I am unsure how I feel about this. While I believe that IP and copyright are getting way out of hand I ask myself how would I react to a company flying my countries flag, family crest, company logo. How would you feel if Walmart changed its logo to the American flag? Would you want them to be seen as directly representing the US.

He states at the begining of the article that he sees the internet as a genie that has been set free and that with said genie free all things are posible. When he tells us how he could put this genie back into the bottle he is pointing out the places where we have to be carefull and make "work arounds".

Like the article says information and knowledge are powerfull things that alot of ppl in the media and government dont want us to have. How do you control a population of individuals that can find "unbiased" information.

Read the article. Im finishing it now. Read between the lines and think about how usefull an article like this could have been 3 years ago before all the shit hit the fan. Think of ways to work around these obstacles.

I grew up in a very small town in northern Maine where 90% of the jobs were in the lumber industry. Logging paper and milling. 100 years ago the state was something like 80% forest now due to replanting and such the state is over 90%, I believe it is like 94-95% right now but I have been wrong at least twice today already :).

The loggers really dont mind people sitting in the trees or just hanging out. It just means that they cant cut that tree right now. There are plenty more. There is no real benifit in taking these people away if they are not hurting anyone.

I say that in a very serious way. The people who we call "tree huggers" can get really scarry and do things that cause peoples lives. There have been a number pf people in Maine arrested for causing harm. Picture a logger cutting a tree with a chainsaw and all the sudden his saw bucks out of the tree and takes him in the head because a protester drove a 10 inch spike into the tree, not to mention that spiking trees isnt good for them either. Logging is a very dangerous buisness and sometimes the activists get mean.

As long as you do not harm other people or other peoples property I believe you have the right to be heard and if in the process you change some peoples thinking than good. And I know that the loggers will thank you for not messing with them and they might just like the company.

    Sorry for the bad spelling.

And as someone pointed out Guinea isnt as repressed as I let on. The thing that does concern me is the fact that most people, me included, know nothing about what these people are going through but as soon as LinuxJournal covers some tech people care. No that doesnt quite fit what I want to say either. I guess it is just a sense of frustration. I do realize the benifits of this on a medical and humanatarian level and think it is awsome.

As one poster said if you work for the .gov then you really dont have to worry about job loss, well you do but not as much. The one complaint that alot of my co-workers had was that they wernt given the chance to try new things and branch out. In some cases if you are in the bleading edge dept. then you can but usually no, they still use ada for christ sake! One good thing was that the specs were fantastic for the projects I was involved with and the pace was easy. We really didnt slack but the deadlines wernt the slap in the face that the private sector gives you.

With the public sector I have the freadom to try out new tech and see if it fits in with our buisness model. The specs I have recieved in most all of my exp were terible, changing all the time and in alot of cases just plain unreasonable. Time to deliver is a joke as well. I say a month and my sales people say 2 weeks. Well what can you do.

With the .gov the deadlines are years in advance and everywhere else it is a race to market.

I liked both and wouldnt mind working in either sector. But if you work for the private sector remember that some companies have a notion that all former .gov workers are lazy. well in my exp.
