I guess you're not a pilot. Every time given to pilots (military, commercial and civil) in briefings, weather charts, NOTAMs, etc are in "ZULU" aka UTC.
My message on my old machine was actually the same recording you get from an out of service number.
I made sure to tell my friends to wait for the beep after the message. Hardly ever a wrong number:)
If you knew anything about audio compression, you'd understand that above that, you should be using MP2.
Considering the Aiwa unit doens't support MP2, that'd be kinda hard, wouldn't it?
I'm using my hearing and my backside to tell you MP3s at less than 320k do not have the same sonic quality as an original CD.
As an example:
Lets say I break out my IASCA 99 Test CD, track 20, "killer Quad Megamix". I have a cd with this encoded in 56k, 128k, 192k and 320k. Even the 320k L+R stereo come no where near the original cd. (Joint Stereo at any level loses bass in a mono sub system)
others with the same issue: Bass 305- "the Science of sound", Queensryche "Silent Lucidity" (listen to the sound of the guitar strings as his fingers move along them.), Tech Master PEB "Count by Numbers", "Bassgasm". Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon", Etc....
Bass is neither clean nor transient. Highs are muddy and mids are muffled. This could very well be the fault of the encoders (Blade's enc and MusicMatch), or the player.
Keep in mind this is not even a high end car audio system. this is in my daily driver (approx $1000-1200, 20hrs worth of work).
What I'm saying here is I'd rather burn a copy of my original to take with me than listen to mp3s for listening enjoyment.

I have one of the first AIWA CD-MP3 players sold in the US. I have given up on playing MP3's on it for anything other than a long drive where I want background music.
For any decent car audio system, you must have 320k MP3s, not recorded in Joint Stereo (some of the windows apps use this by default). Even this is marginal at best. I will copy my CDs to use with the CD-MP3 unit, but literally can not stand the Napsterised songs. I'm not sure if the Empeg unit would have helped out much with this, as I do not know the quality of the DA components used in either system.
Next time I'll go with the Alpine AI system with 4 10 disk changers, or maybe a kenwood or JVC multi-disk changer.
but if you're like my parents, the computer may be on, it may actually be in use; But the email app isn't running and isn't set to check mail automatically.
This means:
sending an email to a person may not reach them (if you cut off their access)
They may not get the mail for several hours/days if they don't check their mail regularly

you know, "make-your-own Fiber Optics line"? =D
Buy two 100mbit fiber optic transceivers from Ebay, along with several (feet,km,miles) of fiber, PVC pipe to run it in. Go to your local city gov't, get permits to run the fiber and pipe. Install all the above, connect ethernet to the transceivers. You're set!
My plan was to do this with a neighbor over 360ft from me to give him internet access, but we went with 900mhz wireless instead.
I have USQwest's Choicetv and online service ( VDSL).
I received this email from qwest.net (sorry about the formatting)
From: gsp-change@qwest.net
To: gsp-change@qwest.net
Subject: Billing Changes
Status: U
X-UIDL: 996746157.89745.xxxxxxxx.xxxx.uswest.net
This is an informational notice only. There is no change in your
total Qwest.net charges. Please do not respond to this e-mail.
Effective August 2, 2001 your Global Service Provider will change from
T-NETIX to Touch.
Currently T-NETIX carries all your Internet traffic across the LATA.
You may continue to see
T-NETIX on your billing until all our records are corrected, estimated
time to complete the conversion is January 2002.
The Global Service Provider charge is separate from your Qwest.net
service. However, the combined Qwest.net and Touch America charges
continue to be the amount you are currently being billed for you
Internet service.
Should you have questions about this notice, or about anything else
regarding your Qwest.net billing, please do not respond to this
e-mail, contact your account manager or the Business Office:
by calling:
xxx-xxx-xxxx
I couldn't make heads nor tails of it, even after calling Qwest's billing and help desk
Then I found this disclaimer:
Qwest cannot provide interLATA long distance service originating, interLATA 8XX service terminating; or interLATA private line or data circuits with either end in the states of AZ, CO, ID, IA, MN, MT, NE, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, and WY. Qwest provides Internet services in these states in conjunction with a separately billed, required Global Service Provider (GSP).
After the USW/Qwest merger, they were forced to sell off certain services to not be in violation of the Sherman Act. They sold their dialups to MSN, and are outsourcing their DSL in areas where they are the major LATA carrier.
I have NO PROBLEM getting TiVo to do all these incredibly bizarre things it was never meant to do (like Caller ID, video extraction, or asking me if it should call for chinese takeout).
I'll have an order of whoflungdung, charpet on a stick, and my girlfriend will have an order of Cream of someyoungguy.

Having been an intern in the broadcast industry when I was younger.....
This is almost as bad as making radio stations submit a playlist to the RIAA in order to keep from getting sued.
You're not too far off. Radio station "Program directors" have great pressure thrust upon them to play certain songs. It's not free for them to choose what songs they want to play from the records they recieve.
The record companies are very much in bed with the owners of the stations. The PD's are told what Genre to play from the owners (Obviously), and if they want to recieve promotional items from the Record companies, damn well better play the singles being pushed at them.
In the time frame I worked at the now defunct radio station, the repeat time for Top 40 music was an Hour and seven minutes . We could give callers an approximate time the song they wanted to hear would be played again. (not officially mind you, but "listen in about 40 minutes" type of response.
The Queue was made up of 90% "station mandated" airplay, 5% requests, 5% DJ choice. The DJ had the choice to play songs in any order he chose, as long as the same song was an hour apart.
To me the RIAA is pulling the same thing with Launch.com, they don't want to over saturate the "airwaves" with the same artist or song too much for fear of losing future revenue. Just think, how many artists have more than two singles on the Top 100 at the same time? How many of those songs were released the same week? Very Few. They can prolong an artist by draggin out the releases from an albulm 5-6 weeks apart.
Ok, enough ranting from me, no back to you're regularly scheduled consiracy theory.
Watch "Grease" (the movie). In one Diner scene the Coca-Cola logo on the menu board in the background is digitally removed. I remember that from back in the 80's.
Working in the Health care field that disclaimer is Required to be attached to all fax/mail documents. We don't email documents (yet), so it's not on the outgoing email yet.
? How did not being able to access their site (i.e. download Flash) affect your business, or productivity?
IF I was working for a large design studio ( on a project, on a deadline) and I happened to need the latest Flash Animation patch, or needed Tech support, this could very well cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Idle people at any company cost money.
Please tell my dad he need to buy a new car because his '56 Porsche 356 coupe breaks down once in a while. Or maybe he needs to drop the 70 Chevelle 454ss and buy a Kia because the Chevelle needs it's valves adjusted every 3-4000 miles.
The analogy you need to equate this to Microsoft is: You lease a car for 3 years. at the end of three years they tell you you can re-lease it for another 3 years, or for $XXX.XX more, you can get the newer model, but you are can't buy it outright. If you decide not to re-lease the car, you are free to walk away (literally).
my toaster is a disposable item. it has very few (if any) serviceable part. they design it this way. if I had to re-load the toasting controls on my toaster as I have to reload my OS, then there would be some backlash.
So I can ask WWMHD?

Actually it was an Amiga. They used them with Gen Locks or video toasters to overlay the video.
They identified the guy by comparing the photo to Digitized Drivers license photos. Weather this was by the software or hand is unknown.

hmm, isn't this option there under Search?
One Problem with that (as pointed out by the Phoenix Fire Department Chief):
Most of those detectors are set to trip the Traffic light to RED in all directions.
Kinda self defeating (for the cheater) if you ask me.
