Why should Xvid need to do this when no other MPEG4 codecs are able to do it? MPEG4 is CPU-intensive. It will aiways be.

I call bullshit. Mozilla and other alternative browsers makes all the difference, since they don't contain the pool of bile that is ActiveX. That some spyware authors try to exploit holes doesn't mean anything, since the Mozilla developers are actively fighting and closing these holes, in contrast to Microsofts IE team that still hasn't closed even the most obvious holes.

And I really find your java trojan story quite unlikely. Sure you didn't get it from somewhere else? Got any documentation that java trojans that install FTP servers even exist?

The problem with linking feedback to item cost is that it will be very easy to 'buy' feedback. Just team up with a friend, make a fake auction for maybe $1000, and you suddenly get quite a good feedback. Sure, it costs you whatever percentage ebay takes, but that's negligable if the resulting feedback ratio enables you to commit large-scale fraud.

It's a bit hard to claim innocence when you're caught with a running camcorder pointed directly at the screen.

Really, I don't see a problem with getting a fine or other minor punishments for being caught red-handed. The problem is that the current law makes it a jailable offense just to have a recording device, any recording device with you, no matter if it's used or not.

There is a big difference between someone making a copy for their own use and someone making a copy so they can then make 10,000 copies to sell on the street, so let's have the penalties be different.

Not that I think the penalties for bringing a camcorder into a cinema are just, but exactly how many people do you know that record movies in a theatre just for their personal use? I think it's quite obvious that if you bring a camcorder with you, you plan to do a bit more than just watch the movie back home.
