This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane...:)
but seriously, this whole "box office" rating thing is pointless.. the #1 box office movie should be rated on # of ticket sales, not # of $$$..
By the current rating standard, a movie with 2x the ticket price only has to sell half as many tickets to be rated as high as the inverse...
I'm not by any means saying that ATOC shouldn't be up there with the greats, but don't base your facts & reports on something variable (such as ticket prices... or even dynamic IP's):)
... I'm very impressed. I've quit using opera a while back due to lack of [decent] CSS implementation and a few other quirks..
I just downloaded Opera 6, and I must say, i've found a new web browser!
(It's very easy to switch since it can import your bookmarks from IE , Netscape, or KDE)
The only thing i've noticed so far is that if you have a </p> tag with no <p> it ignores it, whereas IE & Netscape see that and start a new paragraph..
API's documented? Whoa! Let's take it 1 step at a time here.. first, let's get the programmers to start paying attention to compiler errors, then we'll move up from there to documentation..
But that's the thing.. a lot of the legitimate internet radio stations (like WolfFM mentioned in the headline) already pay the same royalty fees as any other broadcaster.. This fee is in addition to that, and it's only for internet broadcasters... It's a little late to send a dead tree to your congressman, you'd better call... If you walk away with the distinct feeling of being shafted...
Well, it's not exactly straightforward.. Child pornography isn't always children engaged in sexual acts. Who's to say that pictures of your children in the bathtub (we all know there's atleast one of all of us) in the right hands could be considered child porn?
This *may* have been okay from the beginning if there were never any patents.. But if you got rid of patents after they'd been implemented, it would cause a lot of trouble.
***Insert Bad Metaphor*** Kinda like if they made marijuana legal in the US. In countries where it's legal, it's no big deal because it's always been that way... ***End of Bad Metaphor***
If the source code gets released to the states, they're going to need to hire somebody to interpret it. Most likely, these persons will not be MS advocates.
Sure, they'll probably get these people to sign some sort of a NDA(Non-Disclosure Agreement) but, the code will get out somehow.
That's like trying to prevent people from distributing mp3's or other flavors of copied digital music.. All it takes is 1 good copy, and it's everywhere within a short amount of time. Especially something like MS source code that every script kiddie wants to get a hold of...
What is it with sending a dead tree to washington? Even if such a thing worked, i'm pretty sure not much mail is getting delivered to congressmen with everybody being so scared about it having assthrax on it..
maybe this will help out in the future for satellite imaging to stream video back to earth instead of just pictures that take hours to transmit across space. i think it would be cool to get live video from a satellite orbiting jupiter at any given moment:)
Are 802.11A & 802.11B network hardware compatible? If not, i can see that being a blow to anybody who has already purchased a whole 802.11B network, but wants the 802.11A speed once it is more commonplace... I can see the 802.11A & B cards not being compatible, but could the access points be salvaged?
What if you have a Masters in Computer Science, and you have a car accident and damage your hands to the point of not being able to use a computer. According to this ruling, would they just tell the poor guy that he has to go flip burgers for the rest of his life?
Maybe that explains why my shirt I ordered 2 weeks ago hasn't shipped yet!
It's not "for shipping".. It's for "shipping and handling".. giving them another excuse to squeeze money out of you..
Mod Me down if you must, but ...
:)

ok, i'm done now *steps off soap box*
... Are they going to be required to have an oracle license for each one of the 5000 yr old dead guys that originally created the tablets?

I'm reminded of a quote by George Carlin "Americans are always willing to give up a piece of their freedom for the sense of 'security'"
if you s/pizza restaurant/cube farm, you've effectively described atleast half of EverQuest players.. Does that mean they're all suicidal?
CowboyNeal algorithm? CowboyNeal = SQR(CowboyNeal * CowboyNeal)

size does matter.. but more [permission] isn't always better..
I wonder if Apple will make an "I-Grid" then sue the country of India for copyright infringement...

I'm not sure if i'd want to know how many strip joints my money has been in before it gets to me!
