They've mislead SOOOO many people with their bogus stories. I HIGHLY doubt anything they said in the article is true, or if it is, they sure as hell just heard it from rumors or unconfirmed reports. I'd take this article with a HUGE grain of salt. Story after story they "broke" has proven to be just based off of rumors or have been very misleading. I can't believe Slashdot would even post anything from somewhere as unreliable as NN.

So to sum it up, I wouldn't trust anything you read in the article, especially since none of the major gaming sites have had anything new on the X-Box at all.

But odds are the PS2 will be the most expensive.

For instance, in this story, it's the basic first post crap, with some other stuff thrown in, and then boom, 3 straight posts commenting on the exact same thing (misleading headline). It happens in a lot of other articles too, where something might be factually wrong with the article, but no one makes any comments until about post 50, and then you get about 3 straight posts on it. It's sorta freaky.

The Dolphin is still being released this year (in fact, the full specs are supposed to be released after midnight tonight) so it only only gain a lead in Japan. Using your logic, people would be crazy to only get a CD player. Why not get a $99 playstation and play CD's on that instead? But you don't see that happening because CD players have advantages that the PSX doesn't offer. Hence, I believe the same thing will happen to the PS2. Sure, DVD is a nice addition, but I don't see it wiping out everyone else, or becoming the sole selling point.

#1. What the hell do you want MS to do then (in regards to releasign a player)? You act like them releasing it is the worst thing in the world. What ever happened to the complaint that WMP was Windows and Macintosh only? What about the complaint that WMP was evil because you could only get it on Windows or Macs? Now MS is expanding it and your bitching at them? I don't know about you, but this is the best news I've heard all week. WMP may be a MS product, but a hell of a lot of the sites I visit use it, and it's a pain in the ass not to be able to play it in Linux. I'm over-joyed they're bringing it to Linux. Now if only I could get IE on here......

#2. If Linux grows like its' "supposed" to, how can MS regain the market again? I mean, with WMP and maybe Quicktime coming to Linux, there is even less reason to run Windows. And by the time MS gets a monopoly of streaming audio (assuming it ever gets it), I'd hope that linux users would at least make up 25% of the desktop market. That'd be suicide to drop support then. And how can it crush all the other formats anyway? Windows is still the dominating OS by a huge margin, and if everyone wanted to, they could have already totally switched to WMP. But they haven't, and I don't see how bringing it to Linux will change that.

Some of the conspiracy theory's you guys come up with amaze me. Can you not just believe that MS sees that to expand it's format, it's going to have to support other OS's? Netscape and Real saw that, and they don't get bitched at like MS. Don't you want a big OS orgy, where you can get just about everything for just about every OS? A thought like that sure sounds good to me.

I know at least on Linux it crashes at least a couple of times a day, and is quite buggy. And the bookmark system in Netscape is much more complicated than in IE (as in making a bookmark in IE lets you decide what to call it and where to put when you make it. In Netscape you have to bookmark it, then go and edit it in a badly designed bookmark management system dialogue. Not even Mozilla fixes that which really disappoints me). And IE supports more HTML, even if it is "IE-only" tags and options, it still looks better and performs better than Netcape. IE also just looks cleaner and less clunky. Finally IE is faster in Windows than Netscape. So if Netscape can pull of a better browser, maybe they can get back their market share. Mozilla is in the right direction, but since it's in pre-release, I can't say which is better.
