K. are testing LONG RANGE WEAPONS! I'm sorry but the culprit is most likely a script kiddie out of high-school with too much time on their hands and wanting to prove something to his l33t buddies.
Interesting point. So is slashdotting effectively a DDOS? The only difference is the intention and maybe the duration otherwise, the effect are almost identical.
Cats believe they are human and wonder why the heck we don't all eat at the same table. In fact, they even bring in food (freshly killed birds, mice and other critters). However, my wife freaks out when they do, so they now stopped. Devolution if you ask me.
sure, as long as you use washable ink. After an attack, what has changed except delay access for a few and more cash in the pockets of IT security contractors?
I'm Catholic yet I don't believe the earth is flat. Since I wasn't alive back then, I don't know if the earth was flat or not. Maybe, back then, the earth was in fact flat. Your dad and probably yourself also believed that the earth travels in circles around the sun. That is of course false, we know today that the earth travels in a straight line in curved space-time.
There is no such thing as a right-wing nut. Are they not useful in moving your own political agenda forward. So if you vote for the same person than the right-wing nut voted for, you are yourself a right-wing nut. Scary isn't it.
I would argue that these are not attacks but free speech (as in freedom of expression). Sure, some security sites will be down, that's just the way it is. A mDDOS attack, assuming this is going to be their method, is just like free speech but through the mouth of your NIC card. Ok it's more like yelling but all they need are good earplugs.
We often have Indians tribes who block major roads in order to make a claim. Ok, they get sometimes get arrested but more often than not they are listened to. To me this is no worse than PETA's or Greenpeace's actions to raise awareness. Unfortunately, in this case, I'm afraid that big profit will prevail.
I suppose a 3D image is only true if you can see it in 3D. Since your monitor is 2D, it is in fact a very impressive 3D simulation. If you visit the site, you will see that there are some problems but overall, looks very interesting. Maybe the future of pr0n.
Easy, through innovation and distinct added value. Shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out but apparently it does. Recently, our ISP decided to offer a brand new service allowing you to double your bandwidth simply by adding another DSL line. Guess what, they are now the fastest growing ISP in Canada.
Schemes like DNS redirection are a scam and should be banned unless they contain no advertising or indirect revenue generation whatsoever.
I bought a gps to get from Ottawa to Disney World. Got me there alright except the gps guided us to the staff's entrance and not the general public entrance. The man at the gate was wonderful and gave us pins, a bit of fairy dust a local map and then he sent us on our way. We ended-up with free parking on top of that. The lesson I guess is that sometimes it pays to get lost.
Idiots with money. Isn't it what it's all about? The point is getting people to buy what you tweet about. Having enough followers can be worth money. So with enough followers your tweet can go something like "gee, I'm stuck in LA traffic again. But my new Lexus makes it so much more pleasant." Lexus get also the tweet and sends you $5.00 for the publicity.
Look, this is how it works: I'm asked to find out what COBIT is. Naturally, I google it and find a hit in Wikipedia. From there, I get a fairly comprehensive idea of what it might be - with external links that I don't bother to click. I then explain to the team what COBIT is and tie it in with our business objectives. The team then might want to investigate further or get certification if it is a requirement for the job.
Now, I'm not sure what you mean by trust. I do trust that the information I gathered on COBIT is as accurate as I needed it to be at that time. Now, if I am an MD and need to prescribe a drug to a patient, I certainly would not trust Wikipedia for the dosage. I'd look it up in a medical reference on that medication and published by the drug company.
So for 90% of decisions, IMO Wikipedia is no worse than using last year's edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Maybe you include the cost of insuring a car against theft in the TCO. I do. Samething could be done with malware. Malware authors are attempting to "steal" your money (using DDoS, client information, credit card numbers, etc.) through the Internet. Using certain type of systems would add to the cost of this insurance.
The question should be: if you were an insurance company against malware damages, what would be your premiums for IIS vs APACHE vs other? Assuming they each are managed by diligent IT professionals. Actuaries would need to be involved but my guess is MS systems would cost more.
Our health care system is sucking badly now. We need more MDs and more nurses and less sick people. There are just too many smokers who are dying, too many old people needing palliative care and too many baby boomers on anti-depressants.
the cobalt has to be arranged in a hexagonal close packing structure to ensure the stability of its magnetic field. Otherwise the field can spontaneously reverse and the data is lost.
So one day the atoms might just realize that they've been tricked and you'll end up with your computer on fire because your benzene chains have all broken and you end up with 2-methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene
Yeah, and not to mention that cobalt atoms can be very nasty if they decide to isotope themselves. Will the EPA to allow them in PCs?
Yet, in 3000 years, some rich dude idiot's son is going to ram his spacecar into a piece of space junk left over from a NASA mission and die. His father will sue NASA for an obscene amount of spacedollars and win. I think due diligence should be part of future space missions and include an way to guide the dying spacecraft to closest star or blackhole.
Does Detroit qualify as a city? Not that the GP should move there but I heard the population all moved out to the suburbs and has now dropped from 2 million to less than a million.
It will be glorious!

I stand corrected. My point should have been on geocentricism (not flatness).

The point here is that new information was presented which might help find the real "bad guys." I don't see how this "beats" the first report.

I thought the bang in front meant "not."

Of course since it's God who created evolution by natural selection.

seriously, why Yahoo?
Probably because Yahoo shares a higher percentage of their revenue with them.

It'll happen, you read it here first!
