Because it doesn't work that way. From what I've heard GNUstep can't handle.nib files, so you'll have to completely remake the interface of the app. There's no way you could just doubleclick on a OS X x86 application and it would launch in GNUstep right away.
Also, with GNUstep it's easy to make Apps that port to Cocoa on OS X, but the reverse is not always the case, since GNUstep is still mostly based on the OPENSTEP API which has changed considerably since the OPENSTEP days.
>The dev machines being sent out right now to developers are pentium 4s.
Could that have to do with the fact that the next generation Intel CPUs are not available yet?
I just checked out the Intel roadmap for some future Desktop CPUs with multiple cores and the new single core Yonah for laptops and somehow they are all scheduled for early 2006. How come Apple wants to sell the first Intel-based Mac in June 2006? coincidence? synchronicity? A cry from the chrome plated megaphone of destiny?
For me the big problem is that with X11 programmes on OS X, I haven't been able to get Japanese input working on X11. I installed wnn and others and never got them to work in X11 in OS X.
I was hoping so badly that at least by now Apple would have X11 made work flawlessly with whatever OS X input method was selected, but alas this isn't the case.:-(
Or port the Open Source free as in speech MacOnLinux/MacOnMac and call it WhateverTheFuckOnMac and run Windows and Linux natively in a Window on your Intel Mac OS X Desktop.
What about China? Considering how few people can actually afford a Computer with an Internet connection there one might tend to believe 100% of Chinese computers are 0wned!
I am a video professional and let me tell you, I've seen no pro using Premiere anywhere. Especially now that the newest versions only run on Windows.
I've once tried to use Premiere professionally, because of the low price and it was a disaster. Stability was bad, user interface was very inefficient etc.
Premiere is now used by the wannabe pros (=not professional enough to make the money to buy FCP, but they want a software package that says "pro" on it;-). And the real pros use Final Cut Pro or Avid.
"As opposed to Windows users who love ugly, non-functional stuff? "
Actually make this: ugly, non-functional stuff als long as its CHEAP or it says on the package that it's CHEAP or as long as everybody else is using it, too, so it must be good
Windows XP proves that thesis. If you tried to be funny, I'm afraid you've just been very true and sad...
(you mean you give up the handwriting stuff because it's too unreliable and buy one of those foldable keyboards and then start wishing you'd had a fullsized one)?
Of course being entrenched on doing things the Linux way and then using Mac OS X the first time for a few hours without any introduction whatsoever you are predetermined to give us an unbiased report on usability.
It's always nice to see great journalism like this on Slashdot.
P.S.: It's hard to find anything cheaper AND better than the current iBooks or even PowerBooks (you can always get less for less mony, though)
Didn't know that the Pegasos is made by Apple. Thanks for clearing this up!

Europe has the most deadly strike force on earth:
British hooligans.
Just tell them the zombies are from the 'other' team and the matter is sealed.

platz?
In German that's the command to have your dog sit down: "Platz!".
So, there you have it, we're Microsoft's Rottweilers. Those Bastards.
And pay even higher prices than Macs used to cost in the eighties? Naaah.
Just get OCSmart hacks. Haven't tried it on 10.4 but it used to work fine under 10.3

Even Macs can't keep you from being stupid and/or blind.
Well, the next one actually has been out for 28 years.
Actually it is Vogon.
I wish he would have gotten a Darwin Award. We really don't want his genes contaminate the human gene pool.
I wish him best luck next time.
Well if it does arrive earlier, clearly it must be a faster version!

What's your point?
Can you run a native version of OpenOffice.org on Linux without dealing with X11?
Not much if you don't choose to build your own.
And build your own is always cheaper than buying from a brand vendor, so please don't compare the two.
