So all OpenSource can offer is great all in one OS's and the possibility in future to easily roll your own devices. If more hardware manufactures come into light then things will change very rapidly. Microsoft would evaporate over night. MS does have a habit of pissing off manufacturing developers like IBM so this will most likely occur in the next 10-20 years. The more people MS pisses off the faster the crash. And what a crash it will be, it will make Mt. St. Helens look like a fire cracker!
There is another problem with non-savy NT/2000 users. If you use broadband and do not know enough about modem highjacking then you are really at risk. Read the Telus reports about this problem. It is mostly kids seeing if they can make free local phone calls in other cities. They even reverse the thing, by phone freaking and try to come in through the modem and out by your net! If you are getting inexplicable incoming computer handshake requests on your land line, from 1-800 numbers, then you are a target. I use Linux and it is a hoot to watch pinging ports wonderland.

The best MS garbage shredder is the bsd dd program. Apart from that the best way to take care of saved docs is to not use the same partition for disposables. Make your doc partition small and if you delete docs and keep it 80% full all the time then as you defrag it it will keep overwriting the same area on your drive. Use cds for essential backups and keep Windows temp small. There is good software to automate this process. Splattering confidential word docs and email all over your harddrive is rediculous and not very smart. But who says one has to have brains to run MS Office. I have come to the conclusion that MS could care less about info security, except for their source code. Cfdisk is also a great program for making Windows security effective, and Linux dd works wonders.
So using VMWare is the best option for Businesses that really want info security, because you can easily wipe your ass with the Linux tools. Then you have the ability to wipe your drives and sell your used office equipment yourself. I have seen confidential medical info on old harddrives from doctors offices and know that Windows security sucks. I have a friend that found important legal briefs on a murder case! When will you guys learn.

The unfortune thing is that the MS API has to be aped. Here is an example the QT tools and KDE are really better served in their default style, and if you have the knowledge capacity to use 3 botton Irix style the Unix style interface is the best. Right now as I sit at my MS boot and type this I could just as easily boot into Slack KDE and use a Unix API. It would cut and paste faster and do scientific notation right out of the box. I would not have to go out and buy an enhanced version of MS office to do it.

I know this sounds crazy but the protocols are the problem. As long as there is no way to certify return addressing spam will happen. Solicitation lists just do not work for this very reason. I personally do not reply to or even consider spoofed mail. I never use html links that come in mail even if the reply address is authentic. If the person sending me mail cannot give me their real address they can go suck wind. I just wonder, if e-mail dies what will replace it? Ask Bill he has the answer, fascist style computing. Maybe this is why we have the MS worm, virus, software security problem. What a wonderful way to sell secure computing and make so called 'trusted computing' mandatory. The maps are PDF so it appeals to my computer senibilities. The site does not include navigational info unless you can read coordinates, so it is useless to dummies. All in all it is the best map site on the net.
