The question is not "Why should I be helping people" the question should be "Why should I be _forced_ to help people". Thats the key difference here, and thats why "IP socialism" is a bad label. When I write programs and release them under a open license Im doing it because of my own free will. When the government here in Sweden takes > 50% of my profits from my company they are forcing me to give up my money. And since its my time and effort thats producing the output that gives me my money they are infact stealing more then half of my time and more then half of my effort.
Its all fine and dandy if you intend to help people, but forcing people by threatening them is not a way to collect the money or resources to accomplish it. If you are soo inclined to help people, well go out on the street and start actually helping people.
In doing such a thing apple makes it harder for small businesses to use the Ipod for some neat trix. One would think that companies wouldve learned by now that allowing people to use your device to create cool stuff actually increases the profits earned from the sales of the device. Imagine for a second if Valve decided to have everyone pay a fee if they were to mod the original halflife, I would bet that counter strike would have been realeased for some other game instead and valve would have missed out on an extreme amount of cash.
Im a Swede so I cant really be offended by what you just said, and its true, all those things are whats great with the internet. The thing is that the americans created it, using there own money. If we (the europeans/brazillians) want to have controll, we should build our own damn network. Like some other poster said, no one forced us to join in. And as for the UN controlling the internet, I find it to be scary as hell. Imagine what the not so free countries would to with it, there goes your diversity.
Im guessing Im not the single libertarian on/. And just like the poster claimed I have a fealing lots of geeks share the libertarian views of limited government.

Muddy Waters comes up with the conceptual innovations and then his music is spread over seas to England were a couple of lads* basicly uses the same style and conquers the whole world making a shitload of money.
You have to figure the topic out by yourself, it has something to do with/. and sensationalism.
If you managed to read the article it clearly states that " Internet providers in Utah must offer their customers a way to disable access to sites on the list or face felony charges.". To me that clearly points out that the customers will have the CHOICE to block certain sites. And in my book that seems to be ok. If you dont want to have anything blocked, well dont use the service. If you are afraid that your child might catch a glimpse of Janet Jacksons tit then by all means use this service and live a happy and sheltered life.
Keep the computer case closed. Yeah, I know its a pain to unscrew everytime you need to do some hack (read switch pci slots because the soundcard all of a sudden decided to stop working and for some reason it always works when you switch pci slot) but you get rid of an awfull lot of noice. So no more open computer cases. And as a tip to that guy having trouble with pubes getting stuck in his computer: A: Shave B: Stop having perverted relations with your computer, I know the PSU looks might good at times, but cmon, it isnt healty.
Well, an openbsd boxen acting as firewall. NAT:ed machines includes a win32 machine and a freebsd machine. When on IRC i naturally use an ssl encrypted server. I encrypt my mails when its an option. Oh, and I ALWAYS keep my curtains closed, those satelites are anoying;)
Ive read a couple of rumors regarding a evil dead 4 4. Im thinking that this might be a way to make some money to help em accomplish making evil dead 4.
You missed the point:) Im complaining because I need to spend less time with her to get things done. Im not complaining, I just need time to complete some projects and she is a distraction (a good one though ):)
"Their choice was removed by a celebrity who felt her "artistic expression" overruled the right of everyone else on whether they were buying into her desires. And her lack of respect for everyone else's rights is what I despise about her."
She showed a damn tit, how awful can it be? Its not like someone exploaded in a total sexorgie on stage, it was a tit nothing more. I dont care how young your child is, I seriously doubt that ANY child took any serious damage by seing Janet Jacksons tit.
And we should be more open regarding sex. Comparing sex to images of war where people KILL eachother is just stupid. Sex is something beautiful (most of the time) and something most people enjoy doing, you dont really hurt anyone by having sex with someone who agrees to have sex with you.
People keep telling me that I should put my girlfriend infront of Sims if I want to do some hacking on the computer, that way (according to them) she will be occupied playing the sims for hours and hours, funny enough this doesnt seem to work. However, me and my g/f played Halo1 for loads of hours coop, so this is my chance to get some hacking done.
Oh wait, coop, anyone got any sugestions to keep me hacking while the chance of playing halo2 coop is starring me straight in the face with a wartorn girlfriend screaming "Comeon you bastards" at the top of her lungs while dodging bullets and throwing grenades?
Oh well, I guess this is just another change of totally neglecting work that needs to be done.:(
Since an id3-tag (v1.1 mind you) only affects the last 128 bytes it would be pretty easy to only md5 the part that has actually been ripped. Then a slight difference or spelling errors in the id3 tag wouldn matter if it was to be compared against other mp3-files.
Seems as if it's OK for the states to collect information on people living in other countrys even though it might be in violation of there Constitution but not the other way around. But I guess nothing has realy changed..
I just came home from school and sa the whole thing live on the tv. They where broadcasting live as the second plane hit. It seems as if there where reports about a hijacking just before the planes hit. This is bad:/
In Europe people seem to think that it is a terrorist attack (certainly the hijacking reports suggest that it is).
People keep telling me that Sweden is about 10 years after the states, so that means that in 10 years we will begin to face the same problems here in Sweden. So I really hope that you guys in the states manage to convince your politicians and whatnot that privacy is a good thing so that we dont have to:)
Does any one know what would happen to someone not in the states if the FBI cought something interesting from me on the web for instance. Since i'm not from the states could they even touch me? I guess my government would have a thing or two to say about it since the jail time in the states vs sweden are a lot different etc. Does any one know?
I know that there is a swedish company that is about to start selling this kinda stuff. Atleast they have said so for a year or two:). So I guess it should be available soon.
They are still _forcing_ me to pay for all these things. And they wont let me opt out and invest the money in something that I myself have choosen.

*Rolling Stones.
Well actually its not a theory. Its a fact, and if you take a look at your basic gentics you will find evolution to be quite plausable.
Freedom of speech to teach RELIGION in SCIENCE class? By that same mantra we should be teaching children how to program in music class.

"Code-name homebox", that tells me the name is just something they stick with through development.
