iPhones and cell phones in general do not cost less than this.
Cell phone are subsidized by the carriers in order for you to buy service. In the razor and blade analogy cell phones are the razor and the service is the blade. The cell carriers lose money on the phones to make money on the the service.
The real solution is don't encrypt individual file. Encrypt the whole disk including free space. Takes awhile to initially encrypt but not a big performance hit on use.
Apple actually slowed the widespread deployment of Firewire due to their licensing. IIRC they wanted 1 dollar per firewire chip when then chip cost under a dollar to manufacture.
That came from Chuck Yeager's autobiography. There was a line worker at the factory that was installing bolts in the wing that were supposed to be place head down/nut up. The worker was installing them head up/nut down contrary to the instructions because "that is the way bolts are supposed to be installed". IIRC he killed 6 people because of his ignorance.
Recognize when your employees cannot complete a task, or make a deadline. Then help them.
What really needs be added to this is: If they are consistently unable to complete a task that is within their control by themselves or with your help, get a new employee.
Too many times mangers are reluctant to replace incompetent/lazy employees.
If the user actually intentionally installed Gator and Dell directed the customer to a spyware removal site, Dell would be responsible for that customer violation Gator's license agreement. I don't see a problem for Dell if they told the customer to back up their important data and drop in the recovery CD then reinstall any additional applications. The end result would be a spyware free computer and Dell would not have intentionally directed the customer to violate Gator's license.
I'm confused. According to what Bruce said I must distribute source whether it is a derivative work or not. If is distribute a product that runs Linux what do I have to distribute, assuming I take a standard kernel and make no changes or if the only changes are compile time options? I see making compile time changes as not making any changes to the source and thus they don't require any distribution of the changes. What is the case if I make a change to the source such as WIDGETS=2 instead of the default WIDGETS=1? Would I have to distribute the original source and the diff which includes my change? Is it sufficient to just provide a link on my website to the kernel.org tarball or do I have to host the information myself?

Bluetooth will become much more popular as automakers integrate it into their cars to act as a speakerphone for cell phones. The 2004 Toyota Prius, Acura TL, and Mercedes E55 all have in integrated Bluetooth as an option. It will only be a matter of time till it is offered as an option on a wider array of cars.
This scariest this:
(5) he cannot associate with any person or group that seeks to change the government in any way (be that environmental, social justice, political, economic, etc.)
Actually, MS is losing money on the Xbox. That is assuming the financial information they release is real. Their business model is to sell the hardware at a loss cost to make money on the games. It is really very common is the business world to do things like that with complementary products. For example, my dad worked for a company that sells circuit breakers. Their goal was to sell load centers (breaker boxes) at a loss to make money on selling breakers. The lost 50 million on the load centers but made 200 million on the breakers. It is a viable model if you do it right.
MS failed because they didn't lock down the hardware enough to prevent people from making changes so that it would be possible to run stuff other than Microsoft approved apps.
There will be no keyboard innovation until some one is willing to pay for it. Most people buy keyboard as an afterthought with a new computer. I wish I could count how many time I have seen someone buy a $1000+ computer and a $40 mouse to pick up the cheapest keyboard they can find in the store.
Personally I like the layout and feel of the old IBM Model M. I just wish had a "windows" key. Think of it as another meta key.
I recall taking an Microsoft Networking Essentials class that I dropped out of. The reason why I dropped the Microsoft class was because we were being taught about the existence of Routers, File Servers and other networking topics, but we never saw or [worked with] any of them.
Of course you didn't deal with routers and other networking equipment, it was a Microsoft networking class. Like most OS vendors all they care about the network is that it is attached to the computer. Once your computer can talk to the default gateway; that is as far as the OS vendor needs to go.
This is FUD generated by the DOD. The FCC limits the EIRP (equivalent isotropically radiated power) of the ISM band used by 802.11. The allowable power levels for 802.11 are 1 watt using an omni-directional antenna and 4 watts for a directional antenna. I doubt the tinny amount of power these devices emitted will interfere with military radar.

I the 3 years I have owned mine it has been through an X-ray machine roughly 300 times. It still works.

Not really a review site but a good listing of personal colo sites. Personal Co-location Registry
An even better book than that is "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli.

I've heard that this is legal, and then from others that it clearly violates the ADA
