the difference is that when you connect to the wireless network your computer asks for an IP adress. Then it asks to resolve host names when you surf. To enhance the previous analogy, it would be more like your neighbor rings your doorbell and your housekeeper opens the door. Your neighbor then asks if he can borrow your TV, and your housekeeper gives it to him. The fact that you didn't explain the rules to the housekeeper is your problem. How is one supposed to know you didn't really mean to lend it to him? This is different then entering an unlocked house without permission and stealing stuff.
Slamming the brakes in that scenario is a Felony here. Part of the new Road Rage laws. Failing to yield to a passing vehicle is also a traffic infraction, albeit minor. Forcing someone off the road is a felony.
And not to be a jerk... I don't mind if u drive the limit, but i hate people that drive UNDER the limit in the fast lane. Also slowing down to hold up traffic is a Class B moving violation. Speeding is usually a class C violation, so you would be subject to a worse ticket (ie more expensive)
because few people bother reading/following the EULA they said yes to.
You mean that EULA that was presented to you after you bought the thing? Too bad the case where Adobe lost, because the judge said exactly that, was a local court, and not a higher level court, otherwise it could serve as a precedence.
If you re-read my post, you are not travelling anywhere near lightspeed. One could even surmise that you have near zero velocity, because you are warping space-time-continuum around you. Point A becomes Point B, (or at least closer to it).
Think of it this way... Fold a piece of paper. Now hold the non-folded edge. You moved your finger from one end of the paper to the other. From your frame of reference you moved your finger a few millimeters. From the perspective of the paper, your finger traveled the distance of the length of paper.
So in terms of Warp Travel, You can be perceived as moving at the Speed of Light, without actually moving at the speed of light...
This is how Stephen Hawkings described how "warp" speed may be possible without breaking any equations.
I assume you mean impossible part as in you can't travel faster than the speed of light without having infinite mass and energy.
A while back, I saw a special on PBS or something, and they had steven hawkings. Basically, hawkings was explaining how warp travel may someday be accomplished, without breaking that rule...
You wouldn't have a velocity anywhere near the speed of light. Basically you "warp" or bend the space time continuum such that point A becomes point B. Imagine a tight Sine-Wave, and you hop along the top from point to point. From your persepective you are not moving very fast. From another perspective, you are thought to be actually tracing that sine-wave, such that the perceived distance travelled is greater.
You do realize that despite the fact that everyone else may be speeding, if you are a traffic impedement to the normal flow of traffic, you are in fact "breaking the law" as well.
In fact, the law books over here even state that if there are more than something like 7 cars in line behind you (on a 2 lane road), then you MUST pull over and let them pass.
When she was in court, the person in front of her got a ticket for going 37 in a 35!!! Further, despite the fact that the cop didn't show up to court, the judge allowed it. He even postponed the court date because the cop didn't show up. The second time around, he still didn't show up, and the judge said its ok, and continued. What's up with that?
Personally, I think it would be more just if the money collected from tickets did not go directly into the budget of the police department. It should go back into the community or something. If it goes into the departments budget, than it becomes rather self serving instead of serving the public, if you catch my drift.
In places like Thailand, left-hand-drive vehicles are illegal. Mostly because they have a high tariff, and this is how they catch smugglers(bordering countries are left-hand-drive). At least, that's how my Thai friend explained it to me in college...
Just because you made DivX doesn't make you thief, nor does it mean you are only ripping DVDs that you rented.
I use PVR software and love it. I use a multipass encoder to compress my favorite shows to DiVX, so they are reasonably sized to archive to CDs. Since I have a fully networked house, its nice to have an on-screen UI on my TV to choose whatever shows/movies I have to watch, so there is reason to rip your own DVDs that you own. I also like to watch movies on my laptop when on long flights/business trips, but I don't like carrying a bunch of DVDs in my laptop bag, so I store a few DiVX movies to watch...
At my old company it used to piss me off that I would always receive "emails from the filter", that said an email could not be delivered or was not received because of offensive language, when it turns out there was no offensive language. Just a crappy filter. That was rectified by using PGP encryption;)
I'm glad at the company I'm at now, I was able to justify my own DSL connection for lab use;)
As for the PGP, the company I'm at now, encourages the use of PGP for email:p
you should try shopping at fry's electronics. Then you get to spend hours finding a box that doesn't have the previously returned sticker on it, wait hours in line to purchase, wait a few more hours while they personally call your bank to verify funds from your check, wait some more to have the door nazis look at all your stuff, spend another hour driving home, then discover the box did not contain what you thought it would, then spend time driving all the way back. Then wait some more in the line to return. Spend time arguing that you did not switch the item. Wait some more, to speak to the PIC (person in charge), yell some more. Then finally get a refund coupon, then wait in line again to redeem your refund. Look here
A while back I was looking for a wireless microphone, because I was going to MC a friend's wedding. I was disgusted when I saw a bunch of boxes at fry's with a sticker saying, "microphone missing", yet the price was not marked down very much. What?! Charging you practically full price for an empty box?
since I have my own domain, I made the email in such a way, that I will know that if I get spammed, I know EXACTLY where they got the email address from....
Telemarketers may still call you, if they have a pre-existing business relationship with you. So if you bank with BofA for example, BofA and all of its subsidiaries (and IIRC, business partners) can/will call you.
Reminds me when I was in college, and the local 7-11 scanned your california driver's license when you buy cigarettes. My friend, who wanted to buy cigs, didn't want them to scan his license, so he handed them his military ID. Of course, you can't scan this, and as such, wouldn't sell him cigs. (even tho he was old enough to buy liquor)... After a bunch of yelling, they sold him his cigs without scanning anthing...
I thought the cable companies were deregulated back in the mid 80's?
I remember when the cable bill used to be $7 a month for crap channels. Since about 1986 or so, the rates have been going up, and the number of channels have been going up. I remember $7 would buy you maybe 10-15 channels. Then you could buy the enhanced basic, or extended basic, then you could pay $3 for each premium channel. Since 1986, they started coming in packages and such.
Oh well. I was only in like 6th grade back then, so my memory may have faded considerably:)
I was a CS major in college. Many of my projects involved socket programming, some of which were Client-Server, others were P2P. This would really suck if the CS guys suddenly started getting their connectivity shut off because their class project was mistakenly identified as something else.
my wife pointed out the other day that the major banks have disclaimers on their safety deposit boxes concerning loss due to fire and/or theft. At first I would've thought that the thing would be more secure in the bank's vaults than at home.
One wonders if you could still sue the bank, since this waiver of liability could be construed as not so different than MS's waiver of liability right?;)

