Convicted monopolist? Microsoft was found to have a monopoly. That in and of itself is not a crime. Time for you to go do some reading. There are plenty of markets where a monopoly exists, and its not the government's job to "restore" them to a "nonmonopolistic" state.
Maybe because you don't always want to listen to the same music in one charge? 5% of my disk before I run out of juice means that I can go 20 days (about a month of listening at work) and not listen to the same music on any given day. Overkill? Yes, maybe. - but I like having choice. Some days I feel like listening to different kinds of music. I have my entire music collection on my player (in my case a Karma) and I think it's fantastic. The argument that storage capacity should equal battery life is inane.
I know the parent was kind of tongue in cheek, but many newer cell phones (almost everything that Spring sells comes to mind) plays J2ME pretty well, so it's an itneresting platform to develop for.
Lighten up. They're not telling people to go out and bet on the results. It's done with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Just for fun. What happens when we let video games predict the outcome?
I understand your point, and yes, I should have been more clear.
What I meant was that in many families I've had experience with, parents are much stricter about how their kids spend there time during the school year. Kids are much more likely to have free time to play video games during the summer then they are otherwise. This why you see a lot of games released in May. Check out release lists over the past 10 years, it's a pronounced phenomenon, and there's a reason for it.
For some games - Gran Tourismo, GTA, Final Fantasy, etc - it doesn't matter when you release, it's going to do well.
For others it makes sense to launch either at Christmas (for obvious reasons), or in May when kids are getting out of school and suddenly aren't under the strict yolk of parental control. So traditionally you see games come out at those two times.
The game market is bigger now, and any given game can absolutely get lost in the shuffle. Maybe spreading the releases is a good idea. I'm not a video game marketing expert:)
Why build one when you can build two at twice the price?
(And yes, before some ass starts going off that it's not actually twice the price because of R&D and whatnot overhead...I'm aware of that. It's a joke).
The idea might catch on when the child diseases are fixed and the next generation NGage hits the streets.
Maybe, the idea is a great one, but I think you're more likely to see cell phones in general progress to the point where they can play advanced games, rather than a gamesystem with a cell phone component tacked on be successful.

This isn't meant as a flame, I wish Mandrake well.
But how much of their income last quarter was due to donations, and do they expect to be able to keep that up? I really don't know, and I'd like to hear from soemone in the know.
Thank you! I remember playing a demo of this game ages ago. Over the last year or so I've been wracking my brain to figure out what it was called. Finally!
Now if I can just figure out how to play it again...
Rockstar is in business to make a profit. If they can make more money via contracts with Microsoft and Sony to *not* publish on the Gamecube then they can otherwise, then that's what they'll do. I'm sorry you feel left out, but as you pointed out, there are at least a few options for GC owners to get a GTA-like experience.
Most mice with a scroll wheel allow it to act as a button. When pressed you can then scroll in any direction using the mouse.
That's not the point.
The point is making it more efficient. Why in hell would I want to have to reach over to the keyboard and find a key when I could easily just lift a finger?
Silent Hill 2 was one of the single creepiest things I've ever experienced. Played in the dark with the sound turned way up loud there were some really freaky moments. The music and sound effects alone were worth the price of admission. If you've never gone through the game (it's not really difficult) do yourself a favor and rent it.
I remember at one point in the game omething in the apartment above me was thumping loudly back and forther across the room. It definitely made the experience that much more..involing, I guess. It was right up there with the scairest movies I've ever seen.
Please, elaborite on why the XBox is one of the 25 biggest mistakes ever in gaming? I have an xbox and happen to love it. It's a great do-everything entertainment unit once it's been modded. Being able to stream media off my PC and in to my living room with zero hassle is fantastic. Near perfect emulator support is also great. I'd contemplated building a small PC to do all of this, but the xbox does it for about half the price.
Plus it plays xbox games.
So tell me again, why is it such a huge mistake? Oh, it's made by Microsoft, and you hate everything Microsoft?
But don't most integrated graphics chips these days have at least some sort of 3d acceleration?
That's the impression I was under - and even that meager amount of 3d acceleration would be better than offloading all of the graphics rendering to the CPU, right? right?
Who has a fast enough CPU to run this game, but *doesn't* have any kind of 3d accelerated video card. That kind of userbase must be incredibly small. I'm struggling to come up with any kind of user who would want to play this that wouldn't have at LEAST a TNT2 or GeForce. And a GeForce2 can be had for what, $20? Less than the price of the game. Please tell me who this is for.
Of course maybe there's a more important reason for the software renderer, but I'm not going to read the article for fear of being proven wrong.
If a gamer's buying a sports title in, say, 2003, and he's confused about which to buy, here's what's going to happen. He goes in to a store and sees:
Madden 2003 - 19.95 Madden 2004 - 49.94
Which is he going to think is the more recent title?
How hard is this to figure out? Please, show me one case where a gamer has been seriously swindled by this.
In other news, EA Sports recently reset their baseball franchise back a year to correct this.
To sum up: Yes, it's silly that sports games are usually named a year ahead of where they should. Is it really that big of a deal? No. Go find something more important to bitch about.

First rule of government spending:

Well obviously you haven't seen The Phantom Menace. Of course a planet's core can be made of water!!!
I swear, some people just don't *pay attention*.
What about setting up an nntp server, and then using a newsreader?
Or, if they want it in website form, using some sort of prefab browser-based newsreader. Does anyone have a suggestion?
If you are serious about learning Photoshop with designs on using it professionally then the price of a license is hardly prohibitive.
Photoshop is a professional-level tool and is priced accordingly.

This isn't a test of whether man or machine is superior. This is a test of whether man or machine is superior at chess.
Eventually machine will probably always be superior. For now they're about equal.

If you don't want it, don't buy it.

You obviously have never learned the notion of a carrier battle group
All carriers have many different escorts, including subs.
Cable TV companies are pumping dozens of digital movies accross their system at once, live.
Um, no. They're broadcasting one movie at a time. You're not receiving all channels at once. That makes a huge difference in your argument.
Too bad for all those people with mods out there who cant play xbox live
You can simply install a switch on your modchip to turn it off while you use XBox Live. It's not difficult to do at all.
Just be careful not to go online with the modchip on, or your xbox will banned for all eternity.

Stupid.
SELECT * FROM tblLife WHERE objName = "Keys"
This might come in handy.
