And, a properly configured firewall fixes alot more then just those little issues for ANY system. You make it sound like linux doesn't need a firewall.

  6. Even comparison? on "Budget" Chips go Head-to-Head · · Score: 1

Does anyone find it odd that the comparison is between a chip that was _designed_ to be a budget chip (celeron) and a _flagship_ chip (AMD XP)? It seems like a very stupid thing even to dream up that test. This woud be like comparing the Pentium 4 2.0 with the celeron 2.0. Of course there's going to be a major preformance on the pentium over the celeron because the pentius was _designed_ to be a maximum preformer. A more even test would to exclude the AMD XP processesors and use only Durons.

Dont whine by saying "But the AMD XP's are cheaper!" Well so what. Your still tipping the scales just be using an old top of the line chip with a budget chip

Admit it--you're just too lazy to supervise your own children. Take responsibility! If your children are playing such a game, and you don't want them to, TAKE IF OFF THE COMPUTER! It's easier than just complaining to the world about how you still haven't become an adult yet. Until the age of 18, parents have ultimate rule over children whether they like it or not. Stop letting other people raise your kids.

BTW I've NEVER just 'stumbled' upon 3D Realms' website. And video games did NOT cause Columbine. If you paid any attention to the news then, you would have discovered those two kids were teased by other kids who had no discipline. (No offense to those who died or were involved, rest their souls.) People cause people to kill each other, not games. You obviously are not a gamer, or else you would know you can't shoot like a sniper or blow up walls like in Hitman 2 or > in real life. Teach them well when they're real young, don't shield them, or they won't know what they're NOT supposed to do or what the consequences will be.

If you do that, you wouldn't have this violent game 'problem'. I'm proof of that: I've seen Faces of Death 1-3 between the ages of 8 and 12, and never ONCE have I killed, injured, or in other way harmed another living soul. And I only saw them about 15 min a day since they both had two jobs. I'm sure you've got 15 min to spare.

And stop complaining about kids! You're giving my parents a bad image!

I personally think that we shouldn't be looking for titles at the moment but looking at separating the fads (.net, I hope) to technology that is here and will most likely still be here in 5-10 years (a serving of C anyone?). Here are the topics that I'd like to see in a library.

    Programming theory (OOP or otherwise).

x86 architecture theory (Hey its been here for over 15 years why not longer).

Algorithms, not in any particular language but just the "how-to" for problem solving.

UNIX and w32 (I'm sorry but I just don't see it dying any time soon) programming theory and structure.

For languages I'd try to limit it to languages that are still widely used (i.e. c/c++) and languages that just wont die (i.e. COBOL).

A good terms Dictionary or two would be nice too.

    And Thats my $.02
