I believe that the two most important improvements in WW over OoT, were the augmented range of Z-targeting, and the ability to manipulate the camera freely.
After WW, OoT feels a little unwieldly. You have to do strange things to position the camera as you wish.
Yeah, because Wario Ware and Pikmin and Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Superstar Saga and Zelda Four Swords and a lot of other things, are totally rehashes of old stuff.
Look at what Square Enix has produced this gen.
*2 Single player Final Fantasies for PS2. One is the explotation sequel of the other. *1 MMORPG that, while successful, is a ripoff of everquest. In fact, I doubt it could have any success at all if it wasn't named Final Fantasy. *1 Dragon Quest game. Nothing new here. *lots of rehashes. Anthologies, Chronicles, etc. Ports of old games, whatever. *Front Mission games (nothing new). *Unlimited Saga. Another sequel.
That would be it. Nintendo inovates a lot. Idiots cannot see it, because they mostly use well known IP, so they sell better, by simple brand recongnition.
Most fanboys, when asked about some innovative game, will say "Katamary Damacy". Yeah, it's innovative, but, can they name something else?
When Raine finally finds her mother, who abandoned her at birth, an she, for the first and onjly time in the game, lost her temper, shoots at her for a long while.
It was not a great plot twist, but it was so shocking and, yet, in-character, that it really impressed me.
Your idea is good, but a lot of P2P users out there are morons. They rename porno movies so you download them without knowing. And a lot of others annoyances, just because they can.
I think Metal Gear Solid was more important to defining the genre. It does everything you said Thief did, and did it first (well, for a couple of months).
Nintendo posted HUGE profits last quarter. After a initial good sales, PSP sales are slowing down DESPITE the increased availability. Nintendo has huge reserves in the bank, and its major actionist is the Yamauchi Family, so is unlikely to be sold.
Nintendo in on solid ground. Just because Sega had to leave the hardware market, doesn't mean Nintendo has to too. That is just an stupid and shortsighted analysis.
MGS predates Thief just for a couple of months. However, Konami gave advances of the game years before its release, so Thief MIGHT have been influenced for it.
However, in any discusion about which one defined the genre, Thief will always lose, because MGS had a LOT more people who played it, maybe even on the PC.
Maybe the PSX just flew under your radar, but the fact that the PC has better graphics for more money, doesn't actually means that its games are always the best.
Yeah, but I would be happier if they put more money on gameplay, than voice overs. And even better, if no stupid stunts like getting sean connery to act for a game were done at all.
Anyway, I don't mind too much bad voiceovers, because english is not my first language.
The problem is that creation is not a theory, because it is not falsifiable.
Any fact can be explained through the interference of a rational god. So no matter the amount of evidence we present creationist, they can always say "yeah, but this can also be explained by creationism, so it doesn't count".
In the end, we should just ignore creationists, but they have important political presence, so they have power, and can damage the educational system, or research funds. They are damaging science.
The Genesis did well in the US and Europe, but on Japan, it was a massive flop. The Sega Saturn was just the reverse, it did well in japan (for a while), and flopped everywhere else.
Back to your point, considering the fact that the Genesis only won for a short while, in Europe and the US, and then was swept by the SNES everywhere, yeah, I could say that the SNES won that round.
I'm not a sports fan, so I hate all sports videogames. They are crap. Period. And keep companies like EA alive.
However, I have my own opinion on this.
I don't believe this is THAT bad. Konami, for example, has had success for years with it's Pro Evolution Soccer series, in fact, since the days of the SNES (on that console, it was called International Super Star Soccer)
Most soccer and sport videogames fan agree that Konami's product is vastly superior. The only thing against it is that Konami has to use fake names for the soccer players, fake logos, etc. But they still sell crapload of Pro Evolution.
So other companies should try to make a better game, even without licenses.

Yeah, it's better. As a freesbee.
As a game, WW is leagues ahead of FFX-2.

...so even if a terrorist was able to get on and wake from hibernation, they wouldn't be able to make any threats to take control of the plane.
Except killing the other passengers
Was it ILLEGAL to skip ads?!
What kind of law was that?
Your idea is good, but a lot of P2P users out there are morons. They rename porno movies so you download them without knowing. And a lot of others annoyances, just because they can.
But sports games are BORING.
I think Metal Gear Solid was more important to defining the genre. It does everything you said Thief did, and did it first (well, for a couple of months).
And had a better story. And bosses.
Yeah, but the state doesn't keeps the porn in their servers. Big difference.
And, if today is pornography, tomorrow will be "wrong" ideas, political adversaries, etc, that will be censored.
In fact, last week, in japan the DS outsold the PSP.
The real view says:
Nintendo posted HUGE profits last quarter. After a initial good sales, PSP sales are slowing down DESPITE the increased availability. Nintendo has huge reserves in the bank, and its major actionist is the Yamauchi Family, so is unlikely to be sold.

But imagine the innovations in the WW2 FPS area!!

Yes, but you can polish a game if you throw money to it. Testing takes time and money, and a lot of publishers try to cut it as much as possible.
However, Unless we are talking about fully voiced rpg's, VO may not be a big money sink, so you can have your cookie.

Once the traits for defending from predators are useless, they may become useless, and more of a hurdle.
So it's not unreasonable to think the unhelmeted bugs became prevalent again.

(this from a proud genesis owner).
I predict that there will be one or maybe more FPSs located in WWII.
I also see...multiplayer...and rocket launchers. Snipers rifles are also coming. And grenades.
Oh my god, I'm a psychic!
I'm not a sports fan, so I hate all sports videogames. They are crap. Period. And keep companies like EA alive.

Errr...But, if you actually have something new, you could still be able to patent it, and you wouldn't be bothered with stupid patents.
It is a good idea.
Yeah, except that sony had sold like 10 or 20 millions of PS2 before Nintendo or MS had even sold one.
Sony declared themselves as winners with the PS2, just before Gamecube or Xbox were launched. And they were mostly right.
I thought slashback was absorbed into the whole dupe system...
