I'm not much of a speculator or trader. I tend to buy and hold long-term. That's why I specifically worded my post to indicate a growth in equity, and not in dollars.
I personally put some money into RedHat last summer. Not enough to bankrupt me or to get rich, you understand, but I'm currently sitting on about 41% equity growth.

Let's extrapolate for a moment, shall we? I'll even do Intel a favor and clamp down on the AMD increases each time. Basically, AMD more than doubled their share of this elite group in six months' time.
Six months from now, they've almost doubled to 100 systems.
Twelve months from now, slowing down and growing only 75%, they've got 175 systems.
Two years in the future, with even more slowing down of their growth, 300 systems on the list are AMD. I wonder whether the preponderance of that growth comes from the current 400-odd Intel machines or from the 73 IBM setups...
Likely? Maybe not. Possible? Yeah, it just might be.

Dumb and Dumber, as far as I'm concerned. Did you ever see her on "Jeopardy", when she failed to come up with basic answers about the US government? Did you ever wonder why he so strongly opposed the will of the people that he wrote (and got passed) legislation to circumvent even PLACING a referendum on legalizing marijuana on the ballot? I don't want to hear or see what these two have to say, it simply brings down the general level of human discourse.
I think you must compare the time spent implementing some BSD variant against the time spent trying to keep that cranky PDC up and running... Add in the provided budgetary numbers, and then factor in the level of disaster if the controller goes out completely.
Watch a lion attacking a herd animal of some sort. They leap onto the back of the thing, holding on with their claws and attempting to sever the spinal cord at the neck with their jaws.
I have this image in my head of a small flock of these dinosaurs doing essentially the same thing, using the claws on their hind feet to gain purchase on the back of some lumbering beast.
It's quite as fearsome an image as the disembowelling scenario, with the added bonus that it can last an agonizingly long time for a large prey animal.

People need access to subway maps, and getting them from the MTA is like pulling teeth. This despite the fact that when you can find a token booth with a clerk who actually HAS such maps, you can get one for free.
That's right, NYC doesn't sell these maps, it gives them away.
So perhaps they don't NEED to have any recourse against those who would sell such copies?
I don't think that an image such as a municipal subway map should even BE copyrightable. By rights it should be public-domain information.
Subway maps were very difficult to get. Technically they were free and available, but you had to be damned lucky to find a token booth clerk who actually had any in the booth.
A downloadable map makes a world of sense, and frankly I cannot understand just WHAT about a subway system map needs copyright protection? Is there some subway map counterfeiting operation out there? Does the system stand to lose ridership and money as a consequence of people being able to find their way around?
In summary, I consider this lawsuit to be insane and unnecessary. Noone but the lawyers will benefi.. Oh, yes, that's right.
Of course, some technologies, such as the hydrogen engines BMW is planning to release shortly, are basically conventional internal combustion designs optimized to use hydrogen as a fuel. These avoid the problems which can arise trying to make small, efficient and reliable fuel cells.

This concept, while not explicitly set out in words, is generally how people understand the terms 'copy' and 'distribute'.
Essentially, as long as one does not publish code, the terms of the GPL which call for source code release are never invoked.