And saying they could "find" some program on to do this automatically, is akin to me saying, "I'll just pay someone to photocopy the book for me"...
Hell, my freshmen year, someone paid me to do just that with my physics book.

Maybe not, but that 17GB HD capture will sure make a tasty DivX...
:)
especially if you burn it on one of them new fangled corn discs
So basically you're saying if I decide to sell six packs of piss, I'll have no takers :p
:)
;)
But if I have six packs of beers, than maybe I might have a legit business model
(admittedly, some six pack of brews taste like they might have been piss
Isn't Canada the worlds largest fresh water exporter? I heard lots of oil tankers that bring oil to canada, return home full of fresh water.
Can't we just get our water from canada? I'm sure its much easier and cheaper (with NAFTA and all), to take our water from our northern neighbors.

I'm guessing it still uses AOL's proprietary dial up stuff, instead of standard dial-up networking.
This was the main reason I used a mom-n'-pop ISP before I had broadband...

makes you wonder about "OmniCorp"... I'm sure everyone has bought something from Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, GE, etc.
Telemarketers may still call you, if they have a pre-existing business relationship with you. So if you bank with BofA for example, BofA and all of its subsidiaries (and IIRC, business partners) can/will call you.
I thought all government issued IDs are acceptable forms of id... Just use your passport or military id. They don't have strips on em...
