Honestly, if your concern is that democracy is being subverted by your employer's policies of mind control you may want to just work elsewhere.

and say "lesbian porn" loud enough for a coworker to hear, she can sue the company for sexual harassment over the creation of a hostile workplace environment
Honestly, if you live in a country where someone can sue you for saying 'lesbian porn', you may want to just live elewhere.
It's just that if google were the only search engine and effectively censoring results or using paid ranking, we would never know.
Google may not be evil (i like google!), but at the moment google _is_ the internet for a lot of people. If they can't find it with google, it doesn't exist.
Also according to the MSTECH bulletin:
Will Microsoft eventually set the Kill Bit on this control?
Yes. Microsoft is developing a new technology that will enable it to set the Kill Bit on the vulnerable version of the control without forcing users to re-author web pages containing references to these controls. When the new technology is available, we will ensure that this fix uses it.
So.. Microsoft is developing technology that can/will deactivate controls a user has explicitly downloaded and trusted.
And -as it implies- replace it with a new one without the user knowing.
That's just great! It'll be a source for completely new virusses when (not if) this 'new technology' gets cracked.
consider dropping a Media Center PC.. now that would be a waste of money.
Seriously.. i copy my cd's because i want to listen to them at home, in my car and at work, and do not want to carry them around all the time. Not as some kind of backup scheme, because that's what i have insurance for.
thanks for that link! I always wanted to support opera, and $19 is a great deal. (where did you find that link btw? it does not seem to be on opera.com anywhere)
IANAP (programmer), but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of palladium?
If software (the OS) can disable the security features, the whole scheme is just as strong as the OS. So how would that protect windows users any better than is does now?

It's a make money fast technique.
The company will sell the right to email me for 3000 a month, and collect $$$ from some stupid newbie spammer that was incapable of hiding his tracks.
Wonder how long untill these copyrighted headers score +100 in my spamassassin settings.

MS will continue to support XP/.NET after 2006, because New Orleans (and all other cities that "can pull it off") refuses to update. As soon as the very first exploit goes public (my guess is the first week after MS drops support for XP/.NET), New Orleans will pay $$$ to any company that can upgrade them to Windows ZP.
But i guess nobody fears a RedHat lock-in. If after some time NO decides they want to move on, they could choose from several other vendors and keep using the same open source applications, with all their data intact, and in open formats.
1. write virus
2. hack innocent pc, leave source code, spread virus
3. turn in innocent pc owner
4. Profit!!

All the mods on crack today?
What we _should_ be discussing is world peace, starving people, dying nature, that kind of stuff.
But we're not, we are discussing mp3, so i fail to see how parent is not modded -1 offtopic.
i'd say that excluding cheaters is a good way to provide quality results.

Imagine that turning into a 'abusive monopoly'.
