What is the point of this article? The best solution is always to evaluate what is the best solution for each particular need. It is not proper to say that Linux or W2K or Mac OSX will be the best for anything everytime.

Hmm, where did you go to school? I assume that you studied computer science or some form of computer education? There are many other IT places around Indy including big names like Eli Lilly (has a big IT department in it that pays really well), Thompson Electronics, Echilent Technologies (I think I spelled it correctly), and Progeny Linux.
Though not quite in the language you used, I completely agree with you. But this is a real problem in a modern global economy. As a boss, do you look at only what is good for your company in the short-term or do you look long-term at company profits and the good of America as a nation? The IT industry is such a fast paced industry that it's not used to looking down the road long-term. I'm not too worried though...if I can't find a good IT job at any time, I'd rather take that time to innovate and start my own company than sit back and worry.
I may be a little bitter in that I stupidly live in the worst state for IT, Indiana.
The state might be bad in general, but not Indianapolis. It happens to be a fantastic white-collar IT place. I live in Carmel, IN which is the 5th richest area in the nation...you tell me that that won't make for a good IT area. Milwaukee was a bad place for IT work because it is still mainly a blue-collar area. Try getting decent IT work there once, you'll appreciate Indiana.

Channel all of that inventiveness, sexual frustration and technical knowhow into a love of mayhem. Theodore Kaczynski was a great terrorist and an outstanding nerd - you think your case mod is l33t - did you make your own SCREWS? If only half a dozen people concocted technically feasible plans to kill random record company executives through the mail, it would do wonders for our cause.
Ok, you are absolutely sick. Ted Kaczynski is where he belongs, in jail. Do you know why? It's because he was an insane, serial killer. He may have started off with a just-cause...but killing people just makes the cause go to/dev/null. Absolutely unbelieveable.
I completely agree about the killing thing, well said. Now to the parent post: to ignore someone's opinion (preachers in this case) is dictator-like and ignorant. Just because you obviously don't believe that preachers have anything good to say doesn't mean they're wrong. You say preachers are just on a power trip...that shows what you know about churches (I don't however doubt there are some that are on power trips but you made a rash generalization). I'm going to assume based off of your post that you're an evolutionist. What if I told you that I'm not at all (macroevolution that is) and I believe I can easily disprove it? Therefore I believe in a deity that created this world. Therefore using a fetus for experimentation, etc...is immoral. Am I all of a sudden on a power trip? I think not, it's just my beliefs. Watch some Star Trek...even as an evolutionist you could learn a lot from that show about life.
I completely agree! You couldn't have said it any better. Open source software, in this case the linux kernel, cannot be controlled by any one source. So even if IBM had less than pure motivation, they linux kernel would evolve around the problem and move on...simple as that. Though IBM does have great exerience in *NIX OSes...so I say let's except this help with open arms.
There is a option that you can check on one of the menus that automatically moves mail you delete to the trash. It's there, I don't remember where but look for it...I use it. That thing annoyed me too until I noticed the option.
Porn is pretty disgusting if you ask me. Though you're probably not too far off by saying porn does drive the hard disk industry. Where else can you find as many videos and pictures that take up a ton of space?
I had an Abit motherboard for the first generation Athlon chips. I went through 4 of these things! Abit now refuses to do anything for me anymore. Everytime it went bad it was because the capacitors surrounding the main processor would blow...everytime about 6 months after I got a new one. I could almost predict it. I am now using an MSI motherboard and would never again get an Abit...not just because of the bad product but because their website and customer service sucks.
Yes, that's what I did too. I have Road Runner cable service and I even saved money on the initial fee. The guy just hooked up the proper coax cables and verified the connection in the room where the cable modem would hook up. However, if you opt for this self-installation of the software the guy doesn't verify that the service runs correctly or anything - at least he/she doesn't have to. The guy who installed my service was very nice and actually waited for me to install the software and hook the cable modem up to my computer and left after I told him that it worked well. Road Runner is also a very fast and stable cable modem service in my area and would totally recommend it to anyone.
I was informed by the creator of that password that it was 12 characters long and was not based on any single word in the dictionary. It was a very strong password and he is very protective of the password too.
I realize this but typically if something is supported in GTK, then it's "tied" to Gnome in some way or another. I know GTK != Gnome but GTK ~= Gnome when compared to anything else like QT for example.
Though I completely agree with you and wouldn't put it past Microsoft to do such a thing...since it is in their best interest as a single company...I say it's bologne that it's the end of the hobbyist. It's almost always the independent hobbyist (or academic researcher independent of some company) that comes up with the life changing new technologies. Even if MS does such a drastic and backwards thing, there are people who are independent hobbyists that are electrical, computer and every other kind of engineer/technology specialist. These people know how to make computers and generally these are the people who use software like Linux. They will just create an alternative "existence" to whatever MS pulls. There is always an alternative, even to the extreme point of oppressive governments.
Well, if you're so scientific then you must no that you used the word myth wrong. Myth truly means something that isn't false but can't be proven true. It does not mean something that is completely false as you've used it in this case. If you check out any religious studies definition of myth at any private or state-run university, you will see that you spoke in error. And where is your evidence that you can't prove God exists using science? You speak with some loud terms there but your evidence is pretty non-existent.
Exciting huh, maybe for you and your office mate. So you guys are excited about "proving" that you originate from monkeys and those monkeys came from rocks...sounds exciting to me too. I don't know what would be so exciting to discover that we're absolutely alone in this universe and when you die your life is meaningless because that's it...you're dead!

Well said, thank you. :)

Too bad there is no such device that could speed time up and prove once and for all that macro evolution really occurs or not.

Why would you even joke of such a thing!? I can't believe you just said that.

IBM seems to have a good track record in hard drives. This is pretty amazing stuff. It is very refreshing to see a large company innovating.

This is not true about KDE being the first to add support for this extension. GTK v2.1 has had support for this already.

lol, that's rediculous...XP a real OS...good one!
lol! An excellent observation. ;)
We had AMD Hammer 64 bit processor support before Windows did.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I top VP in any company is going to have somewhat good grammar and this letter reads like a 12 year old wrote it.
