I just upgraded from WinME to WinXP Professional, and all I have to say is "WOW!". Seriously, this is pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Linux ever having a chance on the desktop.
You got the proven stability of Win2K coupled with the multimedia/gaming capabilities of Win9x, who could as for more?
Think about it this way: Windows + Office comes out to like $0.70/day if you figure licensing costs over two years. Hell, if you go the Linux route, you'll be able to buy your employee's a half cup of coffee a day with the money you'll be "saving"! Not to mention all kinds of incompatibility issues, voulenteer-written software, and no ease of use. The bottom line is, Unix/Linux networks are more expensive and difficult to maintain, with practically no benefits.
Seriously, Linux has it's place: embedded devices, serving web pages, and CS classes. On the desktop, no matter how hard people try to improve, it will always fail.
