Couldn't agree more... they completely alienated their core following when they dropped the Boxee Box. I wouldn't go within half a mile of anything they produce ever again. Thanks so much for the boxeeplus link!
..it's the publishers. Most publishers will only play it safe, sticking to established brands and themes. I'm sure there are a hell of a lot of game dev studios out there with great game ideas, but what's the point if no-one will publish it?
Playing devil's advocate, perhaps the publishers have a point. Today's game-buying community loves franchises (FIFA, Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda), loves playing the same game over and over again (CoD) and virtually ignores great new games (Enslaved, Bayonetta).
Try hunting out Locomotive Software in the UK, who helped me retrieve some data from Amstrad floppies some years back. I think they produced a lot of the original software for Amstrad. Er, not least the built-in BASIC interpreter!
Actually that's false. When the Amstrad first came out, 5 1/4" drives were the norm. 3 1/2" drives were available but expensive and not at all the standard.
Of course even if you got the drive connected to your PC OK still the problem would still be to get your PC to recognise the AMSDOS file system on the floppy. Not true. It's much easier to create an image of the disk, then load that image into an Amstrad emulator. The Amstrad already reads AMSDOS quite well.
It can't help if Joe Public are seeing stories about HD-DVD's "death" almost daily. From a neutral point of view, it looks like the formats are still neck-and-neck, at least in the UK. HD-DVD has far cheaper players, but Blu-Ray has more software. However I doubt that the companies in charge of film production are going to let the customer decide.
Your argument seems to rely on it being common knowledge that anti-phishing tools will send your entire browsing history to third parties. This is rubbish - most people will just install such a tool because it "makes browsing safer" and not read the small print where all of your cookies will be sent to Google/Microsoft/the US government.
This being Firefox, a browser generally considered to be more secure and trustworthy than the major alternative, it is worth a story.
No reason to go graphical. Except that it immediately alienates the standard user, reinforcing what they've heard over the years that Linux is horrendously complicated and difficult to understand in comparison to that nice Windows operating system with the big buttons.
FL studio has gold ranking in the Wine application database, so no problems there. With full ASIO support? From a quick search, it looks like it's not supported on Ubuntu. I (an I expect many others) couldn't use FL Studio without ASIO.
I do this. It's much easier just typing (e.g.) "yahoo" into the address bar than www.yahoo.com (or worse, http://www.yahoo.com/). It's even easier than searching through a huge list of bookmarks.
If it wasn't for zoos and animal preservation programmes then lots more species would be extinct than currently are. The point of capturing ultra-rare creatures is usually to sustain their presence on the planet rather than to extinguish it.

I went through the whole article waiting for Lander to be mentioned. It surely was the best bundled game of all time.
Bloody hell, it's Richard Fairhurst! Where did I put those back-issues of Amstrad Action...

Agreed. If my mother-in-law wants a free photo editor, I'm hardly going to mention the GIMP!
If I have to install a plugin, it's not part of GIMP's functionality at all is it?
I wish more SACD and DVD-Audio discs were available. The improvement in quality over CD/well-ripped-MP3 is mind-boggling.
> Silly sensationalism. nothing more.

He can start the nuclear reactor.
If you're using >=600 minutes a month then I'd be more worried about the cancer risk than the cost of your price plan.
My IDE and SATA cables aren't gold-plated. They seem to work just fine.
Taking measurements at two points to find something is surely why they call it triangulation.
Me too.
Having said that, 270ukp for a fast 32Gb drive isn't as silly as it sounds. I can certainly remember 10,000rpm Raptors selling for similar prices.
Wow, you only had to patch the source code and recompile? Looks like WINE really is ready for the mainstream!

Congratulations, you just won this year's "Most Stupid Post On Slashdot" award. You can pick it up from our office in Pyongyang.
