So, do the sane thing and don't use Windows update. Get the patches as they come out, as it's sometimes 3-4 weeks or more before they show up on Windows Update. This way you defeat the annoying problems caused by this and keep more up-to-date.
Actually, I've got AOL 8 Beta. It installed IE6 on my box. I don't think it's using Gecko anywhere, though it's hard to tell. Hmm, I'll have to check on my stats tonight to see what it identifies itself as on my site...
My last home had this type of setup. Over the course of the time I lived there, we stripped that system out and replaced it with normal light switches. Why?
-- Relays go bad much faster than your average on-off switch, and ours would only catch about half the time -- When the relays go bad, they're a bit more expensive to replace than a switch would be -- Annoying click noise whenever you use the switch -- Dimming: doesn't work -- you'd have to have the dimmer on the unit being controlled after the relay, which defeats the purpose of having a switch away from the unit.
Indeed, the LCD universal remotes are put out by Sony, and cost about $150 at your local Compuglobalhypermegastore.

OT, I know, but if you mean the Pets.com sock puppet, they've actually got him in a commercial around here for some sleasy auto credit place. It's really rather funny.
Gee, I was just being facetious. It's SCSI, just FYI. Make an offer. I'm using my MO drive more than this, so I don't really use it. I lack the software CD for it, just so you know, but if you use *ix or WinXP, that's not an issue either.
Gah!! Me too! I hate my freaking DVD-RAM drive. I thought I was the only one to get one, in fact. Hmmmm...anyone want a slightly buggy Creative DVD-RAM drive? I'll even throw in 2 double-sided type 1 disks. TAKE IT AWAY!!! Hehehe.
Hehe, I hear you there. Lots of weird things going on then -- the idea of a cd-rom changing its contents and the like after install really doesn't make sense now that I look back at it, but I had thought the same of some pieces of software at some point in time...
Just anecdotal evidence, but I've got an Office 97 CD that's been used at least 50 times. The reason: utterly horrid luck with hard drives tanking over a few years. That and various format-reinstalls hehe.
...or, the kids could just put forth enough effort to be passed with a D. That's what most kids that I've seen (that don't like gym...I grew up where Phys. Ed. was required every year all the way up through 12th grade) do. Hell, getting changed to your gym clothes gets you a C...
You know, I may be in the minority here, but even though I heard the ads for spot.cc on their stations, I never associated.cc with Clear Channel. Probably because I don't associate Ford with ABC when I see their ad or Vitametavegemin (-1: Obscure TV Reference) with whatever. It's not exactly made clear that they are associated with Clear Channel in the ads, and I'm sure that's a good thing, else they may get less geek traffic -- after all, it's mainly geeks that are registering them.
Sure, it is! If you'd like to come and get one from me, I'd be glad to provide one free of charge. If you'd prefer I'd mail you one, that's fine too -- just pay the postage. No charge for the CD, exact price of postage. Cheers!
Well, the only thing I can say to that is that the intentionally doesn't mean much. Pontiac didn't intentionally make the Fiero such that when caught fire, it would emit toxic gas either. With the ammount of Cisco uBRs (the only thing *I* come in contact with of that nature) I see crashing randomly, irregardless of intent, the problem still remains.
Well, as to spyware, there's none in KaZaa Lite...and on that, I regularly get around 50K/sec down as well. I'd suggest eDonkey2k too, but I can't ever seem to find anyone with a fast connection on it.
Actually, in a robotics course I took, we did just that...though we really needed more than one robot, due to the type. That was, by far, the silliest thing we ever did in that course.

Hey! Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this? I'll pay!
RAILING!!!!
Where are my mod points when I need them? (+1, Funny), dangit!
The time has come for all good nerds to come to the aid of their country. I ask of you now, Nerdinistan, yea or nay?!
Mmmmm...verbification of nouns...

Cut and paste is working fine, it's /. that's doing that to you. Yay lameness filter.

Oh, and by the way, I am entirely serious about this. If you really need a Linux or BSD distro on CD, let me know. :)
Welllllll...if I get bored enough and decide to pay Sun $20 for a Solaris 8 download, you'll be the first to know.

Yep, I've run it, it's running root allllllll the time.

Cool, thanks! *zips off that-a-way*
