Yeah, I hate relay calls. I get about 1-2 a month. They're a pain, because you can't go "nononono! don't do that!" Which any tech sup agent knows, is a vital part of the job!
Hehe...I actually do telephone tech support for a living (I support Macs, PCs running Windows 3.1-XP and some flavors of Linux and BSD). You haven't lived until you get someone who not only doesn't understand anything about their computer, but doesn't speak English very well. I find helping my family much easier this way, but it's all relative, I suppose. Oh, and don't get into this field...boy does it ever suck! Hehe.
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the US. It's a day when nearly every retailer has a rather large sale. So many people shop on that day, and the tensions are so high (from the limited quantities of sale items) that it can be a real nasty mess. It's also referred to as the start of the holiday shopping season.
::giggles:: Thanks for the response. It's a shame that such a thing doesn't exhist, but if Quantum Leap is as close as I can get, then I'll have to live with it. You have to admit, though, such a thing would be rather funny...
Indeed, this is true. I have a model from the late 1950's that's still sucking strong. I did get it overhauled (new brushes, electrical cord, etc) last year, but it was still working fine at that point, just at a reduced power.
Uhmmm...good luck in that. I've had similar luck trying to get a Yugo to pull a 53' trailer. If you get yours to work, perhaps we can share technologies?
[for the humor impaired/those who don't check the links -- it's a joke!]
Springfield, Massachusetts also tends to run a bit high. At the local FYE (formerly The Wall) CDs run $15-$21 a piece, for new releases and the like...
Note: I have a friend that likes to screw with me, telnets in and manually adds bizarre headers. But this isn't him, nor can I imagine someone else doing this for kicks on strangers' websites. I really am shocked and bewildered, in a way.
Well, you can always change your user agent headers in the registry if you use IE. Mine says AYBABTU 1.0, for instance.
Nonono, that's up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, gas, break, select start. Forget the select, and you won't get your 30 extra seconds before crashing!
...and as I recall, my good ol' 1994 Ford Crown Vic had a wonderful cruise control "easter egg". It'd turn on cruise control and floor the gas at random times. It happened about twice a year. The last time it happened before I sold it, I was sitting at a stop light, paw fully on the brake. The gas pedal dropped to the floor, and I through it in neutral. I had to turn it off before it would let go. Beautiful thing, that...
Okay, it *really* figures that I don't have mod points right now. I just got a weird stare from my co-workers because I laughed so hard. Somebody +1 this guy already!`
I haven't had any problems from work (I work Sat-Wed, noon-8:30, eastern) connecting, but when I check from home (11 pm, eastern) I've been having problems on occasion. Not nearly as often as you, though.
Indeed. I work in a 24-hour call centre (ugh) doing tech support. The computers and phones are on generator backup, the lights aren't. One night, power got cut to our centre, and we were working by computer light. My eyes felt so much better that night, at the end, and the working environment felt more relaxed. It certainly helped *my* day go better...
Yeah, same here. Mine's a P166/64MB though, and it is faster on 2k than on 98. It swaps more than a bit, but it's tolerable enough once the programs are actually running...
Well, it does show as IE 6 in the user agent, so I guess they've not started Beta-ing the Gecko client yet. Good luck to them, should they decide to switch finally.
On an off-topic note, I'm glad to see that AOL 8 seems to have fixed some of the weirder TCP/IP problems that were present in 6 and 7. I'm not an avid AOL user (I've got it on free trial as I'm currently vacationing somewhere that's low on other ISPs' POPs) but I do work tech support, and it's so annoying to see AOL (6 especially) kill a computer's TCP/IP all together. In fact, AOL 7 wouldn't even let me browse on my 2K laptop. Quite annoying. Hehe.
Actually, more to the point, why not just not use XP? I use 2k for what I do outside of FreeBSD, and it seems to work just fine for me.
Oh, and by the way, I *do* have a legal copy of XP...and pretty near every other Microsoft product. MSDN subscriptions are rather nice, and worth the money, believe it or not.
Thank God we haven't received any mainframes yet...
Dude, if they're going to give you a mainframe, and you don't want it, look me up!

Blind patriotism is just apathy wrapped in a flag.

Wow, I really like that quote! Mind if I take it as a

"Illegal piraters have done it again."
As opposed to legal piraters?

(I like Sci-Fi, they like Westerns, football, and Elvis).
So...just out of sheer morbid curiosity, has there been a Sci-Fi Western that involved football in some way and starred Elvis?
If there was, would you watch it? Hehe.

Ah, so you don't have a Swatch, then?

Beware the carniverous sheep! He'll throw your whole analogy off! :)

I think it says legal.
Dang, where are my mod points when I need them? +1 Insightful, dangit!
It varies everywhere I'm sure. Alas, where I live, they require a driver's license or "liquor ID".
