I agree. I read that and thought "Really!? These people have nothing better to do?" I have to call MI UIA on Wednesday. First time I've been unemployed since 1981 and "we're" worried about silent cell phone cameras
The 1 merger I actually WANTED. The killer part is that by combining they could have eliminated redundant channels on the sats and added local channels. I was looking forward to getting my local channels on Dish because Directv already has them. When the Cable CO wanted more bandwidth it strung up new cable. How much does that cost? Dish or direct? How much does it cost to lauch a rocket?
I'd like to know why the Navy needed a contractor to do this. Seems to me the CNO could have come with a proclamation "Fix the Navy infrastructure!" to the military and civilians already there. No, it's easier to hire someone, fire us, and wash your hands. What's next? CNN Breaking News: "The CNO announces he's contracting out the entire Navy. 'What the hell' he says, EDS worked out so well..."
So Wisconsin decides to 'sell' its future tobacco payments in order to fix a $1 billion budget deficit, insuring that when these people DO wind up with tobacco related health problems, my taxes will go up to cover their expenses. I pay anyway
Okay, I'd forgotten about that. But am I mistaken in remembering that most VCR's and TV's will work with the U.S. and European standards at the flick of a switch? I thought they could...
No, they don't. I don't know if I've ever seen a multi-system TV or VCR for sale in the US. The last time I was in Germany I bought a TV and VCR that are multi-voltage (90-240), multi-system (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) I don't think you could convince most americans to buy these because they cost WAY more. I figure someday I'll go back to Germany and I'll have my video gear!
Something that's been bugging the crap out of me-Time Warner's radio commercials in the Milwaukee area center on Video and MP3 downloads and how amazingly fast they are with cable. Meanwhile they are trying to stop their subscribers from doing that and at the same time they're in DC whinning about these same people. What happened to truth in advertising? (rhetorical)
And probably won't. The oil industry needs to look ahead and start working, seriously, on providing alternative energy sources. I don't think they will because larges corps only seem to be concerned with today's profits, who cares about 5-10 years from now. That said, it seems to me that if a visionary in the industry jumped in and built the infrastructure needed to distribute methanol they'd be ahead of everyone else and they could clean up while the others caught up. Natural gas is becoming more commonplace at gas stations around me because local/federal governments require it for their vehicles. Maybe a little arm twisting....

"I oh-so-clearly remember last summer as I was driving down the road listening to what used to be a good station here in Chicago, WXRT, but has now gone to corporate programming hell (and still it's about the best station in the city)."
I wholeheatedly agree, it has gone down hill. CBS bought them about 6 or 7 years ago and every day they seem to play more and more 'pop'(NOT Iggy) music. I gotta say though, I'm old (heading out of the target group) I've lived all over, and there's still no other radio station that I can tolerate for 8-10 hours/day
THEN and THAN, 2 different words, 2 different meanings.
And don't forget the UNmarked jumpers/dipswitches on virtually ever card in your machine. Motherboards didn't have IDE/Floppy/Serial/Parallel on board. 10+ years ago new drivers? software patches? Unheard of. You bought a game and it crashed-too bad.
1. download shows from newsgroup 2. convert to.mpg 3. burn to CD as VCD or SVCD 4. watch on DVD player in living room
There's no 'watch them on little monitor' involved and the conversion tools are free, as in no charge. THAT, I think, is what the RIAA and MPAA are having a problem with.
I would think the law governing prices as marked in a store would follow to a website. If a clerk mismarks a product and you buy it, they can't (legally) chase you down and make you either a) give it back, or b) pay more for it. It seems to me that if his credit card was charged then the deal was done disclaimer or not. (It doesn't help them that, in my eyes, the have THE worst help I have ever dealt with in my life) "Not my department" "I'm going on break now" "No you can't have the floor model or a raincheck, come back in 2 days and we'll have more" And so on
I love Blizzard's games but I can't STAND battle.net. Too many jerks. I had a server setup for a while where my nephews (away at school) and I could play without messing with battle.net. WE all have legal copies BLIZZARD.
I'd like to add some recent history to your timeline and hopefully shed some light on what happened
For months there was absolutely no news from Oracle as to what their plan was for OOo. (fact) They saw what was happening to other Sun projects and forked it. (my opinion)
http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2010/09/28/243059/OpenOffice.org-claims-independence-from-Oracle.htm
2 weeks later, Oracle came out and said "Heck no, we love OOo and will continue to develop it"

So, there you go. I'd have done the same thing TDF did. I can't sit next to the phone forever
I'm sure this thing will be completely bullet proof security wise.

100% of music downloads were illegal. Sounds like the RIAA is making progress
Are these the guys eating the steakhouse burgers? "You either find a planet capable of supporting life or you don't. Assisted pffft"
1000 hours worth of music costs more than the car. Dealerships should charge for the music and give the car away

Good call. I was scanning the comments to see whether someone realized that. That, at least in my opinion, WOULD make it an international issue.

It's Hollywood's version of the EULA. "Press Power Button On Your Remote To Accept This Agreement"
