    Parent posting is Insightful!?!?, If you haven't even used the both calculator, how can you comment on 'the HP way of entering simple algebra'

    Open your mind... You should never be afraid to try something new... In HS, I too laughed at the bizarre RPN that was used by HP calculators, but as I continued studies in college, I gave RPN a chance, and found that it was definitely with the learning curve. Problems in Engineering and Physics were much easier with the HP then they would have been on a traditional calculator.

    Once you get into industry, are you going to tell your manager, no I don't want to learn to do that, it seems like a pain in the ass?

    I'm sure everyone here has seen the StarTrek NG eposide where those tiny creatures got lose on the Enterprise, almost totally messed up the computer, and Data started having those bizarre dreams in which Sigmen Fruad(?sp?) kept saying 'Kill Zhem... Kill Zhem all...' (Strong German Accent).

    I double checked a few posts, and they mentioned that the 60GXP was much more reliable.

    Microsoft IS pushing for companies to upgrade, haven't you see the MS new licensing issues posted many times here on slasdot?

    Do you know that there are two different versions a 'Home Edition', and 'Professional'? If you have a Win 9x /ME system you can upgrade to either Home Edition or Professional. If you have NT/2000, you must upgrade to Professional. The upgrade price is $99 (home) and $199(pro).

    I don't know which ads you are looking at, but the front page of the CompUSA Flyer has the 2 different XP's...

    I'll bet the benchmarks were run with the settings adjusted for best look.

    Wrong... If you would have read the article, it says:

    "Performance was measured under both default and optimized versions of the Windows user interface. For optimized testing, the animation and font-smoothing features of both OSes were disabled, as was Windows XP's System Restore feature."

    Did you even read the article... they using for their servers, since it's virtually identical to other Unix boxes they can hire any trained unix sysadm..

    Notice the "per six-sector cell" in their press release: "up to 192 megabits per second per six-sector cell".

    The way I read this, is that a single cell (made of 6 sectors) can support 192 Mb/s, thus each sector would only be 1/6 of that speed (32 Mb/s). In most cellular systems, a user accessing the system would be only connected to a single sector so that MAX that a user would see would be 32 Mb/s.

    Not much better than 802.11b, and less than 802.11a.

    If you read the TOS, they did NOT allowed to have servers...

    I had ordered SprintION, and although the sales drone said that they could test the line with my existing DSL, but that was wrong, my line did not qualify and the return call from SprintION claimed it was due to my existing DSL. At that point I just said forget it.

    A little outdated, $200 would get you about 2.5G - 3G of RAM, but your right, this is alot less than the 80 G you can get for the same price.

    2) It is RISC rather than CISC, and having used a 200MHz StrongARM desktop I can tell you it FLIES. Much faster than a P2-266

    Do you have any hard numbers to confirm this?? RISC processors at the same speed as a CISC processor are typically SLOWER because they do LESS work per instruction than a CISC processor.

    Are you really comparing the speed of the processors or how the overall systems 'feels'... It's an invalid comparision, if you are comparing a fully installed Linux system on a P2-266, with all the extra processes and X, etc), to a stripped down StrongARM system with minimum processes and much smaller graphic display.

    So what is this 'Sphinx' email? Is it some propietary software or what??

    The article seems to raise more questions that answers.

    It also had the actual speed numbers next to it... a little calc and you have 1/2386 difference in Bandwidth between Europe/Latin America and Europe/US...

    Why do you find that so surprising? Why lay a much longer fiber cable to Latin America, when you can just lay one to US, and interconnect with Latin America through the US?

    Also, doubtful there is as much demand for the Latin America/Europe link than there is for the US/Europe link.

    If that is the case why do they list a 'Lifetime' of 1500 hours? That's only ~62 days.. definitely not as long as it is supplied with hydrogen

    So if I go out and take a bunch of Black/White photographs of the Southwest, Ansel Adams (or his estate if he's dead?) could sue over copyright infringement?

    I sure hope not... even if I used his photographs to determine how to best frame my photograph, and especially if I didn't.

    Ok... lets try another one...

    Photographer A captures a breath-taking picture of a sunsite behind some buildings. Photographer B sees the picture and thinks that was he would like to take the same picture and after several weeks of waiting was able to get a picture that was almost identical to the original(you would have to compare them side by side to see the differences..)

    Did photographer B violate A's copyright.. no it was created independently... Was B inspired by A, yes. does this violate copyright, no.. Same thing with apple, just because you inspire a copy of a work, does not be that it infringes on the copyright of that work.

    Just imagine if Burger King has decided to sue Jack-in-the-Box because Jack's new chicken sandwich looks too close to Burger King's Chicken Sandwich.

    Jack's new chicken sandwich is long and shaped identicial to Burger King. Shouldn't BK have the exclusive right to make this shaped Chicken sandwich.

    Of course NOT!, so should Apple have exclusive right's to a theme? No.

    From there May 31, 01 press release. There where just getting applications ready to submit inorder to get approval for launch... None of the other press releases state that they have received approval, or that they have even submitted the applications...

    I think they are much further off than 4th Quarter of 2001...
