Eleven carriers. And frankly, they may even get cut to ten or even nine carriers in the next few years, to pay for Obama's budget. You can say it's dumb if you want, but having more carriers than the whole world put together means that nobody even thinks of challenging you. Cut it down to a reasonable number like five, or two, or zero, and suddenly everyone and his dog thinks he can control the sea. Get ready for free navigation of international waters to become a quaint artifact of the past.

The "all time highs" of the negatives are from people who are abusing opioids as recreational drugs, not those getting the drugs in hospitals. The "Keep calm and carry on" poster was never publicized. It was intended to be posted AFTER a successful German invasion of the British Isles. But, you know, don't let those inconvenient facts get in the way of your false narrative.

By the way, the Germans did indeed target military installations. Otherwise, how could it be a "turning point". Turning point from what? It took the heat off the RAF from...what, exactly? Bombing their airfields? But according to what you just said, they didn't bother targeting military installations. +4 Insightful my ass.

Yeah, well, you'd be surprised. People out there get bitchy and moany when they have to go two seconds without listening to Nickelback or Maroon 5. I remember a sightseeing tour by car through magical China, stopping at hilltop monasteries and having tea at amazing teahouses with breathtaking views. Real Kung Fu movie stuff, live and in the flesh. My two co-tourists couldn't believe that the car didn't have any music other than a couple of crappy Chinese dance music CDs and didn't have a USB port to accept input from their music players. I was like, uh, these are amazing views and we're doing amazing things today, is it OK if we go without music for eight hours? You'd have thought I suggested we drink out of a bucket of warm spit, to judge by the disgusted reactions on their faces to this unwelcome suggestion. Seriously, I'm pretty sure it ruined the trip for them. I had an awesome time.

Governments do this all the time. Jimmy Carter's famous Camp David Accords peace treaty between Sadat and Begin wouldn't have happened unless Carter bribed Egypt with $1.3 billion dollars per year in "aid". Not to be left out, Israel received a $3 billion bribe, I mean, foreign aid, for their part in the peace treaty. For accepting these bribes, Begin and Sadat shared a Nobel Peace Prize. Suddenly, everyone is shocked, shocked to find that aid is going on here?

Try this from now on: any time you hear the word "foreign aid", mentally substitute the word "bribe". You'll see it's a quite normal state of affairs among nations.

  25. China Labor Watch on Behind the Scenes With Samsung's Factory Workers · · Score: 2

What kind of "China Labor Watch" would they be if they reported everything was OK? They have an incentive to report bad news, and spin everything in a negative direction. For all we know, they could be like NPR and think they don't even need evidence, engaging in outright fabrication. And why not? It supports their pre-existing mental state. "We didn't think that he was lying to us and to audiences about the details of his story."

Hey, I'm not saying Chinese factories are heaven. Even in America, factories that are unionized and obey every OSHA rule are still not particularly pleasant places to work. But the "big name" factories in China have the best working conditions, hands down. I've been to the little ones and they can be hell. If the boss thinks of himself as father to the workers, the small factories can be quite nice. But when he thinks of himself as the only smart person in the company, and the workers as reprehensible (think of it like the way liberals consider middle Americans), things can get bad. Come on, this China Labor Watch isn't going after the bad factories. It's just going after the big names to get publicity for itself. If they were actually interested in fixing things, they'd have no trouble swinging a 2x4 in China and hitting several factories that need to be exposed. But they're not interested in that, eh?
