"Until someone takes the ease of parallelization of the Transputer, the ease of clustering of Mosix, the ease of SIMD of a vector system, the unblocking nature of asynchronous processors, and the massive bandwidth of busses like VXI, and rolls it into a single chip, I will continue to believe that we live in a world of sub-optimal solutions, fuelled more by a fear of venturing outside the norm than by any technological constraints."
Although I don't really do it for the cash, I have a lot of fun teaching. Lately I've had a bunch of kids working on what would be a masters thesis in the US. While I don't always have the expertise they do in the subject mater at hand I have enough technical knowledge to help and I speak English as a first language. (Most of these must presented in English) Also the local technical college has hooked me up with a bunch of folks going for the same degree I have or in the field I work in.
The upside is I have 20 something girls shopping for clothes for me (I'm colour blind) and women in their 30s teaching me how to cook.
In order to reach the Hubble a Soyuz would have to be launched from the equator rather than Kazakhstan (where they are now currently launched). As it so happens, the Russians have signed a deal with the European Space Agency to allow them to launch Soyuzes from French Guiana starting in 2006. Additionally the costs of launch are so low, that 3 missions to Hubble could be planned for less than the one mentioned here, or two shuttle missions.
Still I'd like to see James Webb Telescope in place...
Being that it's not on this world, (which, amazingly, means it's not in the US) I think 'National Park' and 'U.N. World Heritage site' both sound too local.
yeah... I took "Alternatives" to mean alternatives to Linux before I RTFA. Still it's a good read and worthwhile to me, despite the fact that only about 5% of my job is real time dependant.
NetBSD is not Hard Real Time. But most applications don't need true Real Time behavior. I use it at work for a couple of projects and find it more satisfactory than VXworks, Linux or (god forbid) Windows XP embedded.
Also Dynamic Memory allocation makes for... "Interesting" testing "Oppurtunities". That's not to say I've never done it, only that I sort of wish I hadn't
And then use Mac OS X. Must of problems have been solved.
To top it off my Mum must have a thing for the kid at the local apple store. She's gone to most of their little classes and drug me by to meet him when I was in town recently.
Well, I'm 38 and I have a 2003 Skoda. I like it just fine, the electronics that govern the engine provide me with fantastic fuel efficiency, and the anti-lock brakes have prevented two potential accidents that I am aware of. Recently I had an iPod adapter installed which I also enjoy. And I find myself frequently using my iPaq / GPS when traveling.
Despite the fact that I used to be a SAE master mechanic, it doesn't really matter if I can or can't work on it, the warranty period and service agreement I entered into when I bought the car are sufficient reason form me not to lift the hood for the next 10 years.
I don't think I'd use an automated car to go to work because mostly I bicycle to work. But I would use it in my Westfalia VW van in an instant!
So all things considered I don't see what you are all worked up over.
If you were to go down to the basement of our building you would find around 7 or 8 older Sun systems (and some SGIs) that our Mechanical Engineering department used to use. I remember them being real Sun bigots. Now the IT guys have some sort of (most likely Evil) deal with HP and they have those RISC things of HP's. I suspect some violence would ensue, if one were to attempt to bring back Sun in to their world.
Don't they call that "STI Cell"?
Been there, done that. I've worked for a company that was getting ISO 9001 certified. It's just extortion.

IBM is planning to market many different types of Cell CPU's for handys, TV's, Workstations, and and Super Computers.
English never makes since (or is it sense or cents?)
But I suppose I'm not representative of most Mac users, because I'm an embedded developer.
Still I'd like to see James Webb Telescope in place...
I had a Arab friend tell me, during a conversation on this topic, that an independent Kurdishtan would be more problematic than Iseral / Palestine.
Still you're on the right track...
And we're thinking of letting Turkey in the EU?
I have a smart crossblade, for the summer. Lots of fun!
Having worked on projects with & without UI experts, all I can say to this is BULLSHIT

I'm holding out to find the G-Spot.
The Bank next door has started leaving the lights on all night, rather than using a movement detector. I'm buying a pelet gun soon.
I'd wager that less than 15~20% of thrit need is Hard-Real time. But hey what do I know, I develop medical devices not space ships

you know, I'm not sure how to respond to that except for "I wouldn't be in your yard if you weren't so house proud!"

Yep, at a cost many thousands of dollars per kilo this is a great way to dispose of many tons of material...NOT
